A moment to admire his success.
The titter of satin-clad ladies as they weaved through the crowd, a sheen of colour dancing in the placid lighting.
The guffaw and smooth chatter of men as they set up shop at a conveniently placed table, keen eyes scouring the selection of flawless skirts and deliberating their next choice in conversation, or hand to play against the other.
Mood and music painted this pretty picture at Valentine's, with the finest of brushes and an artist's masterful hand. It was a flurry of bodies dressed to the nines-- a symphony of clinking tumblers and cubes of ice rattling in their glass confines, top-dollar alcohol their watery grave. All against a background of appropriate architecture and live jazz that soothed the wary soul. It had everyone settled into their seats or otherwise relaxed, drumming their fingers to the sound. The occasional declaration of victory as a man robbed another of their winnings pierced the air and garnered glances from the collection of people that populated the vicinity.
The jazz played on, the musicians uninterrupted by the intermittent ruckus the games had inspired. They were accustom to the noise by now, and even enjoyed it.
Vincent Valentine-- money dressed him in the sharpest suit and power fortified his confidence-- had been nestled into a glorified seat of the best comfort money could buy, cradling a flute of champagne in one hand, while the other perched on a raised thigh, one leg crossed over the other. He was the picture of sophistication; one that promised a life of hell dogging your footsteps should you shatter what small smile he had gracing his features. A quiet aggression loomed behind that mask he'd fashioned to lure in your trust.
Though there was no ill will polluting Vincent's intentions this night. Instead, he relished in the idle palaver and merriment that hung in the atmosphere, even tapping a finger against his thigh in time with the beat of the music. He paused only for a sip of his champagne, analysing the throng of people that found solace or mirth in the alcohol he promised and the music that spoke without words.
His glass lowered, and a hint of amusement tugged at the corner of his mouth, and subsequently manifested as a smirk, hardly paying any mind to another round of vocalised disapproval blaring from the poker table just short of his alcove.
There was nothing like the sight of a business, raised from the ground by an iron fist, drowning in attention. He reveled in his work as an artist would their filled canvas.
One or two reasons why you want this(these) character(s)
I absolutely adore mob boss characters. The power, the violence, the underhanded deception that frequents mob/gangster storylines appeals to me greatly. The way their leaders command attention through fear and promise of something worse than death, the confidence they possess because they know they're all that-- they're some of my favourite kind of characters, particularly if they're indiscriminate with their hostility. I suppose I'm a little bored with nice and good characters and wanna see a little bad.
Another plus: Mads Mikkelsen, in my opinion, is the perfect face claim for this kind of character. Every role he plays seems to be the kind of guy that smiles while he threatens you, or has that underlying virulence in his tone that puts you on edge. I've always loved that about him.
Any questions?: Are we permitted to add little headcanons or factoids about our characters? Nothing that has a major affect on their biography or anything, just little things.
Anything else?: Nope!
