I know President Clinton said some similar things during his time in office.  The difference between the two, when Clinton said it I can remember some vocal opposition.  I remember radio guys like Mancow opposing it because of the tax drain it would cause.  Granted there was probably more opposition, but you didn’t hear much.  The internet hadn’t taken hold yet, and we weren’t as connected to instant information like we are now.  When Barack Obama said this, crickets... nothing.
