Stucky commission ā (x)Ā Ā
fracturesandfaultlines:
It would have been nice, Bucky thought, if Steveās response had been just a tad bit more enlightening. Those words could have meant anything. Maybe this worldās Bucky had had his memory wiped too. Maybe this Steve never even met Bucky and he was shocked a stranger would know him.Ā
Since Steveās words gave Bucky nothing to go on, there was just body language. It was subtle, but Bucky caught the way Steveās fingers curled around the mug, ready to use it as a weapon. Probably not strangers, then.
It was heartbreaking enough just looking at Steve, who was so much and not at all like the one heād left behind. He didnāt get homesick very often, but this did the trick, and being looked at like he was a threat just ached more. Sucking in a breath, Bucky came to the conclusion that he couldnāt do this. He stand here with someone who looked and sounded like everything he missed about home and hope to hang on to his composure.Ā
āIām sorry.ā Bucky shook his head, hastily trying to disengage. He was already starting to walk away as he added, āI think thereās been a mistake.ā
Was Bucky nervous? That didnāt seem right, not even for a dead man. Thereād been nothing recognizable left of the Bucky heād last encountered. None of this added up at all.Ā
Unless the man heād killed had been another Hydra ruse meant to get to him, (and boy had it gotten to him). Hope fluttered, weakly, and Steve got up before he really stopped to think, striding after Bucky.Ā
āWait! You know who I am.ā Steve closed the distance with very little effort, clapping a hand down on Buckyās shoulder.Ā āDo you know who you are?ā

fracturesandfaultlines:
Of all the places Bucky traveled with the Doctor, other versions of Earth were the most unsettling. There was a familiarity to the streets of D.C., alleys he swore he remembered skulking through the aftermath of his final Hydra mission. The trees, the sky, the buildings⦠all of it looked exactly like the planet heād left behind.Ā
Even the people looked the same. Of course they did, being human. Bucky walked down a quiet street, passing shops and restaurants, wishing he could just enjoy the say. He wasnāt the Winter Soldier here. He was just passing through. Maybe in this timeline, heād never even existed.Ā
Bucky clung to that assumption, holding it like a lifeline. No one knew him here. They were all strangers, from the little girl picking out books on the other side of a bookstore window to the man sitting alone on the patio of a cafe a dozen feet away. They were all strangersā¦Ā
Only, knowing that didnāt keep Buckyās heart from freezing in his chest as he looked, really looked, at the coffee shop man. He dropped the sonic screwdriver heād been turning over in his hand (because it was less threatening than walking down the street twirling a knife), and breathed out.Ā āSteve.ā
Steve might have missed that someone was staring at him. He was distracted, staring at the gapped pattern of the wrought iron patio table, and the way the umbrella cast shadows across his fingers. They werenāt important things, but they were simple, harmless things to focus on, and the rest of the world had gone so mad.
It might have been better if heād missed that he was being stared at, but someone said his name, and Steve looked up, and the whole world went sideways. He knew that face, had known it all his life. He knew those hands that had nearly choked him to death. Mostly, he knew those eyes. Heād watched the light leave them just a few weeks before. Heād felt a pulse stop under his hands, so however much that looked like Bucky Barnes, it couldnāt be. It couldnāt because Bucky Barnes was dead. Steve Rogers had killed him.Ā
āYou know my name,ā he said carefully, fingers subtly curling around the handle of his mug. He didnāt want this to devolve into a fight, but the Bucky he thought was dead had been so far beyond saving. If this was somehow that Bucky, no one was safe.

The day was a beautiful one, all warm breezes and sunshine, perfect for sitting out on the coffee shop patio. Mostly, Steve even appreciated that. It soothed some of the melancholy he hadnāt been able to escape.Ā
Steve was nursing his third cup of coffee. It wasnāt that he needed the caffeine. He didnāt even respond to it. The coffee was just an excuse to keep sitting, to sideline himself from the rest of the world a little while. Idly dragging his finger along the rim of his mug, Steve sat back and watched the world go by.Ā

And he said: boys and girls youāve come to watch the end You will burn in hell for this I will ride a bullet through your head
Bucky: Steve, I want you to see these. They're journals that I use to record what I can remember from before.
Steve: Buck... thank you for sharing these with me. I know how important--
Bucky: THIS journal is dedicated to you.
Steve: Aw--
Bucky: You can see the title. "Stupid Shit I Remember Steve Doing."
Steve:
Bucky: Volume 2.
