happy love island usa day to anyone else who watches
you're delirious, i... i'll get you some water. [james sunderland, @lvl99]
'i'm not... fucking delirious!' the latter half of the sentence is spat out, words practically ricocheting off the walls as his head twists in james' direction.
on one hand, ethan's outburst is meant to stop his friend. halt him in his tracks and make him listen to what's coming out of ethan's mouth, rather than running away. [even if it is to grab water.]
mia, louisana, chris, rosemary, the mold, everything. these aren't delusions, these are all real as in both they happened and are real to ethan’s brain.
but, on the other hand, when he listens to himself speak — the father of one recognizes where a person may gather the illusion of deliriousness from what he says. there's an overbearing sensation of exasperation radiating from that; from sounding more crazy than he knows he is.
with a loud sigh, ethan runs a scarred hand down his face, lips pressing themselves together.
i'm not actually delirious, right?
now that the thought's inside his head, he can't help but wonder if there's some semblance of truth behind it. to what james is saying.
there's no fucking way i'm delirious.
gaze meeting his friend's, the blond nods his head once. [more in defeat than anything.] 'yeah, sure, water would be just dandy.' though surrendering in nature, it doesn't erase the palpable vexed tone clawing its way up his windpipe.

you're a good man. [boodle, @godvalleys]
over the years, woop slap has been called many things. stubborn, loud, even a nuisance at times. more than a few things that weren't fit for such polite company. a "good man" usually didn't make that list.
the words boodle says land harder than the old mayor expects, evident by the way his weathered hands fold behind his back as he looks at his friend. his confidant in any and all struggles over the years. the corners of his mouth twitches upward; a rare sight for such a grumpy man.
'careful there...' he mutters quietly, tender and warm enough for only the two of them to hear. 'keep saying things like that and people'll think you've gone soft.'
his gaze lingers on the other mayor probably longer than it should before retreating back towards the skyline of foosha village, unable to look direct in his eyesight with his next two sentences. 'besides, if i'm good at all, it's because i've had good people standing next to me. like you.'
who's the one who's gone soft?

will you relax, i'm just kidding around. [l lawliet, @godvalleys]
his shoulders loosen only a fraction of an inch. not because the reassurance helps nor because light actually believes it. but because reacting any further would only make him look even more guilty.
his jaw tightens before he forces the tension away, fingers drumming against the edge of his desk. the sound is quiet and controlled; deliberate in the shared space of the task force's office. light hates how easily ryuzaki manages to weasel himself beneath his skin. every conversation is like walking through a field of traps, never knowing which harmless comment is actually another hidden test.
a slow exhale escapes him, light's voice coming out even flatter than intended. 'right.' dark eyes search the detective's face for some indication of where the "joke" ends and the investigation begins.
with ryuzaki, there rarely seems to be a difference.
leaning back slightly in his chair, light crosses his arms. 'maybe you should give people some warning before saying things like that.' the complaint sounds reasonable enough for him to make; casual, normal, exactly what he's aiming for.
a smile pulls at one corner of his mouth, never reaching his eyes, voice carrying a trace of arid amusement as he snarks one final comment.
'then again, i guess making people uncomfortable is your idea of entertainment.'
if clouds are water, why aren't fish in the sky?

this kinda looks like your old girlfriend! [travis touchdown, @lvl99]
the smile aptly fixated across the deep's face drops like a hot potato. for a second, all he does is stare at the plushie in travis' possession.
nemo. of course it's fucking nemo. the g.o.a.t of all clownfish.
his shoulders tense beneath the green wetsuit, mouth pulling into a thin line as several emotions wage war across his face simultaneously. offense, embarrassment, genuine sadness, even the furrowing his eyebrows to cook up a lie. instead, he lands on obvious vexation with a hint of embarrassment. [evident by the brush of pink across his cheeks.]
'okay. first of all, that's really insensitive.' his right index finger lifts, pointing accusingly at nemo. 'secondly, she wasn't even a clownfish. she was an octopus. get it right, bro.' a pause / another pause. 'thirdly, she wasn't even my girlfriend. not officially, anyway.' which somehow makes all of this sound even worse than it already did.
deep's eyes remain still on the toy, the expression in his eyes growing increasingly wounded the longer he looks at it. it's like seeing a ghost. a tiny, orange, mass-produced ghost with embroidered eyes. god, he misses her. misses all of them in the ocean. the fish, the dolphins, even the sea cucumbers.
a heavy sigh leaves him, gaze slowly making its way back onto travis. 'wait.' realization finally dawns on the superhero, eyes narrowing in the process. 'how did you even know about that?'

'how come you didn't answer me?'
'i didn't hear you.'

'you just don't know when you're carrying something too far.'
'big deal, it's just a joke, shit.'
'it'll be better tomorrow. things'll smooth out, you'll see.'
'it's just that ever since we came up here, things have been a little too tense.'
'what'ya we stay up for a while and listen to the storm?'
'is anybody out there?'

'help, help, let me in. open the door!'
'please, someone please! help me, help me!'
'it... it tried to kill me.'

'there's nothing out there.'
'trees do not attack people.'
'will you drive me into town or not?'
'i don't care how it sounds.'
'if you don't want to stay, i can't make you.'
'it's not gonna let us leave.'
'why are you slowing down?'
'wanna play some cards?'
'guess, i'm going to see if you're psychic.'
'you know, i always thought i had some sort of extra sense. you know, like e.s.p. or something.'
'you will die. like the others before you.'
'we will take you one by one.'
'we've still got a few hours before morning.'
'everything's gonna be alright.'
'what is, uh... what are we gonna do?'
'do you have everything?'
'if i find a way out of here, i'll mark it and then come back.'
'you're a good man.'
'soon all of you will be like me.'
'i think i'm dying. jesus, i can't feel my legs.'
'you're gonna be okay. you're gonna be just fine, you'll see.'
'we're all gonna die here...'
'we're not gonna die!'
'i don't want to die. so... so lonely to die like this.'
'you're not gonna leave me, are you? are you?'
'i'm scared, i... i can't feel my legs.'
'listen to me please, for god's sake.'
'don't let them take me away again, please, please, please.'
'help me. let me out of here. i'm alright now.'
'come unlock this chain and let me out.'
'don't you recognise me?'
'why are you doing this? why?'
'i don't want to die, but... but i can't stand this pain.'
'gimme something. gimme something to put me out.'
'i know it's bad. but i can't be alone now, i can't. i'd lose my mind.'
'there is no tomorrow!'
'you're delirious, i... i'll get you some water.'
'now, now the sun will be up in an hour or so and we'll get out of here... together.'
'wouldn't you like to be going home? you'd like that i bet, wouldn't ya?'
'stay back.'
'please, if you can still hear me, keep away.'
'cmon, c'mon, get it over with, why are you torturing me like this?'
'not another peep, time to go to sleep.'
'this kinda looks like your old girlfriend!'
'what, are you crazy?'
'i'm gonna smack your face!'
