Art director Marc Ascoli asked Nick Knight to handle the photography  for japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto’s lookbook and advertising campaign in 1986. Knight involved graphic designer Peter Saville (1955), known for producing album sleeves for Joy Division and New Order. The trio created a series of -what would go down in fashion history as groundbreaking- images. Their Yamamoto lookbooks have since become collector’s items. The innovative photos by Ascoli, Knight and Saville for Yohji Yamamoto -Susie Bick slumped on a chair with cigarette between her fingers- have a tremendous impact to this day, and have been instrumental in developing Yamamoto brand’s visual identity.
