It was a cool webseries with lore and characters that got pretty well-written from the middle of it to the end, that inspired loads of young teens to be creative and get into art and writing and character design in ways they never would have before, and I bet in 10 years people will be nostalgia-posting about it like crazy. Like I GET why people think of it as a cringe thing from 2020/2021, especially if you weren’t into it at the time, but I feel like the criticism was too harsh for the actual thing itself. I have and always will think that using a super accessible medium as a canvas for creativity and storytelling while operating within and appreciating its confines is super cool and admirable, and I’ll never agree with people diminishing that to ‘grown men roleplaying’. I don’t think people should be ashamed of their genuine passion and creativity, especially the younger people involved with the fandom who cringe at their old art and writing. The DreamSMP and the fandom surrounding it was very prominent and relevant art of its era that says a LOT about the early 2020s, and I think it’s pretty elitist and a bit ignorant to say otherwise.
