So um, guess I'll be going on a hiatus. Not sure when I'll be back! Just wanted to say I'm sorry for whoever I disappointed, this has just been a clear decision to take ever since I went off the grid. I'll keep writing though, just not here.
Anyhow I wanted to thank everyone who supported me through this and helped me grow. I seriously love you all, this experience has certainly made me grow as a writer :D

And I say that it's funny because it's not and I literally had half a mind to rewrite this whole thing but hey, I was so tired yesterday and wrote this on a whim

Snow. It had to be snow. Couldn't it have been something easier to go through? Like a gentle breeze on a sunny day perhaps. But of course, mother nature had to turn on you today of all days.
"I'm sorry, this date was an absolute disaster," you cringed inwardly at yourself for dragging him into this troublesome situation.
The weather had been so clear this morning. What the hell happened to that blue sky just a few hours ago?
"It wasn't a disaster per se," Neji assured you, a click echoing throughout the car, signaling that the doors were securely locked. "The time I spent with you was quite enjoyable if I do say so myself."
You gave him a small smile,"thanks Neji. But still, I wanted today to be special. It's our first Christmas together after all."
"Don't worry about that now, what's important is that you stay warm until the storm passes," he wraps a scarf around your neck, covering you in his coat that was big enough to act as a blanket.
"Okay…" you begrudgingly agreed, sinking into your seat.
You could hear the wind shaking the vehicle and the hail that pounded on the roof like small pebbles. You were starting to worry. What if you couldn't get home even after the snowstorm was over? What if the car breaks down and the heaters stopped working? What if-?
A warm palm over yours broke you out of your spiralling thoughts. You didn't even notice that you were shaking despite the layers, your heart beating at a worrying pace.
You stole a glance at him, and he squeezed tighter. Sometimes you felt an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for this man. You knew he was worried whenever you got like this, but he stayed calm despite that, knowing that him getting all worked up would just spur you on. He was like a sturdy rock you could always count on whenever you felt your world was unstable.
"Just breathe," you could hear him say, although he wasn't facing you. "It's going to be alright, we will get out of this soon."
You took a shaky breath in, and exhaled, feeling a little better. Neji rubbed a thumb in calming circles while still being firmly interlaced. It was soothing, he was soothing.
Snow had always brought in bad memories for you. Your parents had been buried and killed by it years ago, the memory still haunting you 'till this day. The winter season had always been your least favourite thing about Christmas, but for his sake, you thought it would be fine to take a chance and go out today since it looked to be a bright day earlier this morning.
"I was worried this might happen," he said, breaking the silence.
Your eyes snapped to look at him.
"I didn't want to say otherwise because you looked so excited," Neji sighed, tilting his head towards you so he could see you through one eye,"I should have seen this coming."
You opened your mouth to assure he didn't have to blame himself. That this was your decision and yours alone. Though he continued before you even had the chance to open your mouth.
"You don't ever have to go out for my sake, in the future" Neji said, almost as if he had read your thoughts. Another thing about him was that he sometimes, somehow knew what you were thinking.
"However and wherever a day is spent, if spent with you, would be special enough for me."
A warm sensation shot through you at his words, making you want to look away and bury your face into the scarf. You were sure you looked as red as a ornament right about now so you turned to face the cool window to make sure he wouldn't see the state of your cheeks.
"I-i feel the same way," was all you managed to say.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw him smile and you were comforted enough to wait out the storm, without feeling even an inch of fear this time.

"Hey," you said, lacking an edge to your voice,"don't you dare bail on me again this year."
You heard a huff from the other side of the call, followed by a, "I can't promise that."
Clicking your tongue (at his statement or the tangled tinsel in front of you, you didn't know), you shifted your phone from one shoulder to the other.
"Sasuke, we have this conversation every year and I want a clear answer this time. Is work really more important than spending time with me on my favourite holiday?"
"And no, shipping me a gift does not count."
"I'm busy during Decembers, you know that," he sounded annoyed, like he always does when you confront him with something. As if your concerns were always so inconvenient.
"You can't come back for just a day? It hurts to be alone when it's so cold and festive," you hung up another sparkly ornament to the faux pine tree you had set up (with great difficulty).
It just felt lonely. Decorating your home without him, eating Christmas dinners without him, dodging questions as to why your lover was never with you.
"Y'know...you should just marry your job instead," you mumbled under your breath.
"What was that?" Sasuke didn't sound like he was listening at all. "Look, I've got to go. I'll give you a call later tonight."
And there he went.
You gave out a long sigh. Not that you were surprised that he couldn't make it. Oh well, it was cold enough and you didn't want to be all gloomy.
Now, where was that wine you had stored away?
The doorbell is ringing. Why is the doorbell ringing?
You groggily lifted your head from the kitchen counter, you must've fallen asleep after a glass, to look at the wall clock.
11:48 p.m.
It was late, who was crazy enough to be at your doorstep just a few minutes away from midnight, at Christmas eve?
Rubbing your eyes, you slowly pad over to answer the guest, whoever it was.
"Who is-?...!?"
A man in a dark suit with raven hair and suspiciously familiar black eyes had appeared to be your 'guest'.
"I'm home," he said.
After a moment of silence, you laugh.
"Ahh I get it now," you were halfway about to close the door,"I must be drunk and hallucinating. There is no way he came home unannounced just in time for Christmas."
"Y/N," Sasuke wedged a foot in between the door,"I wanted to surprise you. But there's no point if you won't let me in."
You peeked out to take a good look at him. Well he certainly looked and talked like Sasuke, but it just seemed too good to be true.
"Is this one of those Christmas Miracles everyone keeps talking about?"
"I planned this--for you. Miracles have nothing to do with it."
Yeah...it's definitely Sasuke.
After confirming it in your mind, you leapt forward to embrace the man you had wanted so much to spend time with, and finally you got your wish.
"Best. Christmas present. Ever," your voice was half muffled into his chest and you could feel his hand patting your back as he led you back into the warmth of your home.

"Y/N," Kakashi's eyes widened upon seeing you, at his doorstep, looking rather dressed down considering the weather. "I have so many questions."
"I didn't think it'd snow and your place was the closest," you grumbled, not even bothering with the manners and pleasantries at this point. The cold can really make one snappy. "Now, are you going to let me in or what?"
"Well, I don't really want you freezing to death if I could help it," the door widened and he stepped to the side.
You mumbled a thanks and rushed in, only to find that the interior was not as warm as you had thought.
"Kakashi- do you even turn on your heater?"
Said man shut the door behind him with a click before replying,"ah yeah, they're on. Is it not warm enough for you?"
"Not really…" you murmured, but you didn't exactly want to complain. Considering your vague relationship status with him, him letting you in was already something to be grateful for.
"Can I just, maybe, make tea for myself? Or anything you have really, I'll be out of your hair as soon as I'm warmed up."
And you meant it. You wanted to get out and come back home as fast as possible, but with the winds picking up and the snow falling faster and thicker, it doesn't look like you could anytime soon.
"You know, funny thing is I ran out of hot beverages. I would go out to buy some but," Kakashi gestured to the window then bent down to open a drawer. "Will warm water do?"
"Yes," you said, cupping your hands around your mouth and breathing into them. A minute longer out there and you'd surely turn into an icicle. This is why you need to read up on the weather report sometimes.
You could hear Kakashi rummage around for a glass, pouring some water into it, but other than that the room was silent. So silent it made you uncomfortable. But what were you expecting? Asking him about his plans for the holidays? Or even worse, asking him how his life was at the moment? Such small talk would've been possible if it weren't for-
"Here you go," your thoughts were interrupted by him handing you a steaming cup of water.
"Thank you," you said, making sure your hands did not touch while he was passing the cup to you. The warmth instantly made you loosen up a little and for the first time since you got here, you took a good look around.
"Never knew you had a fireplace."
He was out of your sight, so you didn't know what he was doing or even where he was, but you assumed he was by the window where you saw a plain wooden chair had been.
"It's built in. I never use it though, except during Christmas day when the kids come to visit."
At that, a small smile tugged at your lips. Before you could stop yourself, you had asked yet another question.
"How are they? Naruto, and Sakura? And Sasuke?"
You heard Kakashi let out a breathy chuckle,"Naruto's grown quite nicely, still as spritely as ever though. Sakura's in med school now as far as I'm concerned. And Sasuke's...well, the same as he's always been."
"I'm glad to hear that," you pulled the now empty cup close to your chest, its warmth cooling rapidly now that its heat source was gone.
As if on cue, the doors and windows rattled slightly. The snow looked like it was getting worse. You shivered.
"I'll be right back," Kakashi said all of a sudden. You turned round and saw him getting up from that wooden chair you pictured him sitting in. Ah, he was reading that god awful book series. Was he still into that kind of thing? Thinking about just how much you missed made a pang of nostalgia echo from your chest to your ears, much like how the physical cold had made you feel.
You shivered.
With all that was going on inside your head, you didn't notice him come back, but you were forced to notice when the fireplace blazed into life.
"You didn't...have to do that," you squirmed in your seat, now comfortably warmed by the roaring flames. Why did he have to be so caring? When you were the one who technically barged in unnoticed.
Kakashi just shrugged, before sitting beside you with a distance in between, reopening that book you saw him reading earlier.
Silence again. And you couldn't bear it. This god be damned snow had brought you to face old memories you thought you forgot, but still deeply cared about. Curse it all.
You were warm on the outside now. But why were you still feeling cold? Where was it that the flames couldn't reach?
"Kakashi."
Through your quickly blurring sights, you could see him turn to face you out of the corner of your eye.
"You don't have to...and I-i'm being selfish but-" you struggled to say the words without quivering, tears that should have fallen a long time ago now falling down the sides of your cheeks. "Would you hold...me?"
It was a ridiculous request. And you wouldn't even be upset if he didn't comply, but as those oh so familiar strong arms wrap around you and the feeling of his head on your shoulder, the something that has been keeping all the hurt back broke. And you broke. But it was looking like it'll all be alright now, because he was here now.
Even if the heartbreak was your own fault, even if this relief was only temporary, you were glad he still embraces you like he did the first time.

There was always a particular fire about you that Kakashi couldn’t understand. It wasn’t that he was against it; he just had no idea how this came to be. For all he knew, you were classmates in the academy for a short while until he graduated, and then a few years later, became a genin.
His unknowing is why, when you were young, you would see the words ‘he doesn’t understand you’ written on your wrist.

And for a short while, you had no idea who your soulmate could be. You knew that your soulmate, whoever this guy was, had to reside in Konoha, for he knew you enough to claim that he couldn’t understand you.
And that was fine by you. You didn’t ask to be understood by someone you didn’t know.That all changed when you were a preteen. You had overheard a conversation, not eavesdropping, just overhearing, between Kakashi and his teammates Obito and Rin.
“It’s just a girl, Kakashi. What isn’t there to understand? We’ve got a girl on our team,” Obito spoke, loud enough for you to hear him.
“It’s not just any girl, Obito,” Rin told him; her voice was quieter but still audible. “It’s his soulmate. And, if I’m not mistaken, his soulmate is Y/N. She’s not exactly easy to understand.”
You didn’t stick around long enough to hear the rest of the conversation. In your mind, you had heard enough.
“If he doesn’t understand me, fine,” you huffed. “I’ll make sure he never does.”

From that moment on, you and Kakashi never seemed to get along. Arguments were a standard for the two of you to share, and they never really got resolved, either.
You kept your wrist, the one that shared Kakashi’s feelings about you, permanently wrapped up in bandages so you wouldn’t have to look at it. When you did have to switch them, you made sure the writing was facing away from you. You didn’t want to see how he felt about you.

“Why do you wear those bandages?” Kakashi asked one day. The two of you weren’t alone. Obito and Rin were there, as well as your teammates, Hiraku and Yumi.
“What’s it to you?” You snapped, glaring at him. “You’re always wearing that mask. I don’t think you should be talking.” You scoffed, folding your arms over your chest.
Hiraku placed his hand on your shoulder. “Look, as much as I hate arguments, Y/N’s got a point,” he stated.
“Oh, does she?” Kakashi narrowed his eyes. But right before the argument could get worse, Rin stepped in and told Kakashi that they were trying to have a nice lunch, just the six of them and that it wasn’t going to get interrupted by an argument.
Sometimes, you hated that Rin and Yumi were friends. If they weren’t, you probably wouldn’t see Kakashi as often.

That argument was back when you were sixteen.
Now that you were a Jōnin, along with the squad you were in when you were a genin, you didn’t feel obligated to spend as much time with Hikaru and Yumi anymore. They were still your friends, but you didn’t feel guilty about declining Yumi’s invitations to spend time with Rin and her old team.
Instead, you simply hung around your friend from the academy, Atsushi Takenaka. Unlike yourself, or anyone else you knew of besides Obito and Rin, he and his soulmate were placed on the same squad as genin. Her name was Aina, and she came from a clan that was notorious for their ability to grow plants seemingly out of nothing. Her powers were intriguing, and when she and Atsushi were first getting to know each other, she would grow things using her ability and later gave them to him as gifts.

“I can’t believe you haven’t looked at your soulmates’ feelings about you in ten years,” Atsushi stated, sitting on a rooftop of a random building the two of you picked out, “aren’t you curious as to what Kakashi thinks of you?”
You shrugged. “Not really. I mean, it wouldn’t exactly be something nice. We’ve been arguing since the day after I discovered we were soulmates. It’s probably something like ‘he thinks you’re a total bitch.’”
After the two of you laughed for a few minutes, Atsushi spoke up again. “Why do you argue with him so much, anyway? Did he do anything to you? Like, at all?”
You stared at him for a few moments, and then you sighed. “It’s… complicated. He didn’t do anything to me directly, but it’s the fact that he doesn’t understand me. What’s there to not understand?” You groaned, placing your head in your hands. “So I’m simply not letting him understand my motives. If he doesn’t understand me, he never will.”
Atsushi sighed. “Look, I’m no love expert, that’s Aina, but she’d say you’re being petty. You and Kakashi were never friends. And even before the constant arguments, there’s always been this thing about you that’s hard to comprehend.”
“What do you mean, ‘this thing about me’?” You raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
“You’re bright. You’re powerful. You’re… you.” He replied. “But you’re also kind and pure. I’ve heard people say that you’re as lovely as the sky. And you know the writings can be vague. Don’t you remember when my writing said ‘she thinks you’re honest’? Everyone thinks I’m honest,” he laughed. “I think you should talk to Kakashi, Y/N. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find out something you didn’t know,” he ended his speech with a wink.
The wink caused your face to heat up slightly. Atsushi was the only one who knew of your feelings for the boy. You hadn’t told anyone else, and Atsushi had sworn to keep it a secret.
What you had forgotten was that your feelings for Kakashi were on his wrist, too. He had likely known before you knew.

Later, in the evening, you were walking down the path to go to your home, twirling a kunai around in case you needed it for self-defence. Atsushi’s words still rang clear as day in your mind, “maybe you’ll find out something you didn’t know,” followed by that wink, were the two things that kept you distracted all afternoon, and they were still distracting you so much that you were unaware of the person you crashed into until you felt their chest bump into yours.
“Sorry,” you muttered, sidestepping out of the person’s way before continuing along your path.
However, the person didn’t like that, and so they grabbed you by the wrist. The wrist you had covered in bandages; Kakashi’s feelings.
“Hey! Do you have a problem!?” You snapped, readying your kunai. However, this person, whoever he was, seemed to be stronger than you by enough an extent that his hands were now wrapped around both of your wrists.
“Yeah, I have a problem,” Kakashi spoke. You looked up at him, narrowing your eyes. You wanted to get out of there, but that would involve causing a scene since the only way you could do that was by making him cry out by using your legs, or you’d have to cry for help. Not wanting to draw attention to either of you, you stayed put, albeit reluctantly.
“Can we not fight anymore?” He asked.
“What?” You raised your eyebrow for what felt like the millionth time that day, tempted to scoff at his words.
“Please. Can we not fight anymore? I know how you feel about me. It’s not worth it.”
Your eyes widened. “Atsushi, that little brat! Why I’m going to-”
He chuckled. “Aren’t you forgetting? Your soulmates’ feelings about you are on your wrist. I’ve known how you felt probably as long as you have if not longer.”
Realization dawned upon you just then. Kakashi was right, and you had completely forgotten about that minor detail; everyone knew how their soulmate felt about them.
You laughed. “Well, if the Kakashi Hatake doesn’t want to fight anymore, who am I to say no? Fine. No more fighting.”
“One more thing,” he smirked, “uncover your wrist.”
You rolled your eyes at him, taking your wrists back from his grip with as much strength as you could muster, and it was successful. Gently holding your wrist, you contemplated your actions.
Was it worth it? Did you want to give him the satisfaction of winning?
No. No, this wasn’t Kakashi winning. Although you supposed it could be a trick, but you had always deemed that as more of Obito’s thing. Reluctantly, you unwrapped the bandages on your wrist, placing them in Kakashi’s hands. The least he could do is hold them.
And when you saw the writing on your wrist, you understood.
