What, this again?

taika is pretty much the perfect bloke to be writing this movie. everything he’s done so far has been amazing and relateable. (want a good māori film he’s done? watch boy) if anyone can do a respectful, nuanced and informed portrayal of the subject, it’s taika. 

b/c a lot of mentally ill and/or neurodivergent folks are friends or family w/ or in a relationship w/ others w/ mental illness or disability/ies

and no we cannot always help our friends/partners/family/etc. the way we’d like to b/c we have to take care of ourselves first and there’s nothing wrong w/ that

but b/c of this, whenever i see posts saying shit like “if you’re not there for your mentally ill and/or neurodivergent friends all the time, then you’re a horrible person!!!!” i feel like complete fucking shit when i shouldn’t have to for making sure that my own mental health is under control

so this post is for mentally ill and/or neurodivergent folks—you come first

take care of yourself first

don’t sacrifice your own mental well being to take care of someone else

b/c you aren’t help to anyone if you’re not doing well
