I was so happy when the ceasefire was announced, and I dreamed of starting a small shop to earn a living. But sadly, the war returned — even more violent and destructive than before 😭.Our area has now been declared a dangerous combat zone, and we lost our home — the only shelter we had 💔.

Worst of all, my father was seriously injured: he tragically lost one of his hands and an eye, and he is now completely unable to work or support our family 🥲😭.

La Comandanta Ramona (1959-2006)

Born in the highlands of Chiapas and tired of seeing her people subjugated, Ramona became an officer of the Zapatista National Liberation (EZLN), a revolutionary Indigenous autonomist organization in Mexico.

In 1994, she led a takeover of the city of San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas.

In 1996, she helped create the National Indigenous Congress in Mexico City.

By the time of her death, one third of the Zapatistas' military personal were women. In 1993, EZLN passed the Women's Revolutionary Law which enforced the basic rights of women to: have public and political participation, be free of violence, choose their own romantic partners, decide how many children to have, along with education and healthcare rights.

While there is still a lot to be done in indigenous Mexican communities, it did help lead a change in the way women regarded themselves - with more confidence and dignity.

Archaeology has traditionally had a fundamental bias against fabric. Fabrics are after all highly perishable, withering away within months or years, and only rarely leaving traces behind for those coming millennia later to find. Archaeologists—predominantly male—gave ancient ages names like “Iron” and “Bronze,” rather than “Pottery” or “Flax.” This implies that metal objects were the principal features of these times, when they are simply often the most visible and long-lasting remnants. Technologies using perishable materials, such as wood and textiles, may well have been more pivotal in the daily lives of the people who lived through them, but evidence of their existence has, for the most part, been absorbed back into the earth.

We are struggling in every way. Everything is incredibly expensive, and we can't afford basic necessities like food and drink.

We are constantly in need of assistance. Imagine, the cost per person exceeds $15 per day, and there are eight of us.

I am very ill, and I am also trying to care for my mother and provide her with medication.

Imagine that I am the sole provider for my family. Perhaps $100 isn't a large sum to you, but it's what I need to save my family. I need $50 daily to cover at least my family's most basic needs, in addition to my mother's medication. If I ever lose my voice, I will still be able to care for my family.

My family now lives in a tent with no stable shelter, my sister Jana has no school, and I have no steady job. My brother Kamal carries the burden of the entire family, working every day to secure just enough food, while I search for any work, no matter how difficult or dangerous, just to survive.

My mother, the beautiful dream we once cherished, wished for a calm and happy life for us, but the war tore us apart and shattered our hopes. As for Jana, my innocent sister, she lost her school, her books, and even her sense of hope, yet she still writes her dreams on small pieces of paper, hiding them in her torn clothes so they won’t get lost like everything else.

We are not asking for the impossible, only what keeps us alive with dignity and gives us a chance to rebuild our lives. Every donation, no matter how small, means so much to us. Your support will give us hope to keep going and try again. 🙏❤️
