Forced to complete humiliating tasks as a form of entertainment or punishment

Magic that feels good to use. It leaves the user dizzy and lightheaded, a giddy energy rushing through their entire body. It's enough to leave the most stoic whumpee giggling madly, to make the most obedient soldier go rogue. It's a power that ultimately, inevitably, controls its user.

Mages aren’t trusted to act on their own. They can’t be, not when each spell costs them their sanity. Not when, in a daze of manic joy, they’re just as liable to destroy the enemy as their allies.

And so they need a handler.

Imagine Caretaker in this situation. Forced to watch Whumpee throw themselves into madness, to turn themselves into an unthinking weapon under the demand of some uncaring general. Having to put aside their affection for Whumpee as a person, and analyze them as a tool.

It’s Caretaker who decides when Whumpee is still fit for battle. It’s caretaker who has to look into their dazed and distant eyes, blood dripping into a too wide smile, and decide if Whumpee has anything else to give.

It’s Caretaker who decides when they’re too far gone, when Whumpee needs to stop. And if Whumpee can’t, it’s Caretaker’s job to make them stop. Even if that means using force, even if it means hurting them, because letting them run wild isn’t an option.

And when the battle’s over, when Whumpee is either led or dragged away to the medical wing, Caretaker’s the only one brave enough to tend to their injuries. They wrap bleeding, scorched fingers without a word, the only sound being Whumpee babbling, mad ramblings. Caretaker knows they won’t remember any of this. They still talk to Whumpee anyway, soft, comforting words they hope will bring Whumpee back faster.

No problem. I have never thought about someone getting turned into a mermaid. So I'll try to come up with some ideas for you.

Turning into a Mermaid Prompts

The human is an environmental activist trying to clean the ocean. Their fight for a cleaner place for everything that lives in the ocean doesn't go unnoticed by the mermaids and they want to show their appreciation and invite them into their world.

A boat gets into trouble on the open sea. When the human falls overboard they think it's over for them, because they can't swim. But suddenly they can breathe under water and they realize that they are not alone.

Their grandmother gave them a locket before she mysteriously left the family. After one too many fights with their parents they run away to their grandmother's favourite place - the ocean. There they find some people very interested in the locket they have.

It's a common practice for mermaids to spend one year on land before returning to the sea forever. It's also common that they fall in love with humans and want to bring them with them.

The human finds a shell on the beach that feels almost alive. When they go into the water to clean it, they fall over, suddenly missing their feet and legs.

Being in love with a mermaid is like a long distance relationship and they don't want to spend another day separated from each other anymore. So they have to come up with a plan to live with each other.

Well, this is earlier than usual… But, as a thanks for all y’all’s help getting prompts together, I’ve decided to release the list earlier! And, well… With the new ‘Extreme Edition’ addition, I figured a bit more prep time may be warranted.

Rules:

You only have to use one (Or two, if you’re doing the extreme edition.) prompt a day! But you’re welcome to use multiple if you want to, and it still counts for both.

I know the description of the blog says it’s a writing event, but if you want to draw or make other kinds of content, that’s cool too.

Have fun, tag content warnings (such as noncon, graphic violence, etc) and try not to be crushed by the mortifying ordeal of posting your writing.

This is a pretty chill event so you can start posting whenever but I’ll be reblogging posts made to the #Whumpay2023 tag throughout May.

EXTREME EDITION: Made to be used together with the normal prompt list, the extreme edition prompt list has 31 types of whumpees for you to use. This is entirely optional, and you don’t necessarily need to do them in order. I know it says bonus points, but it basically is just bragging rights.

alright! this one's going to be kind of heavy though. I know I've talked about my feelings on the darkling and baghra's relationship being canonically emotionally abusive and most likely also physically abusive, but I've never really talked about my feelings on the fact that their relationship is a textbook version of emotional incest, and that baghra abused him in this way too.

now: "emotional incest often takes place when a parent lacks or has lost their own emotional support system, including their partner or spouse. they might feel isolated or not know how to find constructive outlets for difficult emotions in these cases." (x)

the relationship on it's own displays signs of this: in baghra's jealousy and possessiveness when it comes to aleksander's connections with others (often romantic), the ways she teaches him to survive often overlapping with a desire to isolate him from others so she is his only support system, her expectation of his responsibility as an adult in an adult relationship even when he's a child (and then later the expectation of his acting in a relationship with her when they're both adults), and her active blurring of his boundaries, as well as numerous other things.

when you know baghra's history, it becomes even more obvious, however. because the reason she had him in the first place was to fill the void of a life partner and a spouse - this is extremely evident in her abandoning of all previous children until she not only had one that could live as long as her, but also one that could understand her emotions and needs as a shadow summoner, and one that she would have an easier time of grooming into her likeness and her partner.

it also becomes obvious from a character standpoint when you consider that her efforts to have this child who could serve as her partner were driven by many of the classic emotions that lead to emotional incest, such as her loneliness, her grief and loss (or desire not to grieve and always lose others), the lack of intimacy and emotional availability in her life, as well as attachment trauma and a fear of abandonment, and the likelihood that she is a narcissist.

so anyways, that's my unpopular opinion on baghra. I think it's kind of commonly accepted in fandom that she 'wasn't the greatest mom', but that kind of sidesteps the fact that she was not only actively abusive, but acted incestuously towards her son.
