SPARROW.

heavy focus put on the mythical aspect of disney’s interpretation of the golden age of piracy;  please consult the links below for a deeper insight on my take on the character.  major tropes & sources of inspiration are:  age of sail media (black sails, assassin’s creed black flag),  greek mythology,  the odyssey,  melville’s moby dick,  the pirate from sea-bandit to romantic hero,  history is written by the outcasts,  amc’s the terror,  mahmoud darwish’s poetry.

𝙱𝙰𝚂𝙸𝙲𝚂:

FULL NAME: jack teague, though it is best you don’t even try to call him by his father’s last name.

NICKNAMES: jack the sparrow, shortened and widely known as simply ‘jack sparrow’; jackie.

HEIGHT: 5′10′’ - 178 cm.

AGE: 33 during cotbp (b. 1698) though his aging process is quite slowed down.

ZODIAC: sun in gemini, moon in gemini, ascendant in sagittarius.

SPOKEN LANGUAGES: english, conversational spanish and french, few words in japanese and latin. 

𝙿𝙷𝚈𝚂𝙸𝙲𝙰𝙻 𝙲𝙷𝙰𝚁𝙰𝙲𝚃𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚂𝚃𝙸𝙲𝚂:

HAIR COLOR: black.

EYE COLOR: bright jade-green.

SKINTONE: brown.

BODY TYPE: fit, not particularly tall, but slim and graceful; trained from his life at sea.

VOICE: not too deep, rich and playful; measured and soft, but with a mocking edge.

DOMINANT HAND: ambidextrous.

POSTURE: fluid, kind of eccentric, he gesticulates even while walking.

SCARS:  two sickle scars under his left eye, right above his cheekbone; the ‘p’ mark burned into his forearm by cutler beckett; two bullet scars in the middle of his chest; various other scars from his many adventures.

TATTOOS: jack is extensively inked; his brand is the sparrow flying across a setting sun tattooed on his forearm, right above the ‘p’ mark. then the has a 15th century poem titled ‘desiderata’ tattooed across his back, along with many other symbols covering his shoulders, torso and thighs. one day i will list them all.

PLACE OF BIRTH: edward teague’s ship, in the middle of a typhoon in the indian ocean.

OCCUPATION:  pirate & outlaw, briefly privateer.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: despite his intense on-and-off love story with esmeralda, he’s single and intends to remain that way.

FINANCIAL STATUS: comes from lower class, now technically wealthy since what he and his crew need is raided from other ships or traded by selling stolen treasures. 

CRIMINAL RECORD: piracy and everything connected with it (theft, murder etc), has freed slaves which was considered a crime.

HOBBIES TO PASS TIME: reading, drinking, swimming, gambling, plus he likes to climb to the top of the mainmast to look at the sea, it helps him think.

MENTAL ILLNESSES: mild ptsd from his time in the locker.

PHOBIAS: none.

SELF-CONFIDENCE LEVEL: even if it's not always high, it's always boastful.

  RAVKAN WATERS HAD FOAMED AT THE SHIP’S TAIL,  then disappeared from sight or reach of spyglass; and as the night chases all the steel-grey lights from behind the clouds, the sea becomes a borderless expanse, ink-black. Most men are uncomfortably rolling in their hammocks, either drunk to sleep or trying to get there. Sparrow, too, finds in the biting chill a powerful stimulant. His Fjerdan pelt is too loosely worn to keep him warm, but not enough let him freeze to death. The girl is lightly dressed, too, but looks far less bothered. Maybe she keeps it to herself like everything else: her name, her past. Maybe it’s just because she’s Ravkan.

There’s a restlessness at the hinges on Jack’s muscles. He’s vibrating with a fight or flight instinct, perhaps more flight than fight, but now even his instincts, seldom aligned with a better judgment often not listened to, tell him it would be useless. And almost too readily, he accepts it. The sea he knows, yes, and all its horrors —  but the earth too has evils to unveil. Maybe the Count is one of them. 

ON SLEEP.

Name:    Jack Sparrow.

Residence:  He has no fixed residence, but if a ship can be considered such, then the Black Pearl is his “home”. Has dwelt in Shipwreck cove when he was younger, but he’s reluctant to go back there.

Type of bed:   On the Pearl, his bed is king-sized and takes almost half of the space in his cabin. Granted he’s slept in hammocks, on sand, on rocks, that is not really the problem. It’s just an added comfort. 

Number of blankets: One, but rarely he covers himself with it.

Number of pillows:   Four, but he uses either one or none. 

Type of clothing:   Either fully clothed, if he goes to bed particularly drunk and / or feeling too lazy to strip, or fully naked, hardly ever in-between. Most times he will sleep naked because the Caribbean climate is hot and sticky and Jack likes the cooling sensation of a draft of wind over his bare, sweaty skin. 

Do they sleep with company?  Sometimes, but not always. Whenever the Pearl docks he often finds himself some company to spend the night with, but he doesn’t always allow them to stay.

Do they sleep better with company?  Not really, no. He tends to be more vigilant when sharing his private spaces with complete strangers, and while he regularly and enthusiastically does one-night stands, he sleeps less serenely. Around people he knows well, he becomes almost too relaxed and trusting.

Does it matter where they sleep?  As stated above, Jack likes comfort (not necessarily luxury) but he’s definitely used to the lack of it. He’s slept anywhere: in a cell, on rocks, on the coarse sand with shallow waters soaking his clothes, on wooden floorboards. Obviously, he prefers his bed to everything previously mentioned.

What do they do if they cannot fall asleep?   Jack doesn’t have trouble falling asleep, but if it happens, it’s either because he’s feeling agitated or it’s too hot or he just isn’t tired enough. He’ll take a stroll on the deck and enjoy the night breeze, or revise the course, read a book, drink himself to sleep, or have sex lmao.

Frequent dreams / nightmares:   Mid-Dead man's chest, due to Davy Jones' mark, he had the recurring dream where he got dragged underwater by some invisible force and had to struggle until he drowned.

Deep slumber or naps: Depends on how tired he is. Typically he prefers deep slumber because he's fairly active during the day, but he doesn't mind napping if he's feeling it.

When do they sleep? At night, usually.

What could wake them up: Loud noises, insistently touching / shaking him, feeling too hot or sweaty, a nightmare. If he's feeling agitated or he's on guard, the slightest movement could wake him up.
