ON ARCHER KESSLER’S VAMPIRISM.
Last edit 04/2018
Archer’s specific case of vampirism, down to its effect, does bring the appearance of a vampire. His heterochromatic eyes, previously of a black and brown colour, now turned different tones of red and were given night vision, which happens to be faintly glowing whenever he turns a predator for feeding. His mellow milk skin, although retaining its bits of golden tone, turned sickly pale, as his body no longer produces heat like of a living and normal human. As Archer wasn’t considered the healthiest of human though, even with the worrying skin tone, it hasn’t been questioned by people. Archer’s features have also softened. This is an ambiguous line between the vampire’s natural charm to attract humans to them and their condition to keep their body at their peak form. Imperfections on Archer’s body have lessened. It made him subtly more attractive, the effect mostly being to be able to bring in those who would in the past be taken aback by his wrinkles, more unkept demeanour and sickly/lazy appearance.
Archer’s fangs inject a venom in their victim which prevents scarring and infection, although he has been proven so far to be terrible at feeding, accidentally hitting mental arteries or making victims collapse because he cannot stop himself. Feeding has been ecstatic so far to him, being the only time where he shows an almost out of character kind of energy from the satisfaction of filling his insatiable and constant thirst.
However, the poison of his fangs show side effects; anaesthetic and lust. The first one being a numbness which increases by the number of bites (and so injection) in the victim’s body, making some of them even collapse from the increasing effect while stronger built people can stand straight just fine. The second one is actually an increased in sexual hormones in the body, not affecting the mind itself but the physical and chemical components in one’s organism. The reason behind this would make the victims addicted to the effect and seek to be fed on more or, to some extent, have them fall for the vampire, something Archer doesn’t personally seek. Victims would get a sudden increase in arousal, that just builds up as the feeding go to the point of making them feel needy for touch, from who simply depends on the personality and preferences. If not satiated, the effects can linger for hours. This effect exists to cause addiction to mentally weak preys and/or facilitate the victim’s bodily surrender to the feeding. On children, their body reacts quite violently on bringing an hormone their development shouldn’t have, making them sickly, trembling and most likely throw up.
Archer’s vampirism make him able to turn into a black fruit bat, one of the largest specie existing. This makes him noticeable in city area whereas he has to be careful. However, Archer has been witnessed to be horrible at flying, smashing against walls, windows and various obstacles on top of having a hard time following wind currents and to this extent, exhausting himself from fighting against it. An hybrid form is also available, though not mastered (nor preferred) to him yet where his human form can turn his ears to his animal counterpart one, but also his wings, connected from his wrist to his feet, and subsequently ruining clothes. As for very short distance and for mostly for the purpose is sneaking in a tighter space, Archer also has the ability to melt his body into a dark smoke which takes the form of a swarm of small bats. Although whichever form Archer takes, his own body creates its own gravity, making him able to walk on walls and ceilings without bother. On the contrary, he personally found sleeping upside down in small places to be comfortable if no bed was available.
Shadow powers are also something Archer has been developing, being able to give a smoky, ephemeral, yet dangerously solid form to his own shadow to do his bidding. Given his dread for his new condition, it is not entirely proper for fighting and the raven will most likely use it to heighten his quality of life, such as bringing various objects to him. Given Alois’ was the one introducing Archer to those, his shadow most likely take a form reminding one of tentacles.
Being a vampire means being virtually immortal, being regenerated constantly unless the entire cells are being burned or if the head becomes severed from the rest of the body; in the latter case, reconnecting it to part of the vampire’s corpse will begin the regeneration process again. Being undead, Archer’s heartbeat is way lower than normal and the majority of his body fluids, such as tears and sweat have become blood and staining his damn clothes. Another effect though is that any sign of degenerative symptoms which Archer previously suffered from, mostly from cocaine addiction and alcoholism were erased.
Sunlight, holy water and silver are the raven’s weaknesses, the three of them having burn capacities or brutal vampire repelant. crucifixes that have been blessed to an extent are very uncomfortable to put it lightly. Archer has been so far stubbornly wanting to get out during the day with a large black umbrella, making his body slowly burn and in pain, but also even set on fire a few times.
The vampiric physical changes is one thing, but the mental ones are another case entirely.
The mental state is where Archer is set apart from other vampires. Not being born as one and being actually very unwilling to become a fledgling, multiple troubles arose in his mind.
Archer is constantly haunted by the trauma of his death, as Alucard gently made it as excruciatingly slow as possible so he could feel his entire body shut down on him, on top of living the actual death.
Archer’s culture, on top of himself being more traditionalist, is inherently HUMAN. Thus he still sees himself as part of the human race and still act and present himself like one. This makes his daily life increasingly difficult since both his cultural and physical nature clash again and again. Things such as seeking feeding, simply finding blood appetizing at first glance, using gravity to his advantage and a whole lot of other things which vampires acquire right away have been a pain to adapt to. And Archer’s stubborn behaviour hasn’t helped.
On top of this, Archer usually found himself feeling superior to other supernatural beings because of his pride of being human... this really hit a sensitive nerve. Both his pride to be proud of who he is and the one attached to his previous race constantly collide, making him at times contradictory.
Being a morning person, Archer dearly misses the sunlight and it has been doing TERRIBLE on his mood as his human hormones AND instinct seek the sun to replenish their energy.
He really finds the Leveilleur family damn annoying.
He has been an extremely picky eater since he wants to be in control of his feeding and to who he will affects... when really he shouldn’t the thirst is bad enough as it is. Though recently, Archer’s picked up the vampiric activity that is hunting, even if it is not in his top preference to eat so, he finds himself to enjoy the thrill and the kill, to avoid loose ends.
Archer has been, mostly without noticing, hypnotizing people, because of his manipulative personality, which triggers it. Not being the most straightforward type of hypnotism others might think. Archer’s already charming charisma heightened, making people drawn to his own opinion and standing by his simple presence and what he exudes. The hypnosis cannot be done unless someone is unconsciously open to it (as in not actively fighting it) and will only put a seed of an idea to be attracted to Archer’s side, be it physically, mentally or even emotionally. Even those who dislikes and hates him will be drawn to curiosity in his case, making him more surrounded than he ever was during his living times.
He is STILL afraid of heights. Guess how that works out for him.
He can’t go in private, residential places unless he’s invited, that fucks up all his will to be in control of situations.
He still drinks. Actually he drinks more. To forget. What? Fucking everything.
Death rekindled his own flame of faith, drawing him closer to his religious beliefs. Did I say that about everything holy really hurts him already?
Really he is just terrible at being a vampire altogether.
