Stroke: woah, really?

Stroke: that’s so cool, i have unicorns in my family

Ken: Both of my parents are dragons. :D It’s easier for dragons to be in relationships with each other just because regular anthries are so small compared to us. I’m 8’3 but I’m actually short as far as most dragons go.

Stroke: that’s so scary. i’m only a little over 4 feet tall

Stroke: i’m one of the shortest people in my family. the only person shorter in my immediate family is my 10 year old sibling OTL

Ken: How old are you?

Stroke: 16 🥹

Ken: :C That sucks.

Stroke: i know WHY i'm short but it doesn't really help.

Stroke: you see, one of my parents has TUC (the uncommon cold) so i have it in my blood. my younger sister wendy inherited it from our parent and developed it when he was almost 10. apparently TUC develops around 10-13 years old when it's genetic.

Stroke: i was 12 at the time wendy developed TUC, and our brother marco was 15 but he didn't have it-- so i still was sort of in the "red zone" for developing TUC.

Stroke: so my parents talked to our doctor and put me on a GRH analog temporarily which was supposed to have the effect of preventing me from developing it. but these also prevent you from going through puberty, so in other words i just wasn't really... growing.

Stroke: they took me off of it when i was 14 and out of the "red zone" but it kinda had this weird effect on my body that just. prevented me from growing any more. it's been 2 years since i stopped taking it and i'm not a CENTIMETER taller.

Stroke: unfortunately i do have sort of really mild TUC symptoms. i have temperature regulation problems which developed after i stopped taking the analogs but it's better than full-on TUC.

Stroke: sorry i didn't mean to give you my medical history in our first conversation. i probably shouldn't do that

Ken: To be fair, we were talking about heights, so it was kinda relevant to the conversation.

Ken: That's super interesting but it also sucks at the same time. I hope you can grow someday.

Stroke: me too dude. looking like i'm 12 when i'm 16 isn't fun

Ken: I mean I'm short for a dragon, so I can relate a little to you. In a convoluted way!

Stroke: one of my parents is 6'10" and he's not even my parent, he's my neardad. wish i could be that tall. made my sona that height

Ken: O: You have a neardad?

Stroke: …………….uh oh. here comes THIS conversation

Ken: O.O ?

Stroke: my family is like... a giant polycule. i have... tears i don't even fucking know. the amount of nearparents i have is so much i can't even count. also my siblings. including nearfamily it's probably like over 20 kids. it sounds like a fucking cartoon. or a really bad sitcom. but it's completely real. something is wrong with my parents

Ken: ...that's... a lot of siblings. I cannot imagine how you keep track of them all.

Stroke: i guess it's just all i've ever known. i don't know what a "normal" family feels like. i know lots of families are polyamorous but the cartoonish absurdity of the size of my family is like a joke.

Stroke: "why" you ask? who fucking knows. they can't even give a straight answer when you try to ask why they have so many children. emem should like have laws against this

Ken: The implication that Emem makes "egg laws" is really funny to imagine. XD

Stroke: idek man there should just be something saying you can't do this. i mean i love all of them, i do, i love my whole family. but ANNLESS FUCKING TEARS. our entire town knows who we are. i think all of moorening does if i'm honest. i don't even wanna think about it

Ken: I have no siblings! I have no idea what that's like.

Stroke: so bewildering to imagine people without siblings when my life is nothing but siblings. most of the people i know in real life are my siblings. i don't have IRL friends so like...... =_=; ; ;

Ken: Me neither. I'm homeschooled so I don't really know many other people.

Stroke: school is the only thing keeping me from spending 100% of my time in my room i think. i hate going places. we go on outings and stupid trips all the time and i hate it!!!!!

Ken: I wish I could go on trips more often. We usually just fly everywhere cuz we're too big for cars and it's hard to fly a long distance. I think I just don't do it enough though, my dad goes on business trips all the time and he has no problems.

Stroke: the more we talk the more i realize our lives are like... almost opposite i mean-- you're tall, i'm short-- you're homeschooled, i go to school--you have no siblings, while i have ten zillion-- it's a little funny, i wonder what it'd be like if we swapped lives.

Ken: Hmmm... I don't know if I want a different life. I love my family and I love where I live.

Stroke: i live vicariously through my sona since i don't like my life very much. he has a bit of lore but it's barely anything. it's more that he just has a life that's simple and he also has cool dragon powers.

Stroke: ....so kinda like your life.

Ken: Living through your OCs is fun though! It's escapism and it helps.

Stroke: sometimes i imagine living life from the perspective of an OC...

Stroke: ...and it feels pretty real to me. like i can see through their eyes.

Stroke: and see what they see.

Howie and Ally talk about space together, and a little more.

Year: 6041

"What do you think of when you look at space, Howie?"

Ally and kits best friend were lying in the backyard of the Comet house, looking at the stars together. As Ally spoke, Howie frowned and blinked up at the sky as if trying to figure out pups answer. He honestly... Wasn't entirely sure he knew, actually.

"...weww..." he began, swallowing, "I guess I tink of da stars and da pwanets?

Wike da ones we weawn about in school?..."

The kittycorn sighed, shifting and folding her hands over her chest. "Do you ever like... wonder what's out there at all? What lies beyond what we can see here..?" she murmured.

With a slight head tilt, Howie fixed his small eyes on the same sky that Ally lay beneath. Because of East Eroid being in Moorening, it was pretty remote, especially where they lived on the outskirts, and this made the stars very bright on a clear night.

Maybe that contributed to some of Ally's intrigue with space - the way she could look up at the sky and see so much.

"Unwuhh... I guess l've tought about it befowe... But it scawes me a wittle bit... I-I mean, awiens coud be anyting..." Howie mumbled.

The crickets were literal and metaphorical. Ally became quiet and all they could hear was the crickets chirping in the clear summer night. It took a bit for kit to speak again, but eventually she did. "...sometimes I feel like an alien," she spoke simply and softly, with very little tone.

Howie glanced at Ally, wondering what she meant. "Why's dat?"

"... it's... a little hard to explain. Part of it is this inexplicable feeling of being drawn owards space and wanting to experience it... Another part being... this feeling o nsatiable homesickness. I don't feel at home in my house. I-I..." Ally began to tea up. "I don't feel at home with my family. I know they love me, and I love them, but I feel like I'm not one of them. Like I don't belong. I-if I'm honest, the only time I ever truly feel at home... is when I'm with you. Like..."

The girl was dripping tears now. "L-like you're space to me. I've felt this connection with space ever since my dad told me about it, and I've felt a connection with you ever since the day we met." The kittycorn wiped her eyes. "S-sorry if that's….weird..."

Howie was blushing. He couldn't help it. Pup felt really warm inside knowing Ally felt so fondly of pup like that... It was such an incredible honor to be seen that way by her. Especially with how much he liked her. "...w-wowie... I... I don't even know wat to say, Awwy... I... I- feew da same way..." He was trying really hard to not cry too. "You'we my bestest fwiend in da whole worwld.."

Ally looked at Howie, still teary-eyed. "... c-can I say something... a little weird..." she asked suddenly, tense. Howie also became tense, clenching his fist a bit.

"...o-of couse, Awwy..." Howie answered, looking nervous about whatever his best friend had to say. Ally didn't seem to know how to say it either. She felt and equally looked incredibly awkward right now, sweating, with rosy cheeks. She was taking a long time to say anything. "..A-Awwy?" Howie echoed, trying to get her attention in case she'd spaced out (what an ironic way to put it).

“... you're not my best friend in the world. You're my best friend in the Rolas Metsys. In the Twix galaxy. The whole wide universe. You're... more than just a friend to me. I.. d-don't really know what I mean by that entirely..." —(a slight lie) — "…but I know just as little about what's out in space... and.. it still feels like home to me. No matter what's out there or no matter what I'm feeling. That's how I feel about you. I... hope that's not...w-weird.." Ally stammered, obviously worried about how this would be taken.

Howie was incredibly flustered, painted crimson, seemingly still processing whatever it was Ally was implying. He wasn't entirely sure if she was saying what pup thought she was, and was very worried about misunderstanding and making things awkward.

But ultimately he realized it was possible even Ally genuinely didn't know what she meant by it either. He tried to respond with that approach. "..u-uhwum... I... I awso feew dat way. I.. don't weawwy know what it is eithew..."—(a huge lie)—"…b-but I guess we habe time to figuwe it out," he said, giving one of his signature goofy smiles.

Ally returned the smile and pulled her best friend into a hug, and Howie felt a rumbling against his chest and could hear Ally purring against him. It was so healing. Purring always was healing. He rubbed her back and held her close. He glanced up at the stars as Ally remained in his embrace.

He didn't really care what was out there.

He had the whole universe in his arms already.
