Dr. Sol Benetti

She was starting to wonder if Caddock actually ever slept. She almost never woke up next to him without him looking at her. 

Sol’s fingers tangled in Caddock’s sweaty hair as she cooed in his ear. “It’s okay. You’re safe, you’re safe now and I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. No one’s hurt. Maxie, Neto, and I, we’ve got you, il mio amore.” She never counted how many night terrors he had, never kept a ledger of how he was coping or avoided coping, but she was glad for her training and these furry therapy dogs, glad she could give the man she loved some comfort from his past.

She picked up her phone, it was five minutes past their normal park time and Sol wondered if Caddock was okay. Not one to push him, but after months of their park dates he’d never not messaged if he was running late. In a turn of events she’d brought an end of summer treat for them, too. So, she opened hers before it could melt and sent her crush a text and selfie. “If you don’t get to the park soon I’m going to eat your popsicle!”

Even after they started living together, she never stopped making Caddock late afternoon sandwiches. If he was sick she’s sometimes weasel in the sandwich recipes that they never touched that were meant for mornings into the mix. Breakfast in bed, always there to give him a slice of comfort.
