Ok so I just finished reading Batman: Under the Red Hood

Needless to say that it was a phenomenal read.

The art in it is consistently amazing to look at and the writing itself is really captivating and had I not known the plot twist already the mystery would have been so fascinating.

I will say that this read did amplify my mixed feelings on mainline Batman. Don’t get me wrong he’s a great and very complex character and I find him admirable and I don’t want to be one of those fans that hate him just cuz he hurt Jason or whatever. But seeing him firstly going all “Noooo” over a dead nazi (my goat absolute Batman would never) and choosing the Joker over Jason (I understand that it’s a lot more complicated than that and that in his head it’s probably his way of “saving” Jason) and especially throwing the batarang at Jason’s shoulder (or neck it isn’t very clear) when a few pages earlier it is stated how lethal shoulder wounds can be it’s like choosing the life of a psychotic murderous maniac over the one of his victim and Bruce’s son at a situation where he didn’t even have to pull the trigger, just leaves me resenting him in a way, bcuz to me it shows that he values his no kill rule more than anything or anyone else even at the cost of losing the ones he loves most.

Obviously as someone who mainly reads Jason focused comics my view on (mainline)Batman is rather tainted (while I haven’t read it I’ve heard of a recent run by Chip Zdarsky in which he does something to Jason to reinforce his no-kill rule on him which just makes my blood boil honestly), but I’m open to hear out other opinions on the matter(I’m not gonna act like Jason is some saint).

So I read The Catcher in the Rye and I’m quite conflicted to say the truth.

Long story short my best friend and I decided to pick up and read the book after she had me watch Banana Fish.

Overall I believe it’s a brilliantly written book that’s also a smooth and engaging read.

My main issue(?) is Holden, whom I just don’t know how to feel about lmao. I have a love/hate relationship with him, on the one hand I can’t stand him at all and how there’s not a page in the book where something anything doesn’t make him depressed, on the other hand I find him such a fascinating character and in a Stockholm Syndrome-esque way I enjoy reading him just wandering around the city and just hating on whatever he sets his eye on.

In a sense having finished reading the book I have similar feelings about Holden as he does about Stradlater and Ackley by the end, while I couldn’t stand him, now that it’s over I do kinda miss him and have some fondness for him.

On a slightly unrelated note I do find it curious how Holden is often drawn in fan arts with medium length shaggy hair when it’s said in the book he has a crew cut and how often his greying hair is ignored.

Anyway, I would recommend the book to anyone curious.

What would your favorite characters wear to a sleep over?

I’ve been thinking of drawing Wade every now and then, but unfortunately I don’t have the inspiration for it tbh, with Dante I’m good for now hahah I love that old man but my hand needs a break from drawing his overtly detailed outfit tho I am thinking of drawing my take of Dante in each of the five games and have scribbled some pose ideas for Dmc 1, 3 and 5, I still have another scribble with Frank I wanna clean up sometime, but that will require the motivation to do backgrounds, as for Simon I have like 3 wips with him I just need to render them and with Barley I got a scribble too I wanna clean up.
