It’s weird to think that nighttime is the natural state of the universe and daytime is only caused by a nearby, radiating ball of flame.

But nighttime is a status applied to a location on a planet that is facing away from any nearby star, and most planets are near enough to a star to have some form of daytime. There are billions of radiating balls of flame in just the milky way alone, and many of them have orbiting planets. That means there are billions on daytimes happening right now, and nighttimes too! It doesnt sound so default anymore when you think about it like that.
