BBC 3 Evaluation
For this project we was et out to create a working prototype, could be an app or a website or anything in relation to BBC 3. We was not restricted as to what it is we want to create.Β
As you may know that BBC 3 is now off air and is onlyΒ accessibleΒ online. So weΒ was given a brief to create an app or a website that will fully show BBC 3 as a online based user. For this task we must show clearΒ responses thatΒ meets the brief, show good understanding as to what the brief is asking of me, show clear step by step process and making sure that the prototype works. Making sure it is aimed at that the target audience ages between 16-24, and making sure it appeals to them.
At the beginning of the project i set myself someΒ targetΒ goals. These where to learnΒ how to create an app, improve on generating ideas and having a goodΒ presentationΒ skills which i need to improve on.
To get the projectΒ startedΒ we wasΒ firstlyΒ given a task to find theΒ competitorsΒ that theΒ BBCΒ 3Β has andΒ researchΒ on their background. What makes themΒ successful, whyΒ areΒ the younger audiences attracted more towards that particular user than the BBC3. By doing this short task it has helped me to understand the usersΒ expectations, gain some form of idea, and having the skill to findΒ information and set a myself good source of questions which is a good way to gather the information i needed.
Whilst i was designing my ideas using the method of the crazy 8β²s which i found really helpful to generate different forms of ideas, at this point it did not matter if the ideas are similar,Β whatΒ matters is the exercise task. This has helped meΒ to not stick to the first idea but to further think ahead for other possible ideas.
I then went on to learn another skill. Creating a story board. This method i really enjoyed as it helped me find my own journey using visual images helps speed the process and you haveΒ a lotΒ of time to amend any errors or mistakes.Β
I decided to use marvel-app. This app design website i really enjoyed using and will continue to use for my own personal design ideas. This app is very simple and easy to use. The whole idea of using an app to create your own app is a simpler and easier learning activity. I started of by creating my visuals in Photoshop. I made sure i used the right format which is for a mobile app and selecting the size of screen for anΒ iPhoneΒ 6. After creating the visuals in photoshop iΒ then uploaded the visuals inΒ marval-app. I found this exercise for creating anΒ app very easy. At first i had a few errors but i had managed to amend them without ease.
Lastly i went on to user test my prototype at The BBC. At first i was very nervous iΒ unfortunatelyΒ at that time forgotten to bring my sheet of questions which iΒ neededΒ to ask the user questions. Thankfully Matt had a copy of the questionsΒ which was given to us all asΒ a guideΒ to create our own. As i did not have mineΒ at the time, i had to think of different ways to ask a question by not directly using the questions off the sheet. As i got to the interview room it seemed ok as as i was presented with the first user i was not nervous at all. I was calm talkative, made sure i made eye contact and had a good posture.
To sum up this project as a whole i really enjoyed the whole process of using the method of Cray 8β²s and the method of story boarding your ideas as how the user will be using the prototype. The BBC Crew where very friendly and helpful.I wouldΒ defiantlyΒ take this whole process for future projects and i really hope there areΒ future projects that involve app design.Β
