“There was a time when you knew me better than anyone on earth,” Sousuke reminds both himself and Rin. Then, for their combined benefit: “Clearly that time has passed.”

Rin laughs at him, wicked and confident. “Whatever you need to tell yourself.” His expression softens, a poisonous flower of pity. “It must be hard to cope with lying to everyone for years and still being so bad at it.”

Sousuke disarms him with one mere half-smile. “You’re not going to make me mad enough to fuck you, Rin. Save it for the men that don’t know you.”

Rin looks angry enough to do something far worse than break Sousuke’s heart all over again, but Sousuke doesn’t cower. It’s not that Rin is all bark and no bite; he can keep his teeth dug in someone for years and Sousuke is living proof of that.

However, time has passed. No matter how badly Sousuke tried to cling to the memories, he had no choice but to move on.

Sousuke says, “You’ve lost your advantages over me and you have lost your mind if you think I’m going to let you go on a tirade with no consequences.” His nostrils flare. “Just because I want Gou’s wedding to work out does not mean I will placate you. I didn’t do it when we were younger and I won’t do it now.”

He’d planned on maintaining all the control in this confrontation but of course, he can never anticipate Rin. Sousuke didn’t prepare for the worst possible outcome of this moment: Rin listening. Rin, flushed with rage and tightened fists, not denying the accusation in Sousuke’s tone.

Rin always thought worse of himself than anyone else could. Sousuke wants to curse the universe - why did that have to be the thing that never changed?

It makes Sousuke falter and Rin gives him a challenging once-over. Rin sighs, “I see you’re still masquerading as the reasonable one.” He checks his nails with an unimpressed shake of his head. “It makes me fucking sick.”

“I’m not playing these games,” Sousuke says firmly.

Rin chuckles. “Do you think I’m joking, baby?” He smiles languidly, hair catching at the side of his lips, and something burns through Sousuke. He tries to call it hate but that’s not what it is; his body only reacted like this when Rin was giving him that same daring smile while riding him into the mattress.

Sousuke feels light-headed in the surge of memories, of feeling so wanted as Rin’s body cinched tight around him from within. I’m so easy for you, Rin would slur as Sousuke fucked him open, pounding pleasure into every vein of him. I’m so fucking easy for you, you could have anything from me -

Sousuke stalks into him and Rin’s hips hit the counter with a grunt. With his hands clenching the marble on either side of Rin, Sousuke grits, “I’m not doing this. Not with you and that god-awful attitude I just wanna…” He swallows thickly.

Their eyes lock. One of Sousuke’s legs is tangled between Rin’s knees. Their fingers brush on the counter, their skin hot. He feels Rin’s hardened nipples when their chests graze. Sousuke’s teeth ache, he salivates.

Rin says, “You just wanna what?” He lifts his chin and some hair slips from his ponytail. It looks so satiny, smells like cherry blossoms. Sousuke wants to bury his fingers in it and tug the way Rin always liked, then he wants to rest his nose there afterwards. “Say it, Sousuke…”

Fuck. Rin is so exaggerated with the syllables, taking as much time as he wants with Sousuke’s name in his mouth.

Sousuke’s lips part and Rin watches his tongue. “It doesn’t matter, Rin.”

Rin notices the way Sousuke cannot escape the emotion of speaking his name.

“Yes it does,” Rin retorts. He’s got so much energy to argue, meanwhile Sousuke’s legs are wavering. How he misses sinking to his knees and letting the day go with Rin buried in his throat. It’s almost impossible to resist the urge right now with Rin’s voice getting warm and heavy. “Are you threatening me with harm or a good time?” A tremble of anticipation ricochets in Rin’s chest. “Both?”

The air tingles. His breath fans Sousuke’s lips and it would be so easy to melt in his arms. Rin’s never been afraid to get in his face and nobody has been so brave ever since. At any point throughout these lonely years, Sousuke would have let him close. It wouldn’t have mattered what life he settled into; no loyalty could conquer his addiction to this.

“I’d never make it that easy for you,” Sousuke says mockingly. His tone leaves chills on Rin’s arms, his throat contracting. “But I’ll tell you one thing, sweetheart.”

He isn’t sure which one of them dips forward just a little. Neither move back.
