wee oo wee oo i made another carrie redesign. not MUCH changed for her batwoman costume because honestly it rules, but i did change the weird dual-tail flaps and mini cape shawl to more of a sleeveless long coat vibe. and gave her a belt. i am a carrie kelley stan first and a person second.
Chart of comparative Covenant military ranks and associated colors, listed from lowest to highest. Made using as little conjecture as possible. Colors and shades vary somewhat across media, but these are the colors most commonly associated with each rank. Little if any distinction is made between naval and army ranks, but some equivalent ranks are grouped together. Cells have been left uncolored where no information is known.
Below is a hypothetical universal rank system, based off of Halo: Combat Evolved's blue-red-gold system. Titles would vary by species, and practical authority would be contextual. An Unggoy Major might technically outrank a Sangheili Minor, but an Unggoy could never give orders to a Sangheili in the Covenant's caste system.
The abundance of gold armor may seem confusing, but Zealot ranks are relatively quite rare on the battlefield. In reality, armor color would be more of a shorthand for a soldier's general standing (enlisted, noncommissioned, commissioned). The subtlety of Covenant uniforms is most likely lost on human eyes. The intricacies of human military uniform patches, epaulets, chevrons, etc would probably be equally difficult for an alien race to recognize.
Interestingly, the blue-red-gold rank system of the Covenant forces is identical to the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. This color system is also seen in Toho's 1957 science fiction film, The Mysterians. I have to wonder if any other science fiction stories have this in common.

I have to wonder if the New Republic had a counter to the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. I'm sure a non-negligible amount of Stormtroopers defected to the Rebellion. The Old Republic used heavily armor shock troopers since the Mandalorian Wars. The Clone Wars saw this tradition revitalized by the Grand Army of the Republic. If the New Republic didn't have an equivalent force of marines, they would be at a considerable disadvantage. And it would certainly be in keeping with the Republican tradition.

I don’t think we ever see Republic Navy troopers during the Clone Wars, but the Imperial Sourcebook paints a fascinating picture.

headcanon:
The switch from the "clone trooper" nomenclature to "Stormtroopers" was more of a practical concern than any ideological or linguistic shift. With the enactment of Order 66, the Grand Army's officer corps was completely gutted of its upper echelons. To fill this void, a massive influx of career Republic Army officers were transferred to the elite branch. These new officers wanted to introduce new terminology that would include the new soldiers as well as the original clone troops. To this end, all Grand Army personnel would become known as Stormtroopers to include all soldiers in the branch.

After all of these amusing conjectures about the so-called "other", I feel it is time to reveal the obvious truth to all you sexist pigs. Were you all not sexist, you would have not been so culturally bound as to imagine Yoda said one thing, when he was actually saying another. The inescapable fact is, of course, that the speculation on "the other" is a misrepresentation of his statement. Yoda, of course, was talking about the female saviour to come: "No, there is ANNE NUTHER." So it was spoken, and so shall be done! --arlan andrews/american bell, inc./indianapolis
Personally, I really don't fuck with CF99's head-to-toe designer Gucci armor. It would be one thing if it was experimental armor, but their kits never appear later in the timeline. ARC troopers in Season 3 wear Phase 2 prototype armor, but we never see this story progression in the Bad Batch's case. They may have genetic mutations, but they're still Republic Commandos. They should really look the part.
I think Hunter, Tech, and Crosshair would all wear standard Katarn armor with additional gear for their specializations. Wrecker could wear modified Blaze Trooper armor. This armor has a powerful exoskeleton and favors melee attacks. Echo could probably just keep his ARC trooper gear—it's comparable to Katarn armor and definitely a flex. I just think he'd get a replacement hand. Fighting with one hand seems like suicide and certainly worthy of a medical discharge. This was nearly what we got if you watch the story reels for the scrapped Kashyyyk arc. It's a shame they stripped his equipment down for the finished product.

I think the difference between the multimedia project ARC Troopers and TCW ARCs could be similar to the real life Army Rangers.
The 75th Ranger Regiment is an elite special forces unit, but one can also be a "small r ranger" by graduating Ranger School. ARC Troopers are probably a similar case. On the one hand you have the Null and Alpha ARCs serving in the Special Operations Brigade, specially bred and trained for their unique roles. On the other hand, standard infantry clones can be promoted to ARC Trooper status.
I'd wager these promoted ARCs are required to train under actual commandos in order to get their coveted status, and some distinctions almost certainly exist. Promoted ARCs would technically be considered "lowercase ARC troopers", or ARC-qualified. We do know Alpha-17 taught a special course for high ranking officers. Conceivably, a wider program could've existed to train troopers like Fives, Echo, and Jesse.
