Following up on my last post (sorry, I still couldn’t resist making a few comments):
In Augustine’s writing, he says that after the death of the other half of his soul, life became horrifying to him, because he could not bear to go on living as only the surviving half... 🤡 I feel like this completely explains why Devin kills himself after killing Fia. The difference is that Augustine chooses not to die, because he fears that his own death would cause the person he loved so deeply to die completely as well. This inevitably reminds me of a tendency I have when portraying Darian. I often describe him as someone who cherishes his own life, because to him, that life does not belong to him alone. Perhaps this is also one small difference between the logic that guides Darian’s actions and the logic that guides Devin’s... (Maybe it is because there are still other people present in Darian’s life, while Devin has nothing apart from Darian—at least judging from the fragments of their lives that the story allows us to see.)
From the moment two souls (Or two fragments of one soul) become one, do you choose to live for yourself, or to live for the person you mourn?

Many years after the imperfectly perfect Age of Order ending, D—who never died—has become an ordinary knight of the Royal Capital. This is a simple story about one of the two Ds.
From interesting erotic discussions with a friend (...) Considering that the Lands Between is a place full of dangers where even going to pee could get you bitten by wild dogs, and that D & R's outfits each take at least half an hour to put on or take off, if they want to get steamy, they can only remove the most convenient piece, R's pants (.........)
So I am working on my Rogier Cosplay and with that, I was analyzing the belt decorations intensely… For hours tbh, yet I found nothing on Reddit about it. First, I hope, that video helps other cosplayers for accuracy (please credit, ok?) and second here‘s my interpretation of the symbols. More below under the cut, if you mind.
The right one: Quatenary Knot (one version of it, Celtic)
Meaning of it: Four Seasons, Four Elements, The Four Classical Stages of Life
Let‘s focus on the last one, because it‘s most appropriate to the one obsessed with Destined Death.
"Birth" – emergence, potential, the beginning of form
"Youth/Growth" – expansion, learning, becoming
"Maturity/Fullness" – peak, completion, giving back
"Death/Return" – dissolution, return to origin, becoming the ground for new birth
And the Knot encodes all four
Not as a line – Birth → Youth → Maturity → Death – which would have a start and an end.
But as a loop. Death feeds back into Birth. The endpoint is the starting point. The four stages are not sequential – they are simultaneous and interdependent.
Remove one – the knot collapses.
Which is exactly what Marika did. She removed death from the system.
And Rogier – carrying the complete knot on his belt – walks directly into the wound where Death was cut out. Godwyn is what happens when one stage of the knot is severed.
The knot on Rogier's belt is not decoration. It is a diagnosis of everything wrong with the Lands Between and his wish to put things right. The Golden Order being crooked, he wants to get back a natural life cycle (Not actually Fia‘s version of turning every being into Those Who Live in Death at last), but a real one.
Taking FromSoftware‘s NPC lines literal, always adds up some context. Rogier talks about Those Who Live In Death „These souls have committed no offence. They have every right to life…“ and explicitely says. Life, not live. Imo, this fits to the quatenary knot too well. Life is basically the four stages combined, which means he wants to save them by returning proper Death back to the Lands. It could've worked though. "A full circle forms a rune". He might have thought, that bringing the second part of the Cursemark to Godwyn's body, could have ended the infection of the roots and let his body die. Classical scholar's theory, which he wanted to analyze, but didn't make it there unfortunately.
The one on the left, not so easy to interpret. My opinion: Concentric Circles – The Stone and the Water
What the Image Actually Describes:
A single stone. Dropped. The water responds not at the point of impact – but outward. Endlessly. The origin is small. Almost invisible. The effect is everything.
What This Means as a Symbol:
The concentric circles do not show power. They show consequence. Something small touches something vast – and the vast thing reorganizes itself around that touch.
The stone does not force the water. The stone does not command the water. It simply arrives. And the water cannot help but respond.
In the Context of Rogier:
Rogier is the stone. Not powerful. Not divine. Not armed with revelation. He simply arrives at the roots beneath Stormveil. He touches Godwyn. He finds the wound.
And the consequences ripple outward – To you, The Tarnished as the next Circle - To Ranni. To the entire questline that ends the Golden Order.
So yeah… Apparently, these two symbols literally consumed me for some time and I think, Rogier might have the deepest impact as an NPC on the whole story, if you progress his questline. Btw, I also took a closer look on his bell bearing as a part of my cosplay. But more of it, when I have some cosplay progress <3
