In 1909, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia travelled to the Isle of Wight with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and their five children, specifically for the Cowes Week Regatta. During their visit, the family attended a reception on board the Royal Yacht “Victoria and Albert”, which was hosted by King Edward VII. Similarly, Nicholas held receptions on his boat, the “Standart”, which was heavily guarded by two Russian cruisers, three destroyers and ships of the British Fleet. While the children spent much of their time exploring the beach and Swiss Cottage at Osborne, the Tsar’s two eldest daughters, Olga and Tatiana, were allowed to visit the iconic races. However, locals were quick to recognise the Grand Duchess’s going in and out of shops, which encouraged immense crowds to form, putting pressure on their safety.

The Cenotaph is a war memorial on Whitehall in London, England. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, it was unveiled in 1920 as the United Kingdom's national memorial to the dead of Britain and the British Empire of the First World War.

Last known photograph by George of his beloved Land Rover, Mzuri just before she was sold in 1961. Only to be discovered in Australia 55 years later in 2016. Now being carefully looked after by David and Janelle Darcy of Land Rover Heaven @landroverheaven . There is also a fabulous book about George's travels in Mzuri crossing the Sahara and East Africa produced by CoolnVintage entitled 'Mzuri'.
