From the planets’ perspectives, Grace landed on Erid around the same time that the beetles got back to Earth. I thought about Earth racing to launch the taumoeba to Venus at the same time that Erid was racing to save Grace from starvation. Grace was healing his starved body at the same time Earth was healing her desecrated lands. Even if they didn’t know it for so many years afterwards, they were healing together. When Grace was well enough to start truly living on Erid, Sol had already begun to shine again.

#project hail mary #phm #ryland grace #grace phm #rocky the eridian #rocky phm #eva stratt #stratt phm #carl phm #<- he’s subtle but he’s there. carl i love you #grace rocky save stars #i think i am most proud of the rocket launch panel ngl. i am proud of this artwork as a whole but i like that panel a lot #i needed a visual way to convey earth having taken a beating to parallel grace’s visual decline in health #and halfway through drawing the aggressive snow i thought surely a rocket launch would have to be delayed in such weather conditions #and then thought that perhaps the weather is so terrible that they simply cannot wait for a clear day regardless.#the clear days are either so few and far in between that it’s impossible to wait or they just don’t have the time to #oh and i wanted to show Erid’s rings in conjunction with Earth’s moon #i did wonder briefly how the hell erid keeps rings in orbit when it’s so so close to its sun #but then again Earth’s moon is statistically extremely unlikely to exist too. it’s relatively *huge* in comparison to earth #so i think the potential of both earth and erid both having probabilistically unlikely but stunning planetary features is very cool #they’re twinning #scart #edit: i added a couple more close ups under a readmore. i did notttt format this ideally for social media it’s so horizontal. but that’s okk #lovely lovely responses so far are making me tear up thank you thank you
