Hello! I'm Marley. This is my blog. I post my art and writing and neuroses. It's very disorganized but it's mine. Here's a little about me, as well as a general directory:
He/him, adult born in the 90s, married to @superman-elimination-machine :)
Artist and writer; I'm largely self-taught and supposedly do these things for "fun" but I have #perfectionism and need to be #the best
My completed fics (AO3)
My art tag: #i need an art tag
I post WIPs a lot and the occasional scratch-paper doodle, I don't have a specific tag for these unfortunately
About me and "best of" fics under the cut :)
*~*~*~*~*~*
Sashays through my bead curtain. Welcome to my Home
I draw and write a lot despite being employed full-time because it is my divine mandate or something idfk. My current subject of choice is Superman, especially Absolute Superman. I also really like spacesuits, they're a special interest of mine so you will see them in pretty much everything I make. I used to hate myself for it because it's such an odd interest of mine, but I've decided I'm too old and too tired to keep doing this to myself long-term. So now everything is spacesuits. Healing my inner child or whatever
*~*~*~*~*~*
And now for a... not necessarily "best of" fic list, but rather "fics I put extra time and care and thought into, and by that definition would be most proud of":
The Spaceship and His Boy. Absolute Superman, Teen and up rating, 8.7k words, Major Character Death. An alternate universe where Kal and Sol escape Krypton but never make it to Earth. It is unbelievably fluffy and self-indulgent despite the bleak premise. I even wrote a song for it!
Lightweight. Absolute Superman, Teen and up rating, 3k words. I think this one might be my best fic tbh and it's kind of a love letter to the place I'm from lol. AU where Kal gets that beer after all. And then a soda because he doesn't like the beer, and then on some guy's nerves because he doesn't like the soda. He cracks jokes and is awkward and it's fun.
*~*~*~*~*~*
And now for something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT (aka disgusting fics, but they meet the aforementioned criteria so they get a mention down here):
Symmetry. Superbat, Explicit rating, 3k words. I don't have a good explanation for this one other than that I was like "what if I made porn that thought it was high art?" Bruce milks Clark and it's symbolic, or something.
Let's Go to Space. Absolute Superman, Explicit rating, 6k words. No good explanation for this one either other than that the tags are an affront to god and I moved this to Anon because I didn't want it to be the first thing people saw on my AO3 🥴 Kal and Sol fuck, and it's, well. It is what it is. This one also wants to be high art.
^ I'm actually a huge softie and have a weakness for hurt/comfort lovey-dovey platonic bullshit but I really am drawn to writing shit that's like. Idk. Not that.
^ I don't take requests, or commissions, but I accept prompts and might even do something with them if they interest me and I have time/energy >:)))))
I'll be surprised if anyone has read this far bc I wouldn't even read this far. But if you did, I'm baking you chocolate chip cookies. It's the least I can do 👍I love you

words are hard today so ive not got anything deep but. really like how you draw muscles. you clearly know em all very well, it's cool
Awww thank you sweet Anon!! Hey, that actually means a lot. You would not believe how difficult drawing is for me even though I have like, a small background with it (does two semesters of figure drawing count...?) XD
I feel like everyone says this, but the Morpho books are quite good reference "pocket-sized" books for drawing different body types. They provide in-depth details and sketches highlighting the anatomical landmarks that help - literally - flesh out the body. Looking at comic books has also done wonders for my linework and hatching/shading I find, which can add to the liveliness of the drawing 😊
Apologies, you sent a very kind ask and I responded with some unsolicited advice! I haven't had coffee yet lol. Thank you for this 🥹🤍
OH and duh! Looking at the old masters. I like to go on the National Gallery of Art website (because it's free and not AI) and look at the art on there, this has been extremely helpful for both inspiration AND learning to appreciate the lines and curves and planes that can be found on bodies 😊

Even though by now we're in completely different fandoms, I am still checking on you from time to time. I understand and can relate to what you're going through at times. But please know: no matter the reception, both your art and writing are amazing. <3 Please don't give up on yourself! Noone can deny your talent, if they do - they are fucking liars.
Thank you so much, I promise I won't, especially now 🫂 I think I'm getting closer to realizing that I am doing this because it's my way of communicating/interacting with the world, rather than something I want to perfect (perfection is for dorks, anyway)
All my love to you, Anon, and thanks for sticking around even though our ships have passed by 🥺🤍

I love how soft you draw Kal it makes me so happy to see him in your style
Ahh thank you, my friend!! 🥹 I will admit he took a while to get the hang of drawing (I still have some insecurities that he bears too much of a resemblance to Nightwing, for example), but I think it's become a lot easier to draw him since I've finally come into my style ^^
I think my favorite piece with him is the one where he's in the giant fluffy spacesuit playing with bunny!Sol. Thank you for this lovely ask🤍🤍🤍🤍

And on that note (and please forgive the self-absorption) but I do feel like I've gotten better at my craft these past couple years. Writing, drawing, whatever it is, but for the purposes of this post I'll talk about writing. Nowadays I explain myself only when it's fun for me to explain. I don't explain when I feel obligated to, as in, I no longer subscribe to the mindset that "I need to spell out every thought behind this work and explore every nuance to avoid this being taken the wrong way." I think my works have become richer for it. A lot of what I say and write I don't see as literal, anyhow. It could be. It could also be facade, which I've decided to lean into more these days since I used to get frustrated at being misunderstood (a classic autistic experience), and have decided it's much more fun to play into it rather than fight it. Sometimes the facade in my writing is obvious and sometimes it isn't. I'm not going to leave a little footnote every time it isn't. The Elements of Style makes the contention that good prose does not condescend, and I am choosing to interpret that as "good prose does not hold the reader's hand; have faith in the reader's ability to read." I do have faith in the reader and so I will not spell things out. I write stories, not user manuals. And my stories are conversations, not dogma; I'm looking for listeners, not rule-followers.
been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which I call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter
Please keep making art. Please make it for yourself. Please don’t let everything become even more of the same flat general appeal nonsense that doesn’t seem to have anything to say

"In the name of the Sun's.... the Sun's divine light..."
It's the silence we should fear.
-> stuttering on the word "sun"... the agony on his face... he's talking about Sol here
-> The deeply palpable feeling that something is missing after Sol's death. You don't hear him anymore. Kal talks to him and no one answers. It's the silence we should fear.
