Representative from the Pearl Tower who was undoubtedly annoying in the previous timeline and may yet be a little annoying in the current one if he ever appears again. Really sets the tone for the tension between mages and Awakeners that eventually got so bad that it's left Yuder dealing with an existential crisis over [spoiler spoiler spoiler]. Also love how Mukor's assistant and even the imperial court mage are trying to reason with his stubbornness.
You also get the feeling from this early on that mages become incredibly jealous even of other mages if they happen to be talented or naturally gifted. In a field where magic and its users are dwindling, having even moderate talent nowadays likely makes one a target. Oh, and especially if the one with power and talent is a commoner.
Rishiar in this one… wait why does that name remind me of something- *Kishiar la Orr* exists
Actually, I want to pinpoint when Yudrein first noticed something was off with the world around them vs. when he hyperfocused on it like a sleeper agent being activated because I recall him remembering that he went to the Pearl Tower to potentially find some answers but they had nothing. The Pearl Tower was destroyed seven years before his execution, and he probably would have already been investigating deeply enough to even seek clues from there. He would have been 23-24, which wasn't very long after Kishiar's assassination.
On one hand, it's possible that once the final trace of the family that exiled them was gone, the Wolf's Eye started making bolder moves. On the other, I don't think it's a coincidence that the world began crumbling when the living medium with pure Red Stone energy died.

I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old
Why is pet play always dogs anyway
Youre a dirty little goldfish arent you. daddys gonna clean your tank out so good so you have to wait in the sink until im done.
As the story went on and there were whispers and murmurs of the end approaching, and with Kishiar's theory that what the Wolf's Eye did to Orr in the previous TL is what they're going to try and do to Nelarn, I was under the impression that Nelarn would be the site of the story's final battle. Meanwhile I was like, "Pearl Tower arc?"
So of course Kuyu whacked that over my head.
For the majority of the story, what Yudrein did at the Pearl Tower has been kept under wraps. The destruction of the Pearl Tower was on the list of crimes that he was accused of committing. The thing about the things he was accused of is that he played at least a little part that lent to suspicions. With the assassination of Kishiar, yes 100% him. With the Redgrass Plains Riots, it was his leniency with participants who were under the influence of a mental manipulation power that earned him that suspicion. Yes, he was seeking cooperation with foreign countries, for reasons they repeatedly excused as ravings of a madman.
Yuder insists that he wasn't the one who caused the Pearl Tower to collapse, but what did he DO for people to suspect it was him? Did it happen soon after he was reported as being there? Did people simply associate his power with a power strong enough to bring it down?
The story will eventually bring Yuder to the Pearl Tower again, for sure. I feel like the biggest piece to the mysteries he's been trying to solve were there all along.
Also, imagine Yudrein popping into the tower for answers he's seeking, only for a whole lot of the senior staff there to naturally feel disdain for him not just because he's an Awakener, not just because he's the Arcane Legion's Commander, but because he eerily resembles that one woman who they all hated.

Sorry, hearing that Kanna's gonna set foot in Nelarn has me remembering how she likely died in the previous TL and I'm like, "Get that girl out of there."
