today I come to you with very important advice.
Please, please always rethink your decision before coming out.
I’ve seen a lot of posts about coming out nowadays. The circumstances seem appropriate after all. I mean it’s pride month - what a better time to come out of the closet. Second of all - yesterday was a joyful day when Dan came out to us. in with very powerful video.
That’s great, that’s awesome, that’s wonderful.
But please think again, okay?
Because it’s really easy, I direct those words especially to younger readers, it’s really easy to overlook all the cons of coming out in your enviornment when you look at all those happy faces.
Every face hides a history, some of them are happy, some of them are sad. And once you come out you will be one of those faces.
So please before feeling so inspired to come out, please ask yourself those questions:
2. Are you sure you will be safe no matter reaction of people around you once you come out?
3. Did you want to come out before hearing out an inspiring story? If no, ask yourself why?
4. Did you somehow “test the waters” earlier? Did you talk about LGBTQ+ in general before with people you want to come out to? What was their reaction?
If an answer to any of those questions leaves a doubt in your heart, please rethink your decision. Celebrating your sexuality, romantic orientation or gender is wonderful but you know what’s more exciting? You being safe and healthy.
I’m not trying to worsen your mood or to put you down. I’m not trying to make you doubt your family. I just wish for you to stay safe. Coming out is amazing experiance and you deserve to having your first coming out to people who deserve hearing about that.
