through yaoi anything is possible
hii so my work fucked me over and didn't give me any hours the coming week so if anybody would like to commission me I'd really appreciate it <3
^my cat for those of you who aren't interested, special treat :)<3
He let out a yelp, unable to anticipate the sudden blunt force that knocked him to the ground. His wings spread out as if to catch his fall, only succeeding in tangling him further in his own body. He couldn't get it together enough to even scramble away, his legs, his whole body failing him as he finally caught sight of the monster baring down on him.
Raphael froze up completely, his eyes widened as he took in the sheer size of it all.. The scar.. those creepy, annoyingly endeared to him eyes.. The pile of weapons. All barely illuminated by his own body.. Rex could practically smell the preylike scent as if there were smoke coming from his angel, as if the gears in his mind were grinding to a halt, confused by the sudden, familiar fear... And completely at his mercy.
His chest heaved, his breath catching in his throat- not again- never again- his instincts practically screamed at him to run. But his body stayed frozen solid. The tail behind him would only flick him right back into place as he tried. Raphael was far too weak to run, especially not now; not after Rex had become his only solace from this same nightmare that seared his body full of scars.
The fear in Raphael's eyes would've been enough to cause Rex to back off, usually. But the smell. Instinct took over and Rex heaved one of its big paws up, resting it on Raphael's chest and pinning him to the ground. It could squish him easily, but despite pinning him, the dragon didnt seem interested in hurting him. Playing with his food perhaps? Or maybe he was aware of his strength.
It wouldn't be possible for Raphael to wiggle free, not with how weak he is. The dragon moved closer, its giant snout in the angel's face. Teeth came into view and with them, hot, steamy breath like the inside of an oven.
"Rrr-" It growled at him. "Raaβ¦Raaaaphhhael."
Its voice was low, so low it was more felt than heard. But there was something familiar to it, in the way it lazily slurred its word.
Raphael had always been rather short tempered.. his fuse was a long chain of events that always boiled down to fear. To a certain point, he couldn't help it. He'd always been this way, it was a facet that he'd been programmed with a long time ago. It had been stoked relentlessly by his former employer, if one could call the fake entity such a thing. This had faded, but the remnants still held fast to the angel.
Ever since they'd met, Raphael had always found Rex to be a thorn in his side. A perfect match to his puddle of gasoline. Over time they'd softened, sure... But he hadn't discarded himself so easily as Rex might have thought.
Raphael's brows furrowed, his face twitching just slightly as the overgrown reptile bared his teeth at him, just the faintest bit.
That twitching was the only warning Rex had before his fear melted and boiled over in the face of familiarity. Rex was greeted with that oh so nostalgic picture of his angel, angry as ever and completely subject to his every whim.
"DAMMIT REX- YOU STUPID- OVERGROWN- LIZARD- " he huffed and puffed, his wings flaring at every accessible angle as he thrashed around under his talons.
"YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY!?- I SHOULD KICK Y- " Raphael gasped, coughing and hacking on his own words as he grew tongue tied in his attempts at insulting the beast that had pinned him to the dirty floor. It was almost funny, like one of those cat toys that flailed and chirped in the hopes of tempting it to pounce on it. Raphael, however, was quite securely pinned, no matter how hard he yelled and thrashed around underneath him.
Rex could feel his feathers bristling against his back as he described it. It sounded like the office had gotten another sort of virus about it... Despite all his time here he still didn't fully trust anyone outside the family group he'd bonded too, virus or not.
"You did well," he spoke plainly, very matter of fact about it... It explained why Rex had considered him for a few seconds before lowering the knife... If something like that ever refined it's mimicry.... Raphael thought on it a moment before he spoke again, lowly, as if wary he'd be overheard.
"We should develop some sort of code with the kids.. just in case. Have you checked on Malachi yet?"
More tension bled out of Rex as Raphael reassured him - he did do what he had to do. If he had more time to think about it, he would've been more hesitant to kill something that looked like a child. He acted with his best judgement, but that didn't mean he didn't have doubts.
Rex refused to think about what could've been if it had been better at pretending to be his children.
"A code is a great idea. As long as it cant read minds, it would protect the kids from unnecessary trouble."
He left it unspoken that this unnecessary trouble might be their fathers killing them instead of the imposter by mistake.
"I looked into his room but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Why? You wanna check with me again?"
Truth be told Rex was itching to run back to the rooms and make sure everyone was alright. Coda had been awake when he checked and Rex trusted them to make some noise if anything happened but his paranoia was slowly going into overdrive.
Raphael took a deep breath, staring down at the half finished food in front of him before pushing it away. He wasn't in the habit of clearing his dishes, since they'd reset next midnight. Even though it was certainly past midnight now and they'd sit there until tomorrow.
"Yeah, might as well," he responded with a huff as he got out of the seat.. His wing didn't leave Rex for a moment though, even while he stretched a little.. Raphael really did seem sick almost...
He hadn't been sleeping much as it was, in addition to the drain that had taken it's toll on him. But he didn't show that it bothered him, save for the new mannerisms and the slight change in his tone. He'd adjusted to being half awake all the time now...

The sound of something metal falling, probably multiple of them. That was certainly his husband alright. Why he wouldn't answer his calling was... suspicious. Raphael worried there was something wrong as he quickly descended the stairs, one step after another, not very quietly.. He was a fairly large person, and he wasn't at his best form anymore...
"Rex? Did something else happen?" Raphael decided to call again into the darkness of the basement again, looking for a light along the wall or something- His hardlight body only glowed dimly down here. It didn't do much for looking for his missing husband. He felt well enough to handle himself against whatever might be wrong with him this time. Even if it was that bastard virus in his husband's body again.
Rex stayed where he was, so still he might've been mistaken for a statue. He recognized the voice in his animalistic haze, as his mate. But at the same time his now actual lizard brain categorized him as prey as well. What he was going to end up doing to Raphael was a mystery until the angel got there.
Rex remained silent in the shadows until the door opened. The moment his eyes caught sight of his husband his powerful tail whipped the door shut and knocked the angel over.
It moved faster than one can blink, towering over the fallen angel in a second. Its breath was hot and dry as it regarded Raphael, maybe pondering if he wanted to eat him.
The dragon was not immediately recognizable as Rex but if Raphael managed to look closely, he might've been able to notice the familiar dull blue eyes and the faint scar of his name, etched onto the dragon's chest.
He let out a yelp, unable to anticipate the sudden blunt force that knocked him to the ground. His wings spread out as if to catch his fall, only succeeding in tangling him further in his own body. Raphael was wandering the office now, up and looking for Rex.. He had some further questions about that odd mimic- But the man was almost nowhere to be found- Raphael was almost at the point of giving up and trying later, when he found the door that descended down to the boiler room.
"Rex? " he called down the stairs, half not expecting a single word back while he slowly walked into the darkening room.
There wasn't a response, not a verbal one. The giant dragon shifted as it heard a familiar voice, and that tiny movement caused some of the knives from its pile to clatter noisily to the floor.
It would definitely be heard from where Raphael was walking.
The dragon didn't react to the noise. It stayed where it was, seemingly asleep but very aware of the sounds outside its lair.

Even if it was that bastard virus in his husband's body again.
"No.. talking in your sleep or something? " Raphael subtly asked back.. Rex could try that all he liked, but showing up with a knife in his hand was a dead giveaway.
He watched Rex as he warmed up his food again.. It was sweet, even if Raphael would have just finished it cold. It had been a tiring couple of weeks, even as he seemed to have finally stabilized out at a lower energy.. He wasn't as much bedbound all the time... Like whatever had been doing it had caught on to Rex knowing of it's presence...
"Thanks, " he mumbled, resuming with a spoonful of soup that he blew lightly on before putting it into his mouth.. Raphael stretched his wing out invitingly, silently offering Rex the chance to indulge in the comfort... He knew better than anyone how much of a sucker his husband was for the softness of his feathers.
Raphael still didn't pry though, comfortable enough now that Rex could keep his secrets if he wanted. If it was a real threat to their family, he'd be let in on it. Raphael had grown to trust him to at least have their combined interests at heart, deep down.
"Not exactly." Was all Rex said at first. He busied himself with the soup, until it was warm and ready to be served. Exhaustion had given away to exasperation and he knew that he had to stop beating around the bush. The sooner Raphael knew, the safer they all were.
He didn't know how well Raphael could fight, given his state, but just having another pair of watchful eyes would be useful.
Rex set down the bowl in front of him and was pleased when he started eating again, taking the silent invitation to sit underneath his husband's wing. Raphael knew him too well, just being surrounded by those beautiful, warm feathers was enough to cheer him up a little. Enough to start the conversation, at least.
"Have you seen anything weird around here, angel? Or heard anything off? Especially around the kids?"
His wing curled easily around Rex's slender form, a nice distraction for the moment at least.. What he'd seen earlier must have rattled him pretty badly if Raphael could tell this quickly.
As he asked the question Raphael sighed a little, shaking his head.. It was tiring dealing with everything this office threw at them... even when he used to be at his best.
"There's always something off around here.. Mal's been a bit odd about his tv lately I guess... Won't let me put on anything for him anymore. Figure its just his sense of independence kicking in... "
"The TV, huh?" Rex frowned, remembering the hum of static the mimic brought with it. It...was that something? Or was he just being extremely paranoid?
"Well something's even more fuckin off than usual." Rex leaned into the feathery hug, closing his eyes. It was working like a charm.
"I was woken up earlier tonight by some strange sounds. Thought at first it was one of the kids coming into bed with me after a nightmare, yknow how it is. But the...thing that opened the door wasn't one of ours. It sounded like Seven, like it was tryna mimic her but its form.... Wasn't good enough."
He could still hear it scream in her voice and he tried not to imagine what it would have looked like if it really had been her. If he had been mistaken and...
Rex fought the urge to jump up and check Seven's room again.
"I took care of it." He said darkly. "It's gone now. Made a lot of noise, woke up Coda. Seven's still asleep though. I checked on her afterwards."
Rex could feel his feathers bristling against his back as he described it. It sounded like the office had gotten another sort of virus about it... Despite all his time here he still didn't fully trust anyone outside the family group he'd bonded too, virus or not.

"There's always something off around here.. Mal's been a bit odd about his tv lately I guess... Won't let me put on anything for him anymore. Figure its just his sense of independence kicking in... "
Malachi felt a gentle tug at his blanket by something that felt like tv fuzz.
"Maa--lachi. Maall-y wake up. I hea--rd something ba-d. Outside..ee. It was lo--ud! Wake up.. Y-ou should lock the d0or!"
Mal had been sleeping, since it was late at night.. He was completely unaware of the disturbing scene just down the hall from his room... Before the voice woke him up in the middle of a sweet dream.
He stirred awake far too quickly for a child of his age, already alert from from the tone the screen voice took with him.
"Daddy says I should only lock the door when I'm in trouble... " he mumbled, picking anxiously at the scales on his hands.. Momo could see, if it couldn't hear the hesitation.... Malachi had been told very firmly that he was only to lock the door in emergencies, or when he got to be a whole ten years old.. Raphael might be mad at him if he locked it now...
"Bu--t you C0ULD be.. in troub-le! Mnnnn..."
The little face on the screen glanced around, flickering a bit in alarm. It was being truthful- there could be something or someone out there with malicious intent... that scream sounded nasty. But also, it could feel something like itself dying in the other room over...
It wasn't sure what the apparition was doing at the time of exorcism- it's not connected to them like that. They're not even a hivemind, it's just... it kind of knew.
"I don't know whh--4t it was.. It sounded really b4-d, Malachi..-"
It didn't want to be found out like this.
Malachi fidgeted a moment longer, stressed out while he tried to think of something... His friend was worried.. And Raphael had really impressed on him how important it was that Raphael could reach him in case something bad had happened...
He finally decided on something, grabbing the chair from his room.. It wasn't one suited to him, but Raphael used it often to sit by his bed when he wanted a story. Mal propped it up haphazardly against the door, not technically locking it, but blocking the entrance off semi effectively.
"Is that good? Safe now?" he asked, looking at the television screen until it hurt his eyes a little and he had to glance towards a darker corner of the room.

Raphael could tell that something was up.. But clearly Rex was too tired to say yet... As much as he wanted to push it, he wasn't in the mood to exert that much energy on something he'd find out about anyways...
"Couldn't sleep again..." he mumbled in that same monotone of his.
His wing extended as Rex sat down next to him, cupping his body in soft feathers.. He could do that much, at least.
"It was warm a few minutes ago.."
Rex leaned into his husband's wing, grateful for the warmth it provided. It was a welcome distraction for a moment. He brushed his hand against the feathers, admiring how they glint. No matter how often he sees them, he can't help be enamored by his angel's pretty wings.
"Yeah, I figured. Did something wake you up or...?" He tried to be subtle in asking if Raphael heard anything. No need to alarm him right away.
"Here, lemme." Rex got up and grabbed the soup, walking towards the kitchenette to warm it up. Opening the microwave door, he peered inside for a second to make sure no one had been exploding batteries in there recently. Then he popped the soup in for a minute, until it was warm enough to eat.
"No.. talking in your sleep or something? " Raphael subtly asked back.. Rex could try that all he liked, but showing up with a knife in his hand was a dead giveaway.

Malachi had been told very firmly that he was only to lock the door in emergencies, or when he got to be a whole ten years old.. Raphael might be mad at him if he locked it now...
Raphael was awake again. He'd found himself entirely unable to sleep much, now that he'd been feeling better. He sat at the counter in the communal kitchen, eating some canned chicken soup. He'd heated it up, but it was lukewarm now, only halfway through eating it.
Rex wanted to grab a glass of water, as cold as he could get it, to shake off the feverish heat of his skin. He could still feel the blood of the mimic burning him, along with the unpleasant hazy feeling of being trapped in a nightmare. Some cold water would wake him up further.
He heard Raphael before he saw him and instinctively reached for his knife, still tucked away under his shirt.
That's how he made his presence known, standing in the middle of the room, knife in hand, staring down his soup-eating husband.
Raphael turned his head slowly, assuming Rex had noticed he was up.. He was probably concerned, considering he'd been sick not too long ago...
Upon seeing him though...
Raphael's wings bristled, his feathers rustling as his wings spread out slightly.. His eyes widened a little too, staring at his husband...
He was still sticky with blood.. Or- maybe it was just his imagination- Raphael froze up, unmoving, glancing between the knife and Rex's face...
"... happened to you?" his voice failed him on th first word, and sounded hoarse from disuse... His voice cracked slightly, giving him pause to rub at it..
It took longer than it should for Rex to realize that this was actually his husband, not a mimic. But for a second...
Rex's grip tightened around his blade, searching. He didn't move either and if Raphael would've started towards him, he might've been tempted to attack.
Then, slowly, the tension bleeds out of him. His face goes slack and his hand drops down, knife by his side. He doesn't put it away. Not yet.
"...nightmare." Rex lied. He glanced down at his skin, but the blood had vanished alongside with the mimic. "Why're you up?"
He walked cautiously over to Raphael, still eyeing him for a second before he let himself sink into one of the chairs. It wasn't as if he didn't trust Raphael with the truth, he would tell him soon enough. But suddenly the idea of explaining to him that he had killed something that screamed like Seven felt too exhausting for him.
"Are you...are you eating cold soup? Why? Do you want me to warm it up for you?"
Raphael could tell that something was up.. But clearly Rex was too tired to say yet... As much as he wanted to push it, he wasn't in the mood to exert that much energy on something he'd find out about anyways...

Buddy atleast have some cheezits too
"Cheezits don't go with cereal idiot- "
poor neglected little angel, you look like you couldn't defend yourself if your life depended on it
"What's that supposed to mean," he growled at the anon.
"I'm perfectly capable of defending myself and my family."
