“We just… Summarize a bit in our report. Y’know, leave out the whole bit about us having to ask for help from children.” Even then Warp was over-simplifying. The case had really been that Warp had taken to heckling a gaggle of ruffian teenagers for information. It had proven itself a useful tactic in the end– the local smuggler was employing teen labor –but it was still a grievous step outside of Space Ranger conduct.
“It’ll save us work in the end, anyway. Then we can get to the fun stuff.” ‘The fun stuff’ being the aforementioned reconnaissance. “What kind of case do you think they’ll hand us this time, eh, Buzz? I hope we have to visit a hot vacay spot as tourists again.”
“Well then, what do you suppose we’ll tell the Commander when he asks for our leads then? Since they’ll be missing from our report.” Lightyear was in no way convinced, he was merely humoring Darkmatter for the remaining minutes until they reached the station. “You know what the consequences are for fraudulent reports.”
Lightyear sighed once more, narrowing his eyes. “That’s not the point of recon, Warp, and don’t switch the subject on me -- if we turn in contradicting details it will be bad for both of us. Let’s review what we’re going to write, shall we?”
