And it’s time for some new infos (or not so new, for some of them, if you saw reviews from the EA Play) !
These informations are provided by the Game Changers Network. With the other GC who were not at EA Play, I participated in a private livestream about Island Living, where we were able to ask some questions.
I don’t have any exclusive screenshots or footage, but you can have look at these nice pics from the EA Play presentation.
There is 3 neighborhoods, and 14 lots. One of them is a 64x64 lot !
The neighborhoods are Ohan'ali Town (the main island), Lani St. Taz (a more upscale area) and Mua Pel'am (a more natural island).
Sulani’s weather is pretty mild, but with Seasons, you may occasionally get a Tropical Storm.
One of the neighborhood (Mua Pel'am ?) is near a volcano : your sims can’t be crush by falling volcanic debris, but they may catch fire if they try to touch it right after it landed, when it’s still hot. If you beak it, you can collect a special stone.
There is a waterfall where you can shower, catch frogs, and also… woohoo !
There is some new harvestables : coconut, pineapple, taro and kava.
You can buy beach supplies with a vending machine.
Most of the lots are partially in the water. You can’t place pool on these lots.
No lot type is locked. And there is a beach lot type. There is also a new Beach lot type.
Some new lots traits, two available with the Base Game :
Off the Grid trait, you can’t use Electronics and Plumbing objects (with a few exceptions), limited internet but you don’t have to pay bills.
Clothing Optional trait, your sims won’t wear any clothes here. Depending on the lot type, this trait will have different effects. In a bar for example, some sims will be a little more hesitant to remove their clothes (depending on their traits), but can change their mind after some drinks.
There is two other lot trait in this Pack, Oceanic Paradise and Volcanic Activity. We don’t know what the first do, but the second is related to the volcano.
Swimming in the ocean is exclusive to Sulani, but may be added later in other worlds !
Dogs can swim in the ocean too !
Swimming affect the fitness skill. With a higher skill, you unlock new swimming styles, allowing your sims will be able to swim faster, and without losing too much energy. If you swim too long, you might get a cramp or a sudden chill.
You can pee in the water. Eurg.
There is little shallow places in the ocean where toddlers can sit and splash
Two types of boat. a traditional canoe which allow you to fish everywhere, and a jet-ski. With a high enough fitness skill, you can do nice tricks with it.
There is 3 models of float lounger, including a pizza shaped one. You can use them in pools. When your sims is relaxing on the float lounger, it will drift around in the water.
You can interact with the dolphins (their appear in the relationship panel). You can pet them, talk to them, request tricks, give them small fishes to eat. If the relation is high enough, you can also name them.
You may encounter sharks (it’s rare), especially if you move away from the coasts. When they don’t attack you, they give you a Tense moodlet. But they may pull you underwater and cause you to drown.
You can also see Sea Turtles, but can’t interact with them.
You can’t follow your sims when they are diving, but they can come back with pictures of what they saw (similar to the telescope ?).
When your sims return to the beach after swimming, they will walk slowly through the shallow water (like in real life !). They also leave footprints when they walk on the sand.
You can sunbath on float lounger, lounge chair, and beach towel. You can do it in swimwear, or… nude. Your sims tan lines will match the clothing they were wearing (your CAS custom content may need to be updated, I’m sure there will be a Batch fix added quickly in the Sims 4 Studio if necessary !)
You can get a sunburn if you stay under the sun for too long without sunscreen.
Fishing has been updated. You can find brand new fishes, there are fish traps, new options with a high skill, and new fishing spots in all worlds.
The teen part-time jobs from the base game will be available for adults sims too ! This change come with the patch, for everyone.
Your sims (including teens !) can work as lifeguards. There is two other part-time jobs, dive instructor and fisherman, but I can confirm they are available for teen.
If you increase the Conservation Level of Sulani by cleaning your world (for exemple, by working in the new Conservationist career), the island change overtime, and become greener and more lush. There may even be a special sea turtle hatching event !
The Conservationist career is an active career, you can chosse this work with sims outside of Sulani, but the events will take place there. There is two branches : marine biologist and environmental manager.
You can cook five local dishes in the fire pit, there is a vegetarian option. Your sims can also make a special island drink, called Kava, and share it with their friends.
There is a new food stand.
When you visit the island, you may stumble upon different events organized by the locals, like a barbecue, festivals, fishing tournament…
You can also meet Elementals, their are spirits of the island and they’ll react differently depending on your actions in Sulani.
You can turn your sims into mermaids (no more info for now, but look for some special Kelp !). And you can change a mermaid into a basic human sims.
You can create your mersims directly in CAS. They have access to specific skin-tones, eyes, and pointy teeth !
As vampire, you can edit their two forms separately, but you can also link them if you want to keep them similar (except for the tail, of course !).
Children can be mermaids, but it won’t manifest until they are teens.
The Hygiene need is replaced by Hydratation. Swimming in the ocean, taking a bath or a shower, drinking water, fill this need.
When your Mermaids take a bath, they use a special animation, their tail will be visible.
Mermaids have some special abilities : sing lullabies, a unique kind of kiss, seducing sims, the power to summon a hidden threat in the water to attack another sims… Each abilities reduce their hydratation need.
If you have Seasons, your mermaid can summon a thunderstorm.
Some abilities can’t be used if you have a specific trait (Evil mermaids can’t use nice ones).
Everything is beautiful. It’s a very subjective comment, but I wanted to say it ! There is lot of items I think I could use outside of Sulani, that’s great !
We didn’t really saw the Build content, but we had an overview of the Buy catalog : there was 2 single beds and 2 double beds, a new counter, a sink, a bathtub, a wedding arch, and so much more !
A basic lounge chair will be added to the base game, but two models are exclusive to IL. You can carry them in your inventory.
You can also carry your towel with you !
There is a 2x2 glass floor available, it works as the dance-floors from Get Together.
The ladders we saw in the trailer can’t be used to go from one floor to the other.
We also saw a new wall speaker, that plays a new kind of music (new radio station ?)
There is a new ceiling fan, they now have their own category…. with only two items !
Candles have been updated, surely to work when there is no electricity (if you don’t pay your bills or use the Off the Grid trait).
Electronics and Plumbing objects working with the Off the Grid lot trait have a special indication in their description.
Obviously, all of the clothing are perfect for Sulani’s warm weather. But maybe not for your sims living on other worlds (except for their hot weather outfits ?) !
Only a few new hairstyles for male sims, and almost all of them are also for female sims. A bit disappointed, but not really surprised. :/
Two new traits : Child of the Ocean and Child of the Island, but I don’t know what they do yet ! And a new aspiration, in the Location category.
The diapers for toddlers have been updated to include more swatches. It will be part of the next patch, available for everyone !
In case you didn’t notice, there is now a Randomise Traits button available. It comes with the patch too.
