| tags: Very fluffy, Jack and Reader are married, established relationship, my first proper blurb, beta read
It had been a long week. You had been extremely busy with work, had little to no time for yourself, or even with Jack. You were drained, and needed something to bring you back to your proper self.
At the end of the week, you had decided you needed a night out. Not anything crazy, but just some casual drinking with some friends.
Jack was covering the day shift, still in the Pitt as you texted him and let him know that you were going out for drinks.
Jack had replied quickly, telling you to have fun and that he loves you before he slipped back into the Pitt to (freak out about you going out drinking without him) take care of the rest of handoff before heading home.
You met your friends at the bar, sitting around the table and ordering your first round of drinks. One after another, the drinks kept coming. It was happy hour, why not? You were having fun, catching up and letting loose.
After about three rounds, you were properly tipsy, on the verge of drunk. The vibe was coming down a bit, everyone growing tired after the few hours you’d been out. You looked around, a sudden realization hitting you.
“Guys. Who’s driving us home?” A beat of silence came over the group, all of you realizing a designated driver was never established.
Fits of giggles erupted your group before all of you pulled out your phones, trying to figure out a ride home. You, of course, texted Jack.
“babe. baby. jackie desrest.” You typed, slight typos due to your inebriation.
“Jackie dearest? That’s a new one.” Jack replied, “You okay?”
“:( drunk with no ride home :(“
“No problem, honey. I’m on my way ❤️”
With your ride figured out, you bid farewell to your group of friends, nearly tipping over as you tried to hug everyone goodbye before slipping out into the cold evening.
After about 10 minutes, you saw the familiar black pick up truck pulling into the parking lot. You stood up from the curb, waving and smiling dramatically as if Jack didn’t already spot you the second he pulled in.
He parked near the front, getting out as he watched you almost trip over yourself trying to skip over to him.
“Careful, honey.” He chuckled lowly, gently grabbing your hands and opening the passenger door for you.
“Sorry, I just missed you.” You giggled, smiling at him as you hopped up into the seat. He closed the door behind you, leaning on the window as he smiled softly at you.
“I missed you too, baby. You have fun?” Jack asked, his voice low and tired from just recently getting off shift.
“Soo much fun!” You drawled, holding onto his arms as your words slurred. “We were talking and laughing and they were playing such good music!”
Jack listened intently, nodding his head with an amused smile. “Yeah? You look good tonight, I love this dress on you.”
“You like it?” You squealed, smiling widely as you leaned back to show it off. He laughed softly again and nodded, moving to kiss your cheek. “I love it.”
As he kissed your cheek, you gasped and grabbed his hands again, a soft frown on your face now. “Baby, I was a bad wife.”
His eyebrows pulled down, furrowing as he tilted his head with concern. “A bad wife? What did you do?”
“I didn’t get groceries today and I didn’t do anything I wanted to do..” You frowned, trailing off at the end as Jack’s smile returned and he leaned in to peck your lips.
You still frowned, leaning your head on his arms and closing your eyes. “I don’t get out a lot! I was too excited.”
He stopped you gently, brushing your hair behind your ear. “It’s alright, you had fun. You had fun, right?”
You nodded, opening your eyes up at him again. “Then, that’s all that matters, okay? We can just get some takeout tonight, I’ll take care of it.” He raised his eyebrows at you, making sure you were listening.
You lifted your head again quickly, smiling again. “Mm, thank you, baby. I had so much fun! Maybe too much fun, we were all talking a lot and then Lilly was like ‘we should get shots!’ and we were like ‘fuck yes!’ and then we even got desert afterwards.” You rambled, giggling at yourself.
The whole time you rambled, Jack just stared at you with affection, clinging on to every word you said. When your rambling slowed to a stop, he nodded and kissed your forehead.
“I’m so glad you had fun. You needed it.” He then grabbed your hands, rubbing your knuckles “How about I get you home, we order some chinese, and take a nice bath together, hm?”
Your eyes practically lit up, smiling widely and nodding eagerly. “Yes, please! I missed you.” You smiled, pecking his lips again.
Jack chuckled softly, walking back around the truck to get into the drivers seat. His large hand rested on your thigh the whole way home, still listening to your rambles about your night. He smiled to himself the whole time, just excited to see you being yourself again after your hard week.
