Okay. First attempt at making Obi-goa’uld from “A Star to Steer By”, a brilliant Star Wars/Stargate SG1 crossover by dogmatix and norcumi http://archiveofourown.org/works/3514793?view_full_work=true

Number of things I think should be changed. He might need to be a bit longer for one. Somehow his length shrunk after I’d sewn the pieces together. Whoops.

I thought I'd share a little bit about the other AU I keep mentioning. It all started last year when I asked @artemisdesari-blog, "Would anything have changed if Obi-Wan was female?"

Artemisdesari's response: "I'm not completely convinced Yoda would have chosen Obi-Wan for his fix Qui-Gon crusade if Obi had been a girl. I think he would have been far more aware of the danger he would be putting her on because (for a number of reasons) cultures seem to be more aware of the danger to girls than they do to boys and less eager to put them in that position. It would be an interesting thing to explore, and I have seen it done. Thought provoking too since the vast majority if Jedi we see are male presenting."

The conclusion was that Cin Drallig would have taken Obi-Wan on as his padawan and she would have been much happier and healthier. It then veered into a lot of silly ideas because Obi-Wan had a more stable master and support system. This allowed for a more lighthearted AU where Obi-Wan and everyone, really, has a better life. Thus the Silly AU was born.

for once, ‘sorry and thank you’ is a pretty straightforward translation! 对不起 duibuqi or 对不住 duibuzhu (as is sometimes said in the show) really does mean “I’m sorry” – if you want to get a little more into the weeds of related meanings, it also means “to let someone down” in the sense that someone has set the bar of friendship/respect/sacrifice at a certain level, and you can’t match it, so it’s a mix of I’m sorry and I’ve let you down with an apologetic cast to it

谢谢你 xiexieni truly doesn’t have any depths to probe; it’s just ‘thank you’

it’s certainly one of the most iconic/thematic lines of the show for good reason, though, because much of the central conflict in The Untamed is preoccupied with the question of how to be true to yourself (问心无愧 wenxinwukui / to have a clear conscience) without losing track of one’s accountability to others. The first time “sorry and thank you” really comes up in this show (I think; I’ve only actually seen this show once) is when the Wen Remnants bid farewell to Wei Wuxian and go to turn themselves in at Koi Tower; Wen Qing says “I’m sorry,” both for paralyzing Wei Wuxian and for rendering all of his sacrifice (fighting for them against the rest of the world, going into voluntary exile, destroying his reputation thoroughly, estranging himself from his family to save hers) pretty, uh, meaningless. She also says “thank you,” to acknowledge everything he’s done for them. There’s no way this scene can happen without either “sorry” or “thank you” – neither one encapsulates their feelings completely. “Sorry and thank you,” I feel like really gets at the complexity of 江湖恩怨 jianghuenyuan – the complicated interweaving of kindness and resentment, favor and vengeance in the jianghu world

Goodbye 2024, Hello There 2025! 🥳🎉🌟

Those were some busy 12 months:

Worked on a LOT of fun and diverse freelance jobs

Moved to a new city

Met a ton of lovely people at conventions and attended FMX Conference or the first time (eternal thanks to Robert Hranitzky), what a blast!

Got to wear some amazing new cosplays crafted by @sekuteskacosplay 💙

And yes, also made progress on Tukk Tales...

...although not as much as I had hoped. Finding the spare time to work on such an elaborate no-budget personal project can be tricky...

BUT! I'm as committed and motivated as ever and 2025 is the year I want to take some bolder steps to allow myself to focus more on Tukk Tales, even if it means scaling back on freelance work. I'm in the middle of making some exciting plans and can't wait to share updates with you soon! 😁

Most natural plant-based oils may be used as lube, though they're messier and not as good as modern water-based or silicone-based lube. Just remember that oils aren't good with latex — but your knights probably aren't using latex condoms, anyway.

Historically, a common sword oil was linseed oil, which is natural, plant-based, and food-safe. So, again, a fine choice.

Other historical options include other plant- or vegetable-based oils, which are probably fine. Some also used animal oils though, which is not fine and can lead to infections. Avoid that shit 🙅

For traditional Japanese swords, choji oil was used, which is made from cloves. High concentrations of clove oil can be toxic, so you HAVE to dilute that shit — 1% concentration or less. Once diluted though, clove oil is considered safe and can be used to treat and soothe anal injuries. It also has a numbing effect that could help with rough anal sex, but your ass would hurt like a bitch after the effect wears off.

A lot of modern sword oil is just mineral oil, which, while not plant-based, is food-safe and is actually recommended for use in enemas because it's safe and long-lasting. So while it's not great for vaginal use because it can irritate the skin there, it can be pretty well-suited for anal use.

There are a few modern sword oils made from machine oil and motor oil. Those should not go in any orifice whatsoever 🙅 Always check the label before using improvised lube.

if petroleum jelly and crisco are both notable modern improvised lubes from before the lube industry took off, and crisco was celebrated for being plant-based unlike vaseline and therefore healthier to shove up your ass, why would rapeseed or olive oils be A Huge Problem????

answer is, probably wouldn't. op has done a solid job laying out most reasons using A Random Oil is strongly advised against in a context where you can buy sex lube; disturbing the vaginal flora and more difficult laundry are up there, and Condom Issues top the list. and yeah modern 'random oils' are often petroleum products, which you want to be very careful about which ones you apply to your body and how.

list mostly does not include 'these don't work' or 'these are somehow hazardous in themselves.'

there is an element of lube industry propaganda circulating, i think, and a lot of people receiving and passing on advice about what is the ideal set of choices for them to make personally without any real interrogation of why, and then pouncing on deviations from this received norm even outside their own context. not that there aren't also some truly alarming improvised lube ideas out there lmao.

do want to advise that linseed oil is probably low on the list of plant-based utility oils to use for this purpose, even though it's not likely to harm you directly, for a weird reason!

it's notable for its volatility, in the sense of it has a lot of components that like to evaporate and that oxidize really dramatically. this makes it valuable for uses like paint and varnish, but also means that if you get careless with it, it can uh. spontaneously combust.

so if you make a mess of fabric with some linseed oil and then get distracted and it oxidizes and heats up and your discarded pants burst into flame, that's a lube problem you do not want to be having.

Like, Anakin might not know that Rex defected. He promoted Appo but technically Appo’s still second in command of the 501st, under Rex (Rex is still listed as a Captain because Anakin is really really fucking awful at paperwork). And then when Rex doesn’t show up, the obvious conclusion is that he’s dead, but Anakin still doesn’t let him get listed as MIA or KIA because that’s HIS CAPTAIN, dammit, and he’s lost Ahsoka, Padme, Obi-Wan, and literally everything else he ever cared about, he doesn’t want to face having lost Rex, too. And he works better with Rex than with anyone else (mostly because Rex has become accustomed to his bullshit and is Very Good at taking Anakin’s spectacularly stupid nonsense and Making It Work), and really he can’t picture leading the 501st with anyone OTHER than Rex at his side.

And then Rex keeps not coming back. But Vader still doesn’t remove him from the system. For years and years. And eventually everyone stops mentioning it to him because they tend to get force-murdered if they do. 

some admiral or other: (insert planet here)’s foolish insistence on resisting our totally fair resource mining agreement must not go unpunished

Vader: we will burn them to the ground and destroy their cities, leave no civilians alive

Rex: General, I have an idea. Instead of doing that, we do… not that.

Vader, nodding along: ok yeah sure Rex sounds good

admiral: ummm my lord

Vader: fuck you Rex knows what he’s doing

Rex: you heard the murderbot we’re going with my plan

meanwhile everyone’s low-key terrified of Rex because he regularly makes fun of Vader to his face and doesn’t die. Vader lets him do it because it’s such a relief to finally have someone competent working for him, who isn’t afraid to call him out on his stupid ideas. And Rex is like, medium-key terrified of Darth Fucking Vader, and horrified by what Anakin has become, but they also manage to form a salt-bond by bitching to each other about how lax the Imperial Army’s training standards are compared to the GAR.

Poor Rex. You just KNOW every time he tries to leave he’s thwarted by Imperials who despite their terror realise he’s a good influence on Vader and refuse any action that might risk losing him and going back to the regular unscheduled maimings…

And then of course there’s the whole “Skywalker” reveal - and honestly Luke is Rex’s best path back to the Rebellion:

Vader: Rex where are you? Have you finished clearing out those Rebel forces yet?

Rex: yeah about that General, turns out your kid was on base and I decided to take the opportunity to “defect” along with my best troops so we can keep a proper eye on him.

Vader: excellent! well done Rex! keep me informed.

Also means that Vader is unexpectedly confronted with a Luke who knows who he is, who he was, and what he could have been.

In short, one Vader defection coming up!

Rex: Uh, sir, I think you should believe the princess. She’s on a Diplomatic Mission™, she doesn’t have the plans, leave her alone

Vader: Aight, I trust u boo. (To Leia) Ok fine, you can go on back to Alderaan now. We’ll give you an escort.

Leia: *internally screaming FUCK cuz she’s already yeeted R2 and the plans off to Tatooine* Uhhhhh that’s really fine, thx, I have an uh, errand to run first, don’t wanna bother you.

Vader, suspicious: Oh rlly? Well we can come along on that too, I run errands for the Emperor all the time. I insist.

Leia: ok fine if you insist :) :) :)

Leia’s all right and panicked on how she’s gonna ditch Darth Chaperone on a sandy hell planet so she can look for some missing droids and a Jedi Master who’s supposed to be dead, but it turns out to be no big issue cuz the second Vader finds out they’re going to Fucking Tatooine, he nopes right out of there when Rex volunteers to stay and keep an eye on the princess.

Of course this culminates in Leia and Rex finding Luke and the droids, Rex learning Luke’s name, learning who Leia was originally sent there to find, seeing how the two of them connect near immediately. Rex puts EVERYTHING together.

All of this leads to poor Obi Wan getting his hut door kicked down by a very irritated Rex because he has some serious explaining to do.

Leia: also what’s your name?

*thirty minutes later, after Rex rage-yeets himself across miles of sandy wasteland to ruin a fucker’s day*

Rex: *kicks down obi-wan’s door* kenobi what the FUCK

I can totally see this happening, because it’s Anakin Petty-walker we’re talking about. Judging by how militarily incompetent everyone seems to be in Vader’s eyes, being able to talk with someone not-as-incompetent (from older times, yes, Vader doesn’t want to talk about it, and yes, Rex tried, Vader didn’t answer), might be a total relief to Vader and I could actually see Rex having the same influence as Luke when it comes to stopping Vader from randomly killing officers who, I don’t know, breathed in his direction or something. 

And Obi-Wan and Rex meeting again, after all these years? My mind is spiraling.

Rex: so youve just sat here???? for twenty years??? meditating????

Obi-Wan, putting his cup of tea down: No, my dear friend, you see, I have been-

Rex: oh please SHUT UP how are you so calm??? do you even know what ive been up to???

Obi-Wan, realising: …You’re still Commanding Officer to Anakin, aren’t you?

Rex: Yes, at first I didn’t- 

Luke, eyes wide open, shaking Obi-Wan’s shoulder: Anakin, as in, my dead father Anakin??? Anakin Skywalker?? The Jedi Hero????? The pilot????? The most fearless warrior that-  

Rex, brain short circuiting: Where’d you get that from?

Obi-Wan, blushing: Uh….. Luke, this is not the time. Go talk to Leia or I’m afraid she will break something, your sister seems quite angry-

Luke: Sorry, my what????????

Leia: His who?????????

Rex, looking at Leia, and then at Obi-Wan: a Skywalker?

I don’t think Anakin ever conciously turns back to the light, or defects to the Rebellion, in this AU. The process is so gradual he barely notices anything changing- and then one day he wakes up on a ship completely screwed by Rebels, surrounded by his Rebel friends and family, feeling happier and freer than he has in decades, and suddenly calling himself “Vader” just feels wrong.
