Art by Danielle Caners
My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration. I have not penetrated into the secrets of this core, but I know that it exists.

Wishing you all a very happy Kali Puja and Diwali.
I’ve written a lot over the past few years about Kali Puja so I’m not going to go on this year. I also realise I’ve posted the above picture before, but this particular image of Maa has special significance for me. It’s actually a print of the original image of Mother Kali that was worshiped by Sri Sarada Devi the wife and spiritual counterpart of Sri Ramakrishna. The original image is still kept at Udbodhan House, the Holy Mothers residents in Kolkata.
It’s an unusual image of Mother Kali, She has Her left foot forward in this picture, this form is known as Smashan Kali or Kali of the cremation ground. Generally we worship Shyama Kali with the right foot forward, this is the benevolent form of Maa who grants blessings. Smashan Kali however is rarely worshiped, this form of Maa takes everything away, She reveals the impermanence of all things, just like the lessons from the cremation ground.
I pray Mother Kali blesses us on this special occasion and all the very best for Diwali.

Nourishing the soul is the process of drinking at the life stream, coming back to one’s true self, embracing the whole of one’s experience–good, bad, or ugly; painful or exalted; dull or boring.
