Trump started this war in bed with the enemy’s main sponsor [Russia], and to actually win the war, he has to wean himself off that psychologically critical relationship, which has directed his trajectory for a decade. Just as importantly, Trump is facing the Narcissistic injury that has animated his entire political career: Barack Obama’s superiority to him. Trump’s advisors, some of his Gulf allies, most of the world, recognize that negotiating out of this deal is the only way to avoid a counterproductive escalation. But any deal will be worse than JPCOA, which Trump tore up in an attempt to void the history of the first Black president eight years ago.

BONEDIGGRE BYTE-SIZE [01] — BOKTAI: THE SUN IS IN YOUR HAND (2003, GBA, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan)
A little introduction to both "Bonediggre Byte-size," a numbered series of shorter-form (under an hour) VIDEOS ESSAY on VIDEOS GAME, and "Boktai: the Sun is in Your Hand," which is a COOL GAME that YOU SHOULD PLAY. Or don't!
"I beat the game in 30 hours" okay but did you explore the map to find spots that look pretty? did you put your characters in silly little outfits? did you try the mini games? did you let the characters become friends? did you have fun? did you have fun playing your game???

The Lack of Philosophical Education
A population trained early and well in philosophical inquiry would not simply "think better", but also begin to ask whether the terms under which it lives are negotiable. This would be a liability from the standpoint of systemic stability.
I believe this is why the absence of philosophy is not just curricular but embedded in how society's problems are framed. Questions are typically presented as technical, managerial, or psychological rather than conceptual. One is invited to optimize within a structure, not to interrogate the structure itself, which is the difference between asking how to be more productive and asking why productivity should function as a measure of worth in the first place. The former question scales while the latter one metastasizes.
Even the much-celebrated emphasis on “critical thinking” is, in practice, carefully domesticated. Students are taught to evaluate arguments, spot fallacies, weigh evidence, which are very admirable and... quite safe. What they are not systematically encouraged to do is turn that critical apparatus against the background assumptions that make their evaluative frameworks possible. In other words, they are trained to be competent within an academic game, but not to question the game itself.
Obviously, a society cannot function if every individual is perpetually renegotiating their most basic commitments. At some point, one must act, cooperate, trust, or defer to others, but philosophy introduces friction into these processes. Not necessarily paralysis, but a drag coefficient on certainty. A small cadre of people engaging in that work can be tolerated, even valorized as “intellectuals”; however, a generalization of that disposition would be… less convenient.
One begins to see why philosophy is permitted, even celebrated, at the margins, where it can be contained, aestheticized, or professionalized out of daily life.
Something I miss about 1980s Canadian YA television is the touch of the surreal that resulted from the juxtaposition of very ambitious plotting with microscopic casts. Like, the kids will be having adventures in outer space, but the show can't afford guest stars, so the evil space emperor they fight every week is played by the same actor as their high school principal, and based on the writing it's genuinely unclear whether it's meant to be the same guy. All sitting there wondering whether you're supposed to notice that the star queen benefactor who supplies the kids with plotdevicium crystals is the protagonist's mom in an aluminum foil mask.
You can't take me out to bars because I start talking about how gin and tonic is inextricable from the history of medicine and British colonialism.
So British soldiers and missionaries started getting malaria in India. The traditional preventative/cure for malaria before the advent of effective antiparasitics was quinine.
In order to get soldiers to drink it, tonic water became the palatable way to consume quinine. They mixed it with gin, which has its own history of being connected to the Anglo-Dutch wars, and added lime as the common preventative for scurvy. So it became a colonial cure-all and popular cocktail among a certain class at the same time.
So you can't have a G&T without two of the common maladies of Europeans sent to tropical climates for colonialism.
Full Self-Driving has absolutely ruined the normal driving experience for me.
i love a dim lit room!! turn off all big lights!!!
