Lecture at ESU
Hank suppressed a smile. He knew Tommy enough to know that gruff tone meant he actually appreciated the attention, to some degree. ”We give you that speech because we care about you, and about your future.” He shrugged and this time couldn’t hold back his smile. ”Even if you don’t like it.”
He started walking slowly through the thinning crowd. ”Speaking of which… what have you been up to lately? You haven’t applied at ESU, have you?”
"And now you're just sounding like my brother," Tommy replied wryly, fingers fidgeting in his pocket as he strode beside Hank. "I don't like a lot of things, I just happen to not comment on them a lot."
Wrinkling his nose at the next question, he laughed a little cynically, "I can barely sit on a bus for five minutes, do you really think I could actually dedicate time to study?"
Lecture at ESU
Hank shook his head. ”You have a lot of potential, Tommy. You shouldn’t settle for something just because it’s easier that way you know.” He really didn’t want to lecture the young man, but he really couldn’t understand this mentality he had, this apparent lack of ambition and thrive to do better, to be better, to improve and contribute to society.
He smiled. ”I’m sorry, you’re entitled to your own decisions. I guess that’s just the teacher in me talking.” Since the Academy pretty much self-maintaining as more of a free training facility than anything else, he hadn’t seen his students very often. Of course, Tommy was never a student at the academy, but Hank always wished he could have done more for the young speedster. He seemed to have an unease about life in general not dissimilar to Pietro, as though whatever happened, he’d never be happy about it.
"I get the potential speech nearly every time I run into one of you lot, trust me - I've heard it. You came up with some new phrases, so props to you," Tommy grumbled. A part of him was glad that he seemingly wasn't ignored, but on the other hand the attention left something a uncomfortable feeling within him. He knew he had potential, but that potential could work either way. There was a line that the Avengers knew he could cross just as easily as his family did on countless occasions.
Lecture at ESU
Hank jumped a bit when he heard a voice close to him, while he was certain there was no one there a second ago. He turned around, slightly startled, before recognising Tommy Shepherd. He let out a sigh of relief. With Hydra still lurking around, he had to stay on guard all the time.
"Tommy! I didn’t know you were here. Planning for a higher education?" Of course he would always encourage the younger generation to stay in school, but it did seem a bit surprising from Tommy, usually known for not being able to stand still for more than two seconds straight.
"Ha, no," the speedster scoffed, slightly bouncing on his feet as he walked beside the elder man. "I just take what comes at me, seems easier that way," he shrugged, looking around the corridors, "And besides, I can't keep still in those stupid lecture rooms. Ugh."
Lecture at ESU
The main lecture hall of the Empire State University was almost full, which was a bit surprising considering the summer semester was in session. But the university had organized a series of conferences with speakers from various fields, coming from all over North America, and even a few from England and Ireland, and had opened their doors not only to the already admitted students, but to those wishing to be or those admitted but who had yet to start their first term next Fall.
Hank had been asked to come and give a few lectures, since he had been affiliated with the Grayburn campus of the university for several years now, and had accepted gladly.
He had just finished his current lecture, which was a slightly modified version of the lecture he had given at the University of Oxford a few years back. He had made sure to unclutter it of the more technical terms so that first years students, or future students, wouldn’t be lost in the ‘techno-babble’.
Now that the lecture was over, he gathered his laptop and his tablet, shoved them in a messenger bag, and exited the hall after having chatted with a few other guest lecturers. He swung his bag across his shoulder and decided to wander a bit the corridors of the university.
Tommy had discovered that his inability to actually stay still for a period of time that was longer than 3 minutes severely hindered his education. That, after finally 'graduating' from high school he realised that he couldn't just settle down and go to university like every other teenager who graduated. It was never an option on the table, never ever ever.
But, that didn't mean he wanted to learn. With a mind like his and a memory to match, he craved the overloading of information because maybe for once he might actually want to stop for a moment. Not that he liked it, but it was perhaps the only thing he considered would hold him back. So, naturally, he used unconventional methods to get the information he wanted. Sneaking into lectures here and there was easy, it satisified his curiosity and he didn't feel like he wasn't doing anything with his life.
He was walking down the hall in Empire State University when he squinted at a familiar man walking ahead of him. Almost laughing to himself, he quickly appeared beside him and nudged him in the shoulder, "Crawled out of your underground ant hole?" he said to the Avenger, raising an eyebrow at hm.

i never rang your bell 'cause i knew it'd be forever
"So are you guys still teaming up? Or has that whole thing finished?" She asked as she picked the topping off of the pizza before she ate it.
"It’s all over the place," he huffed, picking at the topping on his pizza.
"We should start our own team!" She exclaimed.
"And that works, like...never," he groaned before taking a bite of his pizza.

She smiled back at him, it was always nice when Tommy expressed genuine feeling, it didn’t happen often. “Well we should do more fun things more often then.” She said with a smile, her legs dangling over the side of her chair. “Do you want a chair too?”
"We should," he agreed before chuckling, "I think I’d like a chair, thanks."
She grinned and waved her hand, creating another chair and table as she rested the pizza on the table. “And then we can go for drinks!”
Sitting down on the chair, he crossed his legs and took another slice of pizza, "Drinks sounds like a wonderful idea."

She laughed and took the plate and pizza from him as she sat down on a chair that appeared out of nowhere, well, a throne would be more apt. “Come on, we’ll share.” She said with a smile.
He chuckled, taking a slice of pizza from the plate, “So, how are you, Sylvie?” he asked casually before taking a bite.
"I’m okay.." She said with a small shrug. "I don’t see anyone really anymore, and I’ve been missing you guys a lot."
"Well, I miss you too," he smiled genuinely "I've jus been all over the place, nothing much."
