a simple observation
im gonna preface this by saying ship whatever u like! whether or not a ship is canon doesn't matter! im pro many ships in the aot fandom!
ive just made an observation that the rivetra tag in ao3 sometimes gets filled with levi's other popular pairings as the main relationship, with levi/petra tagged in the relationships list further down, and often as a past couple (whatever the circumstances its kl, i am not here to pass judgement on that) but that this does not go the other way.
ive by no means exhausted the tag but from what i have seen, levi/petra fics are usually just about that, levi and petra - in these fics there are no past levi/erwin, levi/hange relationships or any other levi pairings.
There are many reasons why this might be the case of course (that petra dies first and so his relationship with other characters goes on for longer in the manga/anime is undoubtedly one of them), but still it leads me to believe that even folk who don't ship levi and petra as their OTP or anything have picked up on a connection between the two, or at least recognise that they have some kind of spark (even if they write about rivetra unfavourably, thats still an acknowledgement) and i think that that's neat :)
OMG YOUR LAST PARAGRAPH IS SO TRUE. I've just realized I never ever had saw any rivetra writers put another Levi's ship tag in their fics 😆🤣😂 people just couldn't deny rivetra, they're so canon, everyone feels that, and I love it!!!
As disappointing as finding non-Rivetra works under the Rivetra tag is, you got a point. 😆
