I have been sitting on this for years as well. I have not played The Evil Within 2 myself but I have watched a full playthrough of it when it came out, and I have to say, sure, Stefano is an interesting character. Sort of charismatic, twisted with a dash of PTSD, his art is eerily beautiful and I can appreciate it. He has an aesthetic and I see it. But...
His ass will never be Ruvik.
Stefano lost an eye while taking a photo during a war and captured a person's exact moment of death and became obsessed with doing it again... The exact moment of death became his muse.
Excuse me? I feel for you dude and I'm not one to dilute people's traumas but...
Ruvik set the stage and left pretty huge shoes to fill even though he never fuckin wore any.
Oh you lost an eye? Eh, fuck you.
Ruvik was HORRIFICALLY burned as a child, he lost the one person he deeply cared for and who cared for him, he was then locked in a basement for 10 years (at the age of 10) by his own father who told his wife that her son was dead, he killed his parents after he was finally able to escape(he wanted revenge but from the looks of it he was pretty shaken about it in the memory he shared), he worked hard to build a machine with the intention of seeing his sister within his memories again, and then got all his research stolen by someone who was "kind" to him as a child. Yeah, Jimenez can suck a dick and choke.
Then a shady company called MOBIUS came in, held him down, stripped him of his body piece by piece, and then used his brain as it's fucking core. Now he's literally trapped within his own warped and tortured mind with no way to escape as he no longer has a physical form. Ruvik was fucked all the way over in every way. How Ruvik is today makes a lot of fuckin sense to me.
Someone: Ruvik is like...fucked up...
Me: Yeah, can ya really blame though?
Stefano, you are a nifty character, your art can be very stunning, I like it, but sit your ass down.
Not having Ruvik at all in the second game is just another dirty thing to happen to him.
And I STAN his fucking ass.
Ruvik wanted to use Lesie, the innocent traumatized bean as an escape route.
But when I really paid attention to what happened to him... My heart bleeds for him now. I don't forgive the things he's done but I can at least understand him.
I'm sorry Stefano, but your ass will NEVER be Ruvik.
Plus, The Evil Within 2 is like: My name is Stefano, I lost an eye, I am now a tortured soul, I shall kill people and then turn them into beautiful art in a boring MOBIUS made town called Union.
The first Evil Within? Getting to walk around Ruvik's fucked, warped, and twisted mind? Watching his past unfold before us as he shares his memories and what happened to him with us? Getting to see his fucking origins while he truly fucked with us and controled our surrounds because we are literally in his fucking mind where he can do literally anything?
That is pretty fucking dope.
Ruvik made a hell of an impression.
Stefano barely made a blip.
I'm not saying Stefano is a bad character, I'm just saying no one can top Ruvik Victoriano.
Ruvik is an irreplaceable force.
