So the actual “movie” is about 45 minutes. The first 30 minutes is a rehash of the Kyo/Tohru story. I actually enjoyed this as it was cool seeing these anime moments on the big screen!

Now… let’s get into the Kyoko/Katsuya story. (Didn’t get any pictures of that sadly because there was a worker intensely patrolling the theater lol)

I’ll be honest, I know that the story in the prelude is wrong and gross, but it’s never really felt like that to me. I guess because I was in middle school when I first read the story myself, honestly didn’t care too much about those characters, and you can more easily project your interpretation of things onto the story when reading it in a manga form.

But seeing the story in a film format tonight was… Creepy af to say the least.

From the very first “Hello there” from Katsuya it was so uncomfortable 🤢

The story was really trying to say “He’s not a pedophile he’s just quirky and lonely” 💀

And there were literal families with children in the theater rip

I feel like the prelude just really made the awfulness of it come to life. Maybe that was a good thing for me.

I will say I really enjoyed J Michael Tatum voicing Katsuya in the dub though haha He has such an attractive voice 😭 There really were some emotional moments that got me. The conversation they have about having a baby I always loved in the manga and it was really nice in the anime too 🥲 Seeing baby Tohru was also the most adorable thing!!

Of course the BEST part was the very brief scene of Kyo and Tohru at the end. I really wish they had given us a bit more than what they did. I was grinning ear to ear during this part—I couldn’t help it!! The way they pumped each other up with encouragement 😭😭😭😭 the fact that they both were given gifts by coworkers for working so hard. Tohru doing her cute little circle around Kyo like my HEART YALLLLL ❤️❤️❤️❤️
