Most relatable Hillary has ever been to me is during this debate when she’s holding back her incredulous laughter that Trump is the joke of a candidate she’s debating right now.
FMLS90 Day 1!
Hi Everyone!
My name is Stefanie, aka spaceinyerface. 😊
(That’s me on the right. The handsome dude is my husband, Zach)
When I first started, my blog was basically a runblr. Really, it was more of an Internet training log but pretty soon I started finding other tumblrs who embraced me and encouraged me as I trained for my first full marathon. That lead to discover healthblr and fitblrs and slowly my blog morphed into more of a healthblr than anything else. Then, a little less than a year ago, I got really sick and had to be hospitalized (more on that here, if you're interested) which led to getting diagnosed with lupus. Getting sick has really thrown a wrench into my whole life, not to mention my fitness, and I have been struggling to find my balance again. I'm hoping that this is going to be just the kick start I need! 😄
GOALS - Drink at least 85 oz of water every day - Exercise 5 days a week - Run at least 70 miles each month - Secondary goal of breaking 100 miles in one month - Track my food and drink every day - No more than 3 alcoholic drinks per week. (That's the total number of drinks. Not the number of days I am allowed to have drinks. I have to be very clear about his now because Future Stefanie can be a sneaky bitch sometimes. 😁) - Run Hood to Coast at the end of August and feel good about my performance. - GET OFF PREDNISONE (This one isn't up to me, unfortunately but maybe by putting it out there, I can somehow MAKE it happen alá The Secret)
CHAMPIONS My biggest, best and most favoritest champion is my husband, Zach. He is my best friend, my running coach, my cheerleader and my personal trainer all rolled into one. I can use him to help me succeed because he loves and believes in me, he wants me to succeed AND he knows me and my illness well enough to be able to tell when I need to be pushed and when I really just need to rest. And I am really hoping that all of you guys will be my champions too! I really hope that by supporting and encouraging each other, we will all be able to be successful. (I'm also still looking for my Accountability Buddy, if anybody still needs one. 😁)
CHALLENGES My biggest challenge is learning how to handle my disease. The medication I am on not only slows my metabolism, it also causes me to feel super hungry pretty much all the time. I have put on 25 pounds since I got sick even though I have still been eating (mostly) well and exercising regularly. (Granted, I wasn't really allowed to work out very much for the first four or five months, and I'm still not active as I used to be but I am also not sitting on the couch stuffing my face every day either.) It also causes bouts of extreme fatigue sometimes, which definitely makes getting motivated to work out more difficult. And I have to be careful because MOST of the time I'm just tired, and sometimes it's just good old lupus fatigue but my lupus occasionally causes me to have hemolytic anemia so SOMETIMES it's because I don't have enough blood in my body and if they don't catch it soon enough I could end up back in the hospital. It sounds scarier than it really is, though. Really, like 90% of the time I'm just sleepy or whatever and the really scary thing has only really happened the one time but believe me when I say once was enough to make me paranoid about it for the rest of my life. Honestly, I don't really know what to do about this one, other than just getting better at living with lupus. When I first got sick my rheumatologist warned me that it would probably take about a year and half to two years to get my meds dialed in so I'm hoping that things are going to get better here soon. My second biggest challenge is ME, if I'm being totally honest. I get so frustrated with my lack of progress that I end up making bad choices because it feels I'm like "if I'm going to gain weight anyway, I might as well have a damn donut" which is just THE MOST counterproductive thing EVER but I keep doing it anyway. I'm going to combat this by only weighing myself once a month, rather than weekly, and by focusing on non-scale victories instead.
Wow, that was really super long so thanks for sticking with me. See you all tomorrow! 😄

I have 14 meetings scheduled for Monday…
That is just an unacceptable number of meetings. I literally can't even

I MADE IT! Okay, so first things first: I am so incredibly proud of myself. It's been over a year since my last half marathon and this is my first one since I got sick and was diagnosed with lupus. Crossing this finish line was a big goal for me and it feels great to finally be able to take this part of my life back. That being said...this race was kind of the worst. Honestly friends, I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I decided that running a half marathon that starts at 5pm at the end of July would be a good idea. In a turn of events that I am sure surprises no one who thought about it for more than 30 seconds, it turns out that prepping for a race that starts so late in the day is REALLY hard. I mean, you can sleep in which is totally awesome but trying to eat enough that you don't bonk mid race but not so much that you get sick is a very tricky line to walk. (One I totally failed, btw. The day after the race and my tummy is still a little iffy.) Plus, I just prefer running in the morning so I really don't know why I ever this race was a good idea. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not surprisingly, this race was a lot tougher than I had anticipated. I know that the heat and racing so late in the day both contributed to overall difficultly, but it was also kind of a poorly run race on top of it. One big group of runners (not us, thank the sweet baby Jesus) didn't get directed to turn when they should have and as a result, ended up running TWO EXTRA MILES. Now two miles may not seem like a lot by itself but when you consider that that made it a 15 mile race instead of 13, I mean I am just saying I am pretty sure I would have cried. Plus, the race course was supposed to be a flat, fast, out and back it it was none of those things. I mean, it was a lollipop shape so that's KIND OF an out and back and it was probably 70% flat but there were two separate GIANT hills that went for almost a damn mile each AND the course took you right past the dump and multiple homeless camps. Just a really charming course all together. 🙄 On top of all of that, the race organizers were super disorganized. The race started 15 minutes late, there weren't even close to enough ports potties, volunteers were still setting up mile markers as we were running the course, AND there was no water or bananas or anything like that at the finish line. So yeah, probably won't run that race again. But you know what? I still finished a half marathon and that totally freaking ROCKS. 😄💪🏼🏆👣
Ready for my first half since I got sick! 😄💪🏼👣 #runningwithlupus #werunpdx #runhappy #runlikeagirl
I would like you all to meet my daughter, Jeneva.

Why yes, I have watched three seasons of Silicon Valley in three days. DON'T JUDGE ME. 😁
Zach has been in New Orleans at a conference since last Friday which is a fully two days longer than our 3 day max but he finally gets home tomorrow and can I just tell you I AM GOING TO SNUGGLE THE CRAP OUT OF THAT GUY.
Hi Everyone!
So I know this is a long shot because I don’t think I’m friends with too many PNWers on Tumblr but I’m desperate so here goes nothing!
Our Hood to Coast team is in need of one more volunteer to dedicate 4-6 hours on August 26 or 27. This relay race spans 36 hours, starting at Mt. Hood and goes all the way to Seaside, Oregon and depends on thousands of volunteers.
If you volunteer for us, you will be an official member of our team, Where My Beaches At. You’ll get to experience a seriously awesome race, get a cool team shirt and come to our fun pre and post race parties! 🎉 Plus we will love you forever (and there’s also the part where we will be disqualified if we don’t provide 3 volunteers so that’s no good)
More information of what’s involved in volunteering or the different types of jobs they have, you can check out the website at: http://www.hoodtocoastrelay.com/volunteer
Please let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested!
My lovely west coast friend @spaceinyerface tagged me for a SDS! So here I am, at the gym. I’ve done approximately 4 things today: grocery shop, food prep, nap, and binge watch Netflix. So I thought I should probably go pump de iron.
I’m tagging some of my triathlete heroes: @lagirlontherun @splashmashanddash @emilydoesscience @lindsayisfindingflow @chrisontherun @kcowgill and anyone else who loves the swim-bike-run!
Haha! Awesome! I've done basically those same four things, except without the shopping or the food prep. Yeah, I've only napped and netflixed today. Don't judge me. 😁
Anybody else find themselves doing extra push-ups after watching American Ninja Warrior? 😁

I just wanted to remind you that a fitness journey includes bad days, and good days. Fitblr's may look perfect, because they are our own inspiration. I also have bad days, heck I've had many lately but I won't give up and neither should you.
SDS for @spaceinyerface!
Today is my dad’s 66th birthday so I just finished slicing the ice cream cake. 🎂
Everyone in my family is food/weight conscious to some degree, and at least one person will complain about how much food we/they eat at every meal, yet they don’t look at labels to see how big serving sizes are. I try to get ahead of that noise by pre portioning what food I can.
The cake, for example, is six servings. If it hit the table whole I know my dad would probably eat half and than goad me into eating the rest. This way nobody will go to bed with a stomachache. 🔪
Okay first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHERINE'S DAD!! 🎉🎂💜
Second, you look ADORABLE 😍
Third, thank goodness you explained what you were doing because for a second I was afraid you had just murdered a unicorn or something. 😁😳🦄
Fourth, that is such a smart way to take control of the situation!
Fifth, I've run out of things to say. 😂
