The only sound he managed to make was a brief chuckle, somehow hoping it would aid him with the lie he was prepared to present. "You could say the lack of sleep is kicking my ass, right?" Failed humor often had the young man kicking himself repeatedly, but he nonchalantly shrugged his slumped shoulders and waved off her question, "Always able to get a sandwich from the bodega on Glenmore." Not that it was enough to keep Jimmy from biting his tongue from spewing out garbage.

Isabelle was right. He would've known how she was if he'd been a good friend and wasn't absent. His expression softened as his gaze fell to the floor beneath his feet, as though he were reduced to a child found guilty. Two choices; lie or tell her the truth and risk so much? "Tell you what?" He was barely able to disguise his nervous tone, knowing he was on the spotlight. He could face monsters and mayhem every other day of the week, but this? It terrified him.

She smacked his shoulder lightly. “Language!” she huffed with a bit of a laugh, shaking her head. Isabelle could always appreciate a bon mot, even if she disliked the word he had used to deliver his quip. “No, that isn’t real food.” It was surely better than neglecting to eat altogether, but she insisted, “You need a home-cooked meal. When’s the last time you had one of those?" There was a spark of amusement in her eyes, a small smile twisting her lips. "Come with me. I have some leftovers we could share.” Linking her arms with his, Isabelle gently tugged him forward, encouraging him to fall into step with her. 

"Toast goes a long way. I even add in some butter, maybe a little protein with it." Snickered the young man whilst keeping his feet one in front of the other, though still careful not to bump into his friend. She had the lead, in more ways than one and he needed to think quickly or the charade would soon be over. "Ladies first." His other arm stretched outward, showing that he was more than willing to comply, for the most part. "But if we're being honest? It's been a few days. Not really sure.." He shamefully admitted, still displaying a weak smile.

The same smile had fallen into an inquisitive stare, nervousness creeping ever so often. Perhaps a part of him yearned to proclaim the truth to someone he trusted. "I'm...not lying to you." The sting of each lie felt worse than any blow he'd received as his costumed counterpart. Jimmy refused to let anyone else get themselves caught in his web, knowing the consequences and paying the price years ago.
