Jason: Honestly?

Here’s what we know:

Rayla says her parents aren’t dead. That means they didn’t find their bodies, and they didn’t go home. Rayla lived with Ethari and Runaan after she lost her parents.

Rayla assumes that, because they didn’t die and they didn’t return, her parents ran away like the other dragon guards. And for that she said she wished they were dead.

Because runing away is shameful, the Moonshadow people might have turned her parents into ghosts. The kind that are magically banned from returning to Moonshadow society. Even if they did try to come back, they might not be able to interact with her.

In season 3, when Callum used the Moon Opal to reveal what really happened in the night the egg of the dragon prince was stollen, he saw that Rayla’s parents did stay and try to defend the egg from Viren. Viren immobilized them in ice, and that’s the last we saw of them.

Assuming they didn’t run away, I think Viren put them into coins.

We know that Viren has at least 3 other coins with people in them (besides Runaan), because he dumps them on the ground to threaten Runaan. We can hear 3 or possibly more coins clink to the ground.

Runaan’s face and actions can’t confirm if he recognizes the people he saw trapped in the coins, but his eyes show horror and disgust and he calls Viren a monster. It’s at least possible he recognized the people in the coins.

I think two of the people in the coins are Rayla’s parents. Not many people know of Viren’s coins, but Gren definitely knows because he heard Runaan’s screams and Viren basically told Gren that he put the elf in the coin.

Perhaps when they return to Katolis, Gren will tell them what he knows about Viren and Runaan and the coins. Or maybe they will find out about the coins a different way.

I actually got a different vibe from their first meeting and their current possible ages. Current meaning after she’s been gone from VILE for a while. We’re going to dive into a bit of headcaonon territory with some trivial from old versions of Carmen for this.

With no spoilers, my thought is that Carmen was 15 and Player was 13 when they first meet and now she’s 20 and he’s 18.
