Relationship archetypes in Apologetic Spectre! They don't necessarily have to be romantic but I do think it's funny to do tropes with the trope characters. Anything that says lovers could also be partners or just close friends
TL;DR - bassist/drummer, childhood friends to lovers, strangers to lovers, rivals to lovers. guess who's who before opening the cut :)
Kenny & Vince - Bassist/Drummer, obviously. Kenny admires Vince's perseverance in making music and how dedicated he is to the band. Vince makes him feel seen, asks him for his input on songs, actually understands when he talks rhythm, even when it's nonsense to the melodic side of the band. He makes Kenny feel like an important part of the band, and that's a breath of fresh air from bands who wouldn't care if he was swapped for a different drummer next week. Vince likes Kenny's energy, caffeine or natural. He's very versatile and seems to figure out whatever bassline Vince throws out. Kenny reassures him when he expresses doubts about the band or about his own capability. These two are the first to start hanging out outside of practice (except for Vince and Atticus, but that's because they already knew each other).
Vincent & Atticus - Childhood Friends to Lovers. The two of them met in high school when Vince complimented Atticus' fountain pen, which caught him off guard because he'd only been made fun of it before. Atticus showed Vince his vinyl collection and Vince taught him how to burn CDs. They went to senior prom together 'as friends' and matched ties with the other's suit color. When they graduated and moved to different colleges, they communicated not just through text but also handwritten letters and Polaroids/photo prints. Vince recently found out about Cave by seeing him perform by accident and is waiting for Atticus to tell him. Atticus is keeping Cave a secret because he doesn't think Vince will like that side of him. (He's wrong, Vince loves it.)
Lee & Kenny - Strangers to Lovers. There's a lot of distance between those two, with Kenny mostly hanging out with Vincent and Lee "trying" to stay as far away as possible. Lee's like a cat -- acts disinterested, but somehow always in the same room. Really, he's jealous of how quickly those two connected. Jealous in particular of Kenny, how he seems to hold the band together. It's pretty often that Atticus & Vincent do things together, and one day Vincent suggested to Kenny that he hang out with Lee at the same time ("kind of like an A-plot-B-plot thing! it'd be fun!") and that's the first of many forced hangouts that slowly turn into something they actually look forwards to.
Atticus & Lee - Rivals to Lovers. These two butt heads on EVERYTHING early into the band. Lee feels he's on the defensive with Vince and Atticus already having a connection, so he feels he has to fight Atticus to get on Vince's good side. (This is not true! Vince loves everybody, he's a sweet guy.) Atticus takes this as Lee trying to disrupt the communication and unity of the band. He also often wants to go more experimental or dissonant with the sound, whereas Lee wants to stick to what he thinks will make the band succeed. Atticus also hates the short-form videos Lee tries to have the band do. One night in particular, the band goes out drinking. Lee takes a vape break outside and Atticus follows him, thinking something's wrong. A couple of shots has Lee a bit less filtered than he usually is and he lashes out at Atticus, saying he's keeping the band from being successful. Atticus says he's trying to turn them into a soulless sellout. Kenny and Vince have to figure out why they're not speaking the next day. It's one of the hardest things the band goes through, but eventually they work it out.
Romantic bonus: first kiss in-band is when Lee (drunk) and Atticus are fighting. Lee says "you need to shut the fuck up," Atticus says "make me," and Lee pushes him up against the wall, intending to get in his face, but misjudges the distance and kisses him. It makes things exponentially more difficult between the two of them.

Lee & Vincent - Mutual Pining/Idiots in Love. You KNOW Lee is allergic to confessing his feelings and Vince takes forever to realize he has them. Vincent is easygoing and assumes he just wants Lee to be friendly back, not realizing maybe there's more of a reason why he wants Lee's attention/approval. Once Lee admits to himself he is genuinely interested in building the band it's natural for him to want to connect to Vince, the center and the rock of the band. He's assured where Lee is scattered, doesn't look to outside affirmation like Lee seems to need. I think these two are the last to get together just because they have so much going on with the others. Vince probably asks Lee about Atticus and Lee about Kenny. It's sort of a metamour-turned-partner thing. I love polyamory YAYYY
Atticus & Kenny - Fake Dating. Kenny's parents come to a concert and won't stop badgering him about getting a date as he's "chronically single" (said about Tate in a video!) so he eventually lies and says he's dating someone in the band. Well, Lee is not friendly enough with him to go along with it, and if he asks Vince he's afraid at ruining a chance of a Real Relationship with him, so the last option is...
Atticus is a bit thrown by the ask, but he's no stranger to acting (cough Cave cough) and Kenny promises to drive him to the next underground show of his favorite band no one has ever heard of so eventually he accepts. It's also free food because part of it is going out to dinner with Kenny's family. His siblings pester Atticus with incessant questions that he actually manages to keep up with. By the end of the night Kenny is wishing he could do it again because it was actually pretty fun.

Ive kinda become endeared to the alter ego characters sogo has made for their videos - the exhausted/energy drinks drummer, optimistic/socially awkward bassist, pretentious guitarist, and self-centered vocalist. makes me want to write about them.
the guitarist's name is Atticus but I have no idea what to name the others. I could pull from Matthew's other alter egos but that doesnt seem quite right. But I could definitely cook some sort of Sorry ghost archetypes AU out of it

In seven bands because there's a local drummer shortage. Bounces between them and doesn't really commit to any because he doesn't feel a click or connection. Will put a half time breakdown in any song. Worryingly high caffeine consumption exclusively in energy drinks. Grudgingly tolerates Lee. No one knows what his name is short for, if anything. Music taste is pop veering into hyperpop. Loves pink.

Goes by Vince, Vin, or Vinnie, last nickname given by Kenny. Optimist for a fault. Common denominator between the other three and the reason the band formed. Self described genre-fluid. This is his last ditch effort at music before he gives up and starts an accounting firm. Childhood friends with Atticus. They bonded over fountain pens and stationery.
Guitarist - Atticus
As indie as indie gets. Absolutely insufferable about music theory. Vince is the only one who can decipher what he means. Despite this, will come up with interesting countermelodies. Has decent opinions but the band hates listening because he never lets it go if he's right. Leads a second life where he plays metal and goes by Cave. It's only a matter of time before the band finds out. Guitar solo king.
Vocalist - Lee
That's his middle name, his first name (Matthew) is an open secret (much like a certain drummer) but he's not happy about it. Got into the band because he figured he could build a platform and then springboard off to make it solo, but he's becoming more attached than he wants to admit to himself. Jealous of the connection between Vince and Kenny, which is why he tries (and fails) to keep his distance. Big corvid enjoyer.
The band is Apologetic Spectre, and they don't put labels on anything, but their relationship is approaching polyjamorous more rapidly than any of them realize.

Maybe the Spicy Plum Boys could be their rival band, they're perfect in all the ways Apologetic Spectre isn't and more successful in the mainstream so AS resents them for it, especially Atticus who thinks their own songs have way more depth because of his contributions lol, could be potential there perhaps

i imagine AS struggles a lot bc they havent found a cohesive band identity and sound yet. lee tries to do a lot of promo for the band bc he wants to be known and build a fanbase, but hes also obsessively studying SPB's music videos, interviews, photoshoots, to find out why tf people like them

interestingly enough i think kenny would be the one to intervene about it. hes been a witness to countless bands starting up and then floundering bc they dont have their identity, hell he doesnt really feel like he has one himself because of all his memberships. he's the one that gets them all together and asks them if they really truly want to try and push the band. vince and atticus look at each other and readily agree. lee is standoffish until kenny says he would genuinely quit every other band he's in for AS and lee goes "fuck it. bet" and says he's in.
if anybody asks it's because he says he wants to show the same level of commitment as all the other members and NOT because he was moved by kenny's initiative to get the band on track. not at all.
