I’ve not felt “sexy” in over a month. I’ve felt loved, I’ve felt belonging. I’ve felt joy, frustration and all the emotions that signify life, but not that reason to Gram or say “click to subscribe if you want more”. Maybe that’s why I’m a fool who still thinks showing yourself shouldn’t come with a paywall. I’m not happy that me and my shell are drifting again, especially cus my boyfriend loves me so, and I do like the person I’ve been becoming.

It just so happens that this week is also Parshat Zachor, when Jews have a specific command to go to shul for the reading about how the ancient nation of Amalek attacked the People of Israel in the desert and the subsequent command to stomp out the memory of Amalek.

There were many nations that the Biblical Jews interacted with- why was Amalek so worthy of having the commandment to wipe out their memory?

Because they were less a people than an ideology.

Instead of attacking from the front, Amalek circumvented and attacked from the rear where the weak, sick, and families were. Their attack was one of cowardice, driven solely by hatred of The Other.

Amalek is still preying on the weak and neediest of us. Amalek is easy to spot in today’s world, and still as evil as when they kept their attacks aimed only at the Children of Israel wandering the desert.

We must “Remember what Amalek did [to you] in the desert”, but we must also initiate change. Healthcare for all. Livable minimum wage. Protection to worship and congregate without fear of bullets and violence.

I’ll probably be flagged or taken down, but I think it’s important to show this side of myself in the face of all those muscle jocks out there. Yeah this isn’t a great angle, yeah I’m bloated after half a pizza for dinner, yeah I haven’t been exercising regularly, yeah I’m getting a little flabby again, yeah I’m not feeling as in love with myself, but my body is mine and I’m done hating it for not having a chiseled set of pecks and a six pack.
