OK so. . .
Grace gets the memory of all the hail mary crew and Stratt singing, after reflecting on it and thinking he feels shitty that he never sang, like it could have been something for people to remember him byβthe stupid 'non savior' Grace with his shitty voice (its not actually shitty is actually very good when he doesn't get stuck in his head)βso he sets up his camera and records himself singing to send them.
Recording startsβI picture this is during a time he had the centrifuge off for some reasonβGrace explains the memory he just got and then pushes off towards one of the windows. I assume at least one of the songs sung at the karaoke had the lyrics modified to be a reflection of project hail mary, so Ryland does the same and starts singing
[Instrumental Intro]
[Intro] Ground Control to Dr. Grace Ground Control to Dr. Grace Take your protein pillsΒ and put your helmet on (Ten) Ground Control (Nine) to Dr. Grace (Eight, seven) (Six) Commencing (Five) countdown,Β engines on (Four, three, two) Check ignition (One)Β and may God's love (Lift off) be with you
[Verse 1] This is Ground Control to Dr. Grace You've really made the grade And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare This is Dr. Grace to Ground Control I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today
[Chorus] For here, am I sitting in a tin can Far, above the world Planet Earth is blue And there's nothing I can do
[Verse 2] Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles I'm feeling very scared And I think my spaceship knows which way to go Tell- *small sniffling break in his voice* I loved *again a break in his voice* very much, please know
[Bridge] Ground Control to Dr. Grace Your memory's dead,Β there's something wrong Can you hear me, Dr. Grace ? Can you hear me, Dr. Grace ? Can you hear me, Dr. Grace ? Can you-
[Chorus] Here, am I floating 'round my tin can Far, above the moon Planet Earth is blue And there's nothing I can do
[Instrumental Outro] [Guitar Solo]
The recording is cut off after a minute of silence as Grace stares out the window, face hidden from view, you can just see a tear or two floating away from him.
