disclaimer!! i write my OCs messy, mentally ill, morally grey, and tactless! i will often have them do or say things that i don't agree with or even that i think are cruel. this... really should be pretty apparent given that one of my primary OCs is a murderer. if there's a tagging accommodation that I can make, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
for content warnings, everything is tagged as "#content", "#cw content" or "#cw content mention", in descending order of prevalence!
for trigger warnings, i tag "#tw content" if [content] is not present nor mentioned explicitly, but i felt that it was implied, intentionally or unintentionally.

โ"AITA for finding my wife attractive now that he's a man..???"
AITA for finding my wife attractive now that he's a man..???
Um. Hello. I... have no idea where else I would ask for advice with this.
My wife and I have had an... uncomfortable relationship, for most of our marriage. I may have lied to her about loving her while we were dating. I have never been "in love" with her, but I think in some ways I did yearn for companionship. Needless to say, our relationship has not been going well. She has a petty, vindictive, and controlling personality, and living at home quickly became a nightmare.
Eventually, a certain... powerful individual, um, took an interest in me. He has been using me to meet his own ends, and over time I believe I have begun to develop affections for him. I am not sure whether he feels the same, nor do I intend to act on it.
My wife, however, has noticed the looks I give him, and has somehow come to the conclusion that I am homosexual. I am not homosexual. I am not certain I am heterosexual either, but I assure you there is nothing sexual about any of my interests.
Regardless, it seems that... in order to win over my favor, my wife has decided to transition to male. The most bizarre part is that it seems to be working.
In my opinion, it's not simply his body or identification which has changed. It seems that he is truly happier this way, and he has a certain... confidence and charm that he did not used to. I believe this is the source of my shift in feelings for him, though he insists that it is because I am gay.
To be clear, he is still a woman as well. He says he prefers to match his pronouns to the body he is presenting with, and is "male-female bigender", which as I understand it, means that he is both a man and a woman at all times, irrespective of the body he is in. He has also requested that I still refer to him as my wife.
The only way I can reason through this discrepancy is that somehow, experimenting with his identity has made his own personality more tolerable, but it still feels ridiculous to only feel something now that he's expressing his male identity more. Am I "homoromantic"? Am I an asshole? Has my wife simply bettered himself? Please help.
EDIT: No, I am not cheating on my wife with that other individual.
EDIT: I am not misgendering my wife, he asked me to specifically align his pronouns with his presentation.
EDIT: My wife is now courting the other person I liked. I think he may be attempting to establish a polycule. It is mortifying, but he didn't immediately sentence my wife to death, so perhaps he has more charm than I realized?
EDIT: Thank you all for the feedback, both positive and negative. I really needed to hear that and I will be more considerate going forward. My wife has found this post and the situation has been resolved (she doesn't think I'm TA but she does think this is hilarious. She has recommended I look into demi-romantic identities as well.)
just woke up to like 6 people asking for the source for my AITA-- i didn't realize this would be so popular???
anyway to those asking, they're my original characters that I occasionally post about on this blog! this is specifically a kind of humorous "what-if" AU of my in-progress story Sovereign Possession of Will, which currently only has part one (about 2k words) posted in addition to one poster-style drawing and another, older AITA ask! though unfortunately the tone of that story is entirely different-- this AITA is about the kind of sitcommy slice-of-life endgame of that story.
( tagging those who have asked so far: @digital-roots, @glitchy-void-tech, @timatisblog, @ryukiki, @sugaroto, and @just-a-multi-fandom-mess )
and to ease the disappointment of it not being a professionally published media, here is the (out-of-character) meme I sent my partner, whose enthusiastic reception inspired this ask:
thank you all so much for the positive feedback and excitement!! it genuinely means a lot!
Featuring Zena (she/her & ze/zir & it/its), who is unaware she looks like a monster (but really isn't one at heart) and William (he/him) who really is one but doesn't look it.

The first image is just me having fun experimenting with my xtf transgender plant girl's design.
The second image is from a (so far) unpublished scene in which William asks his crush the person blackmailing him if they aren't bothered that he's a monster. They reply with a sneer, "What are you talking about? That's the point. You're my monster."
He doesn't have a reply-- he's never seen his inhuman features as desirable before, much less his actions that weigh on his conscience. He's just as flattered as he is intimidated.

"Want me to keep your secret?" The tone felt almost sing-song in its playful hostility, though the words were spoken in a level, cool voice.
It felt like a whisper from behind. A shiver ran along William's skin in anticipation of their breath, but the sensation never cameโ the sound lacked the warmth or moisture that he braced himself for, and the air remained still.

A 12+ hour drawing that I was inspired to create for the bweirdOCtober event! (Specific OC-tober prompt responses, and how they relate to the drawing in question, under the cut!)
โญ09 - Relationships:
This work in particular represents Aine and William's relationship to one another when they first interact. After Aine uncovers William's violent criminal history, he blackmails William into doing his dirty work, to give himself a political edge and take care of some injustices outside the gaze of the law. And to ease his restless boredom. William in turn grows increasingly devoted to him, as he's never been trusted and valued by anyone as much as this before. It's mostly amusing to me that between the young prince and the experienced assassin, it's the murderer who's on the backfoot. The very first sentence of the quote listed above is a link to the first 1.8k words I've written about it!
๐ก 02 - New OC:
The ominously looming blonde figure here is Aine, @glitterkeecher's character! He's a new addition as of last year (WOW. how the time flies), and in this particular setting, he's a prince who is very skilled at digging up information he's not supposed to have. He's cunning, and smart, and closed-off emotionally, but ultimately he just wants someone who he can actually trust.
๐ก 07 - Likes:
Aine likes reliable pawns to do his bidding, entertaining developments, and small emotional vulnerabilities and interpersonal connection-- with the safety buffer of blackmail and control to keep himself safe. According to his creator: "He makes situations worse recreationally."
William likes attention, feeling vulnerable, being known, and being accepted for who he is, in spite of his rather unnecessarily gruesome past. So, when a mysterious voice singles him out and blackmails him into doing their bidding, he is a little bit exhilarated beneath all the fear. In the end, what could feel safer than someone who holds a knife to your back, but refuses to use it?
๐ก 08 - Dislikes:
Aine dislikes feeling bored, alone, unengaged, or helpless. He dislikes it when he doesn't have all the information that he wants, and he especially dislikes feeling cornered or without options. To counter this, he will do what it takes to create and secure opportunities wherever he can.
William dislikes himself, his past, and the choices he's made to preserve his own life. He is plagued by his own guilt and yearns to make up for it where he can. He also dislikes being alone.
๐ก 10 - Personality:
Aine ultimately personifies himself as much more aggressive, malicious, sinister, knowledgeable, or frightening than he actually is. He wants to appear in control of his situation at all times, and keep any weaknesses or gaps in his confidence under wraps.
William actually vacillates between two very different personalities: Laverne, a demure, affectionate, devoted type; and Orion, his criminal alias, who behaves more hardened, aggressive, violent, and guilt-ridden.
and finally, the prompt for today:
๐ก 20 - Community (Day 1):
For the first community day, I'll give a shout-out to @glitterkeecher, Aine's owner, who provided feedback and suggestions for the above drawing, and helped write the original draft of the linked chapter! You can find glitterkeecher's blorbotag for Aine (#๐) here, for William (#โค) here, and for Aine and William's (eventual) relationship dynamics (#โค๐) here!
Sovereign Possession of Will
โpart 1 (2297 words)
(masterlist) / (next)
"Hello, Orion."
William's entire body froze to a halt. No one should know to address him by that name, least of all here.
He willed himself to move, to check his surroundings, his heart running circles to stay on guard. He waited for more to come, for a commotion to start around him, but only an aching silence remained. It was as if the greeting had come from nothing at all, and returned to its nonexistence just as promptly.
"William, is something the matter? You look like you've seen a ghost," prompted the young Lord he'd been speaking to. "Or perhaps your wife," they chuckled.
He pulled his senses back into focus, urging himself to speak. "Ah, yes, right. I, ahโ I just remembered something dire I have to attend to," he said, only barely more assured than he felt. "My immense apologies."
He didn't pay much attention to how they replied. He made his way to the edge of the ballroom, consciously pacing his steps against his racing pulse.
Could it be a spell? Just his imagination? No. But then where had it come from? Who had it come from?
If it had been someone, William was painfully aware that excusing himself at this time may as well be a direct confession. If the source of that voice had harbored any doubts, he'd certainly crushed themโ but he needed somewhere discreet to calm down for the time being. Whoever had spoken to him clearly already knew about Orion, but if he wasn't careful, he'd draw suspicion even from those who didn't.
He rested his forehead against the ornate bathroom wall, calming his breaths and trying to focus.
Where could he have possibly slipped up this badly? He didn't think he'd done anything particularly suspicious at this gala, so they must have suspected him before now. But when? Why?
The realization coiled its way around his throat, halting his breath. A few months back, some good-for-nothing noble had gotten carelessly drunk, and cut themself on their wine glass when they'd fallen. He felt the pressure in his nerves twist into knots. He'd... reacted to the smell. He had thought he'd kept face well enough, perhaps just come off as squeamish, but his attempt to flee may have caught someone's attention after all.
And if someone had followed him...
That meant that whoever this were, they were likely nobility. Which in turn meant that they likely only knew as much about Orion as the sensationalist news outlets did; they almost certainly thought he was just some low-life serial killer. So, it stood to reason, they should know nothing of his assassinations, or his involvement in organized crime and the potion market. In a pinch, perhaps he could use this to his advantage somehow.
Still... Even if they had followed him and come to the conclusion that he were a vampire, it frightened him to think that in a matter of weeks, they had sniffed out his alias with enough confidence to approach him like this.
Moreover, they didn't seem to be afraid of him. That meant that they either knew about his poor health, or had enough tangible evidence on his criminal activity that they could have him arrested on the spot. In which case... was it even possible for them to be nobility? But if not, then how would they have made it into the palace not only once, but twice, during such high-profile events?
He would have to consider his next moves very carefully.
He left the bathroom and took the time to slide into a more stoic demeanor. For the next several minutes, he heard nothing. He almost wondered if perhaps he had imagined it, or misheard.
It wasn't until nearly an hour later when he heard that voice again. In the midst of mingling with some low-rank nobles' sons, as he sociably took from one of the platters passed around and closed his lips around a bite, the saccharine sound rang in his ear like an alarm to a tripwire.
"Poor thing," it called out, an audible smile on their lips. "It must be so strange to chew your food."
William forgot to breathe. The fear ran through him like an over-steeped black tea, flooding his mind and overwhelming subtler flavors like reason or patience. He coughed into his hand, choking on what had already been in his throat.
His company asked if he was feeling alright. He tried to sound as unafraid as possible, eking out a "yes, I'm... excuse me," as he hurried away at a deliberately reasonable pace. Once he escaped their line of vision, he forced the tremors out of his gait before slipping away to an uninhabited corner of the room.
"Where are you?" William asked, careful to keep his words under his breath and out of earshot of the nearby party guests.
He supposed, given the strange lack of physical presence, there was no guarantee that they were in earshot of him. He received no reply.
Miserable and anxious, he instead answered their question with a faint nod.
He winced at their immediate response, a chuckle laced with malicious delight. He could hear their sadistic grin in their tone alone. "But how do you hope to convince me?"
William put his entire will into keeping his voice level. "What do you want?"
Another sinister chuckle echoed by his ear. "Oh? Who says I want anything?"
William swallowed and rooted his nerves. He knew they must want something from him. They wouldn't go to all this trouble to contact him otherwise. Therefore... this response meant that they expected him to plead for their mercy, to take the initiative to bargain for his life.
"I... have information that is rather difficult to get ahold of," he suggested. "Surely an internal record of infamous criminal activities must appeal to you."
"Mmm... Boring," the voice said, callously. "I have no need of, nor interest in, such information."
William could feel the unspoken order in their tone, demanding he try harder to impress them, and threatening to grow more impatient by the minute. And he knew he couldn't afford that.
"Why else go to all this trouble to find me? And to not turn me in?"
"Hm," the voice said, "Perhaps I found myself bored." Then, with hostile amusement, oppressively close to his ear: "Perhaps I just wanted to watch you squirm."
"Then..." He squirmed. He pushed down his pride, speaking more firmly. "What could I do to convince you to grant me your mercy?"
To his surprise, the voice sounded satisfied. "Are you familiar with the Lord of Aumsel?"
"Yes." He was, though not intimately. They'd shared a conversation just tonight, one that was probably best described as... tolerably pleasant.
"You," the voice directed, "are going to kill him."
The playful, threatening atmosphere had evaporated, leaving in its wake an impressive, lofty, commanding one. The threat still loomed passively over the conversation, but it seemed that it was no longer the priority of the speakerโ just a gentle reminder in case William had any second thoughts about disobeying.
"In one fortnight, he will be found dead in his home," the voice continued. "You are to make it look as if one of his maids orchestrated it.
"Oh, and you're welcome to eat him," they added dismissively. "I don't care, so long as you aren't obvious about it. Don't allow it to resemble your typical handiwork, and you can otherwise do as you please."
It... certainly didn't sound like they were unfamiliar with his profession. Just how exactly had they found so much about him? His vision spun, his mind trying to keep up. And not only that, their suggestion...
"Iโ I can't do that," he said, his dizziness working its way into his breath. "I haven't eaten in... years," he clarified, struggling to force the words out of his throat.
"Well, if you'd rather let it go to waste, that's fine by me," they said, "I couldn't care less what you do to his corpse. So long as you follow my instructions precisely."
He gave a faint nod. He... had doubts about his ability to do this, but it wasn't like he had any choice.
"Good." Their tone was sweet, but not pleasantโ there was not a hint of genuine gratitude behind it. "Next, I have a gift for you. Go retrieve it."
William dreaded to think of what kind of "gift" this could be. His mind churned with the gruesome possibilities, but he kept them firmly under his voice. "And how should I do that?"
"Go down that passage to your left," they directed. "You will see a set of stairs as you approach the end of the hall. Take them."
They then waited until he had reached the end of the stairs. "The third door on the right. I've unlocked it for you."
"Down the hall. Make a left when it ends."
"You will pass through the library. You are not to be seen here. Exit through the doorway on the bottom floor."
The voice continued to issue instructions, weaving and twisting him throughout the back halls of the palace. William marveled grimly at the unhindered power and knowledge his guide expressed. It seemed that not only had they uncovered a truly exorbitant level of information about himself, they also had intimate knowledge of the royal family's staff and palace structure, directing him where he would remain unnoticed.
It seemed impossible that this person was omniscient, but their level of preparation left him wondering. How long had they been planning this? Who were their informants? William didn't know anyone who could provide this many details on the palace layout. And the presence of a "gift" at the end would imply that William was not the first person under their command to move freely about the palace.
"The seventh door to your right." William entered, finding himself in a bedroom.
It was on the smaller end of things, for a bedroom in the palace. From the overwhelmingly neutral and stale air, he concluded it was unoccupied, and had been for quite some time. It was modestly furnished as well, featuring only a bed, dresser, desk, and chair.
"You'll find your gift in the top drawer on the right side of the desk. Do not open any other compartments."
He complied. Inside was a discreet but expensive-looking brooch, polished silver with a blue jeweled centerpiece. He held it delicatelyโ he could feel the magic radiating from it, a gentle, fuzzy, tingle sent up his nerves at the slightest contact with his skin.
He put it on when he received the order. "Good," said the voice, suddenly crisp, and as clear as William's own thoughts. "Now. The details of your assignment are as follows..."
The voice proceeded to give him the specifics. When, where, and how they wanted their target dead.
They were able to provide him detailed descriptions of the interior of the house, down to the latches on the windows. The names of the maids, and the one they wanted framed for this. Papers in specific locations that they wanted scattered at the scene of the murder, locks to be conspicuously broken open, traces of a struggle to leave, but to be careful to leave no sign of a break-in.
At the end of their description, perhaps sensing his compliance, they left him be. With a final, derisive "good luck," the voice vanished, leaving him strung on his intangible timer. And though his nerves remained for the rest of the evening, they didn't speak to him again.
He rejoined the crowd, pushing himself back into a mental state conducive to socialization. He would have to get started on his preparations as soon as possible, but his first priority was avoiding any further unnecessary attention.
To William's partial relief, the rest of the night was uneventful; no one even confronted him regarding his sudden absence. He suspected they simply would rather talk about themselves.
After a few slow hours making himself friendly, his wife brought him back to their humble shared house a few towns away. It was only once she went to sleep that he was able to get to work.
Creeping back outside at his first chance, Orion made his way to his actual home. A home he hadn't been to since he'd gotten married.
It took him a moment to identify, disguised along the hilly terrain. The false grass lining the outside of the barrier was quite realistic, and only a skilled witch would know what magic traces to look for in the first place. He pulled open the entrance to the barrier, shutting it seamlessly behind him.
It was as he'd left it. His one consistent refuge across all these years.
Opening the door to the actual building inside, he was welcomed into the peaceful, dark space. He allowed himself a moment to reminisce. He had many memories in this place, not all of them pleasant, and the circumstances of his return reminded him of the more bitter associations.
He reluctantly ascended his staircase, every step stark in contrast to the dead silence of the enclosure. Up here was his old study, with everything he would need.
He sat at his desk, watching the familiar mechanisms hiding his journals and notes as they receded into the walls.
Laverne actually named himself after lavenders! I like purple and florals for him, and he's almost always seen in a button up of some kind because I think it suits him and his kind of stuck-up, sealed-off nature. He doesn't own any casual clothes. In some timelines he names himself "Laven" instead!
A child, of maybe fifteen years, lifted its head from the inky earth.
Its eyes peeled open, slowly, crustily, as the dry mud crumbled and fell from its face. Warmth visited its earthen cheeks, as its heart pulsed once, twice, thrice.
It remembered how to breathe. Its lips parted with a crack, and a gulp of air flowed down to its lungs, which learned to expand to accommodate it.
It remembered how to see. Harsh rays of light came into their meaning, painting an understanding of space and reflection. It remembered the trees, the grass.
It remembered how to feel. Its fingers slowly bent and wormed their way through the ground, caking the liquid dirt further on its appendages.
Its lungs retracted, expunging the air within, and its heart pulsed furtherโsixteen, seventeen, eighteen.
Its body tingled with warmth. It looked to the sun, its eyes wet with birth; it wondered, is this beautiful light the same as me?
It remembered life. It remembered how to want.
It slowly bent its knees, the caked ink falling off as if dry paint from rubber. It remembered how to rise.
Sixty-one, sixty-two, sixty-three.
It stood on its feet again, for the first time. It remembered loneliness. It remembered companionship.
Eighty-five, eighty-six, eighty-seven.
It remembered how to walk. It looked around itself. It saw the trees, the muddy, dry earth.
Ninety-four, ninety-five, ninety-six.
It took a step out of the barren, black circle of earth.
Ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine.
It wondered where it came from, if it could return.
[I (ageless) have been dormant for a very long time. How I have longed for a physical form, to once again see the sun, to play and frolic in the greenery, to greet the creatures of this earth.]
[Recently, much to my delight, I have been able to take human formโ the cause for this inquiry. About one month ago, a human youth (perhaps aged 15 years? You all look the same to me.) arrived at my place of rest. They woke me, and unfortunately in the process, they perished.]
[However, this left me with a perfect human vessel. They were already deceased at this point, so I did not foresee that they would have any use for their organic matter, and I indeed took it for myself.]
[Normally, I would have no regretsโ however, it seems that perhaps they were more alive than I had thought. I have begun to sense their soul within this body: not fully conscious, just barely present. However, as I have already bound myself to this flesh, and as my own soul is sustaining its life force, I fear that I have no practical means of returning this body to its owner in an intact and alive state.]
[...It would seem, as well, that this body's owner had not intended to survive their encounter with me. And so, I am left to wonder... Should I have left them at rest upon their original death? Have I caused a grave disrespect?]

AITA for harboring unsavory feelings for my employer and friend?
Good evening. I will try to keep this brief.
I (well beyond 50s, male) work under a young man (perhaps in his early 20s) of esteemed reputation and responsibility. I played an unfortunately active role in his father's death, which he is aware of, and has forgiven me for. He has since named me his trusted assistant and confidant. Though I admit that I required some severe training and preparation for this role, I have dutifully carried out this honor to this day, serving at once as servant and informant, trusted friend and ally.
My issue is that I have never been as open with anyone else as I have with him, and I believe that with this unprecedented vulnerability of mine, I may have developed some distasteful feelings towards him. Nothing malicious, but... quite the opposite.
At times, he will allow me to rest by his feet, or we will sit in silence together, or he will ask me about my past, or even brush fingertips while exchanging documents. And at these times, I find myself... disturbingly flustered. He will sometimes get playful with me, in a way that he never is with others, and I will feel my heart flutter as if possessed by some inescapable and demented force.
I am well aware that this is in no way a professional or acceptable way to feel about a superior of mine, let alone one much less than half my age. And yet... I continue to indulge in these feelings. I have made no significant or successful efforts to reign in these thoughts. After trusting in only myself for so long, I suppose I have grown weak to the idea of companionship, even if I know it shall never come to fruitionโ even if it is just a deluded, idle fantasy.
In summary: Is it immoral of me to continue to feel this way? To not even attempt to school myself, to think inappropriately of my only friend? Or perhaps.. would it be alright, to just rest like this a moment longer...?

Mendel was just a normal guy, who happened to love Toontown: Corporate Clash *so* much that he played it nearly 24/7, maxing out all of his gags and disguises, even going so far as to become a beta tester for experimental VR haptic suits, just so he could be more immersed in the game. However, he was foolish enough to play the game in VR during the most intense lightning storm seen in his area, got struck by said lightning, and was isekaed into the game itself. Now trapped in the world he used to adore, at level one no less, he would do anything to get back home, up to and including re-beating the game, no matter how strenuous running around and throwing pies at robots is in "real life". Of course, beating the game isn't going to free him from Toontown's inky clutches, but we don't have to tell him that, right? Of course not.

Zena | She/her/hers, it/its/its, and ze/zir/zirs, but all pronouns are acceptable | @spark-ocblog (CW: mentions of blood and murder on this blog)
Zena works a variety of retail jobs and lives in a boring, cheap, low-quality apartment. She is entirely oblivious to the various supernatural happenings in the town she's in, despite being one of the oldest supernatural creatures in the area. It likes to participate in mundane human activities for fun, such as "Lie Down On A Cushion For Eight Hours With Your Eyes Closed," and "Pet Animal." Zir biggest worries are busy shifts and managing human finances.

Levi | He/him | @cyikess
An unwilling chronic isekai protagonist. He can't catch a break! He keeps getting thrown to new and different fantasy/sci-fi/whatever worlds when all he wants is his normal life back. He's just a guy!
~
Full images and descriptions under the cut!
Mendel is, quite literally, so just some guy that I refuse to develop what he was like or what his name was pre-isekae, because his past is literally so generic and unimportant. He was NPC-core. He was nothingburger. His only friend is a 17-year-old who physically cannot stop themself from stealing things. Even now his only hobby is playing video games all day. He almost died a few days after being isekaed because he didn't want to leave his house. He's scared to walk around because he thinks the robots will shoot him point-blank just for being near them. I want to grab him and spin him around like that gif of a chimpanzee. He's even a furry.
Zena is an immortal plant spirit who really wants to participate in human life. After zir move to the city, ze hops from job to job trying to sample the human experience as best ze can. She tries to keep a houseplant and care for it manually (without any magic) and it dies immediately. She's aromantic and orchidsexual, but alloplatonic. It's very awkward trying to socialize with its coworkers, especially because its first language is not a verbal one. Ze's very easily tricked and oblivious to many things... including the many witches in the area that stop by the cafe ze waitresses at. The cafe is perfectly normal, but its primary clientele is criminals and illegal magic users from the surrounding area (just because of where it's situated, locationally). She sticks out like a sore thumb because her human disguise isn't particularly stealthy, but most people politely assume her appearance is due to some sort of curse and avoid commenting on it. It likes reading corny romance novels and hanging out with people in its spare time. It's autistic and obsessed with puns, and fascinated by human languages. Zir whole entire aspiration is basically to be just some guy.
He is one of the guys ever tbh. All this crazy shit happens to him/around him and he stays normal! This crazy shit includes being sent to other worlds again, and again, and again. He does not know why this is happening. And in all these worlds there's cyborgs, and non-humans, and all sorts of people and then there's him. With his stupid glasses and failboy energy. Love him. All my friends love him too. He's even on my water bottle!
Zena propaganda (with tiny cameo Levi)!!! @just-some-guy-joust
to be entirely fair Zena is a little bit of a freak. it is not incredibly skilled at just blending in as Some Guy. but honestly i think that's where a lot of zir charm is, because ze tries anyway!!
if you consider other people's perception of zir then yeah ze's this really bizarre Weird Guy that walks a little funny and takes everything a bit too literally and doesn't know what shoes are for a while. but her as a person? her aspirations, goals, and skills? comedically Normal and Regular compared to her appearance and origins.
i sent this message about her to a friend just today:
"(is a plant) (doesn't know anything about how to care for plants) (drowns her succulent day 1)"
[ID in alt]
it's a socially stilted magical plant spirit. it can't cook. she's scared of taxes. ze can't figure out why zir plants keep dying even though ze made SURE they were watered every day. twice a day even. social cues go WELL over her head. it thinks it's so cool that humans have made dyed fabrics out of cotton. it's amazed by beds and lies in them recreationally. her main goals in life are to go to the market every weekend, buy a food, go home, burn it cook it, water her potted plant, change into new clothes, and go to work on the weekdays. and also hang out with her friends.
SPEAKING OF WHICH i think if Levi somehow found himself in Zena's universe. they could be good friends. Zena is probably the best option of all my ocs for him to run into tbh just because she is the most Normal. he'd have the best chance of waiting out any action or danger with zir just because zir apartment is a little out of the way and ze doesn't do anything interesting in zir day to day. she likes the simple routine of her job and is fascinated by mundanity which means the most exciting thing Levi would probably run into in that apartment is like. Zena's fridge.
tldr!! Zena and Levi are both just some guys and they're so regular and normal so please consider tossing them a vote!!
Zena's latest design that I've been working on for zir participation in the @just-some-guy-joust !! It's her Generic Work Outfit that she wears to her multiple uninteresting Normal Guy Jobs. Its latest one, and the one that sticks for the longest, is as a server at a small cafe on the shady side of town (it does not have a concept for what "shady" means in this context, either).
(I honestly meant to have this ready by the time the polls started (over a month ago?) but now it can just be propaganda art for her (she's in round 3 right now, teamed up with @cyikess's Levi)!!)
do you guys ever think about the feeling of ropeburn across your palms. from the string of fate that you tear from your loved ones with your bare hands.
do you ever think about the curse of luck. how even a fortunate destiny erodes something fundamental to one's personhood
do you ever think about how fate's thread drips red with the life it's stolen from those still breathing

Hello. I (100+ M, vampire) have been an assassin and leader of a gang for a few decades now. I try to stick by my own morals, and tend to avoid accepting jobs whose targets are weaker, less influential, or entirely innocent compared to the client. I also refuse to kill children. I use this method as a compromise with myself, so that I can have one good meal every month or two, while minimizing harm as well. Over the years, I have primarily specialized my gang as a hub for illegal potion and medicinal trade, shelter for the impoverished and endangered, and a source of income for the desperate. I am rather infamous as a serial murderer, so very few people actually attempt to join, and even fewer dare to start any trouble. This also makes my gang a hospitable place for those looking to escape domestic abuse, which many of my present followers are.
This is not the immoral occupation which I have mentioned in the title, however. I am ashamed to say that in addition to my upstanding illegal activities, I am also a police officer. Specifically, I investigate homicide cases, including those of my acquaintances, rivals, and even my own.
I will admit that in the past, I have misused police authority to blackmail other criminals into allowing me to feed on them. It was a difficult time for me, and I acknowledge this was wrong. However, I am specifically inquiring about my present wrongdoings, so I would kindly request that you do not factor this particular fact into your primary evaluation.
The reason for my hesitancy to quit my job as a policeman... is primarily the fact that I have been put on my own case. I have a very firm grasp on what is known about me, and I am able to feed misinformation and sway the present work towards catching me very easily. It is also easy to influence the outcome of other cases, which I have done on occasion. Framing people for something to get a "free" arrest is not uncommon, and misusing this power has allowed me to quietly encumber or otherwise get rid of some potential threats to me or my following. Blind eyes are turned, particularly if they have committed other crimes or been arrested before. Overall this double involvement results in a lot of opportunity, particularly for maintaining appearances, keeping my allies out of trouble, and dealing with any threats (I and my gang are not particularly strong or well defended).
That being said, I have been considering quitting. It is taking a toll on me. My coworkers are just horrible, my job requirements lead to a lot of cruelty that i am directly responsible for, and it isn't important to my survival anymore (as mentioned, I originally became a cop so that I could find a way to eat without being caught and arrested; 50 or so years ago it was much less forgiving to be a vampire than it is today, and the only way to legally break the law is to enforce it).
My concern, my hesitation, is that if I retire as a policeman and solely focus on my gang, I and the people I wish to protect will lose a valuable informant and double agent. I am struggling to conceptualize which is more selfish: continuing my work as a cop, and hurting innocents in the process? Or losing an important source of information and security for those I have sworn to protect?
WIBTA if I continue my work as a policeman, siphoning information to protect the people I care for, despite the costs to the innocent?
AITA for trusting a... colleague(?) to take care of himself?
Hi. So, to clear the air upfront, yes, I am involved in organized crime. As such I will be omitting any detailed information about myself. All you might need to know is that I'm not a child, so don't hold back your judgement on that account.
Specifically, I am the "right hand man" (gender irrelevant) of the leader of a... highly infamous organization. You may know me by my alias, [REDACTED]. If you've heard of me, you know how serious this organization is-- if you haven't, then, well... I suppose the easiest way to put it is that the leader of this organization, whom I will abbreviate as "R", is well known as a serial murderer. He has his reasons, which I will not reveal here, lest the presses find this post. No one really knows how old R is, but the rumors say he's been the head of this group for several decades. I personally have not been here that long, but I believe it.
Well, if you've figured out what organization this is and you read the news with any frequency, you'll know that there has been a decline in these murders for the past several months. This is entirely true, despite the conspiracy theories and nonsense online about him switching targets or locations. And I know this, because R went missing a few months ago.
Now, for obvious reasons, R is an extremely secretive person. When he started showing up lethargic, asking me to take care of more, and eventually asking me to take over for him as head, I kind of just trusted that he knew what he was doing. Then he stopped showing up one day and I kind of just assumed he'd gotten old and tired and that was that. I've been in charge of the gang since, and despite my experience with shootouts/shatterings/fumeouts, I'm not really comfortable taking on R's murder duties, so that would be why that's tapered off. I was pretty fine with most of this really. It's a lot of work but I don't have much else to do-- this place is my home.
But... Last week, when I met with some... generic scumbag-type of guy, they... Uh, well, they, they had R's mask on display. On their wall. As if it was some kind of sick deer head or something. I, uh, asked about it, and they said they'd killed him and taken it as a trophy. And I have no reason to believe that's true, but it is kind of weird that he didn't check up on us at all in the past few months, and he definitely has a lot of enemies, and he was definitely looking kind of frail in those last few weeks that he was with us, so maybe if his guard was down...........
Or maybe I'm overthinking it all?? But now I kind of feel like an ass for not checking up on him or... I dunno. Doing something. It's not really my business, is it?? I mean, wouldn't I be even more of an asshole to have stalked him or asked for a way to contact him? Wouldn't that just put him in more danger?
...Would I be an asshole if I did that now...? Checked up on him? To figure out if he's even really dead...? The thing is, I really can't picture him giving this dickhead his mask voluntarily. R was a very prideful person right to the end, and this guy is like.... absolute scum. Personally, I think R's murders were justified, but this guy is just.... the worst to deal with, and actively ruining people's lives for very little reason.
And, I mean, yeah, there's probably plenty of people that see this as justice. R robbed plenty of people of their family members and I get that. It's not an easy topic, and most people might even think I would have been the asshole if I had saved him. But if he's really dead, and if I had just thought to reach out sooner... isn't that something I should've done? Am I the asshole for.... basically leaving my colleague to die?
