If a man wants to, he will — and Wyatt did, every single time.

I loved how he pursued her respectfully. He didn’t cross boundaries or pressure her, but he made his feelings known. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that confidence paired with kindness was incredibly attractive. Dakota tried to fight it — she was hurt, guarded, and afraid he’d leave again — but their lifelong connection was impossible to deny. I especially loved that she eventually let herself have the love instead of pushing it away.

Wyatt as a father was another standout. The way he cared for his child, the patience and softness he showed, made him feel like the kind of man you’d want forever. Even when Dakota’s ex resurfaced, Wyatt didn’t resort to jealousy or violence. He trusted her. He knew her. That quiet confidence was refreshing and deeply attractive.

This was a slow burn done right — emotional, tender, and worth every page. I genuinely can’t think of a single thing I didn’t like.

I’m conflicted about this one, and I think that matters.

Beautiful Venom is the first in a trilogy, and it’s dark — much darker than I expected. This book deals with heavy themes like sexual assault, abuse, violence, and psychological manipulation, some of it very early on. I wish there had been a clear trigger warning page going in.

The story follows Kane Davenport, a cold, controlled college hockey captain tied to a secret society, and Dalilah, a survivor who grew up in foster care and on the streets. Her only real family is her best friend Violet, who is left in a coma after a brutal attack. Dalilah’s goal is simple but dangerous: find out who did it, no matter the cost.

Dalilah is relentless. Kane is predatory, calculating, and terrifying in the way only power and control can be. Their dynamic walks a razor-thin line between obsession and attraction, danger and desire. There were moments that were hard to read — the brutality, the psychological games, the way Kane spoke to and treated Dalilah — and I won’t pretend otherwise.

And yet… there’s something compelling here. The tension. The manipulation. The way Dalilah finds the cracks in Kane’s armor and pushes herself into them. I do tend to like stories where a man who’s never known love is undone by it, but this one never lets you forget the cost.

Soul Searcher is the first book in a series (with book two coming later this year), and I genuinely loved it. This story felt gentle and grounded, even with its supernatural elements — emotional without being overwhelming, and romantic without rushing anything.

Collins is one half of a set of twins, born and raised in Sweetwater Peak. She’s a photographer — but not an ordinary one. Collins can see and speak with the dead, and when she takes photos, she captures more than what the eye can see. Every image holds ghosts, memories, and moments she’s afraid of losing. When she loses the ability to hear the voices, her photography stalls too — because without them, she no longer knows what she’s trying to preserve.

So she goes home.

Sweetwater feels alive on the page — from her family’s antique shop to the hidden corners of town Collins quietly shares with Brady Cooper, an upholsterer who recently moved there after ending an engagement that felt more like obligation than love. Brady is introverted, gentle, and observant. From the start, he doesn’t fully understand Collins — especially when she talks to herself — but he never dismisses her either. Instead, he watches. He listens. And slowly, he lets her show him the version of Sweetwater most people never see.

This is a true slow burn. More than halfway through the book passes before anything more than kissing happens — and honestly, it worked beautifully. The connection Collins and Brady build feels intentional and meaningful. Collins is closed off by nature, someone who doesn’t confide easily, someone her sister describes as “the pistachio in every bag that’s impossible to crack.” And yet, with Brady, she doesn’t push her feelings away. She doesn’t convince herself she’s unworthy or talk herself out of happiness. She lets herself want him. She lets herself imagine a future. And that choice felt refreshing and real.

Brady meets her with the same openness. After a relationship built on convenience, he recognizes what this is — and he waits. He makes sure Collins wants him, wants this. No games. No unnecessary distance. Just two people choosing something good when it finally shows up.

I also loved how human Brady felt — the way he stumbles over his words around Collins, the way he fumbles and softens and becomes completely undone by her. And without spoiling the ending, the lengths he goes to — even without fully understanding why — prove one simple truth: if a man wants to, he will.

I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this book.

Burning Daylight by Emily McIntire is a standalone I really liked, even if I didn’t fully love it. It’s emotional, dramatic, and layered — sometimes to its own detriment — but the core romance kept me invested.

Roman Montgomery is a brooding artist shaped by abandonment, secrets, and survival. Juliette Calloway comes from a silver-spoon family with crushing expectations and a history she never fully understood. They’re pulled together by chance run-ins — first when Roman saves Juliette from falling off a cliff, and later through art and words — long before they know who the other truly is, or how deep their families’ feud runs.

When Juliette finally learns who Roman is, she’s shaken — but the attraction is undeniable. She knows she should walk away, but she can’t. His possessiveness, his certainty, the way he wants her without hesitation completely undoes her. Roman never hides his feelings; he paints Juliette into everything.

Juliette, meanwhile, writes the way so many of us do — when we’re falling in love or trying to survive the ache of it. She puts the words on paper she can’t say out loud, the feelings meant for someone who might never hear them. “It seems I must always write you letters I cannot send.” That line stayed with me because it’s exactly how she writes — and how I do too. When words fail, Roman paints. When speaking feels impossible, Juliette writes. And I understood both.

Their relationship was one of the book’s strongest points. Despite betrayals, manipulation, and generations of family history pressing in around them, nothing truly separates them. Their bond holds steady even when everything else feels unstable.

That said, this book had a lot going on. Between secret identities, caretakers with false names, lawyers plotting to steal empires, and layered family trauma, it was sometimes hard to keep track. For a 507-page novel, it felt overly dense — not bad, just heavy.

Still, Roman as a character worked beautifully for me. I loved that he wasn’t afraid of his emotions and knew what he felt without apology. The final revelations — that his father wasn’t entirely the villain he believed, while his mother was far worse — added a bittersweet complexity to the ending.

Mile High by Liz Tomforde is a sports romance with great chemistry, strong banter, and a lot happening. Stevie “Vee” is a flight attendant who spends her free time volunteering at a senior dog shelter and thrifting outfits that feel authentically her. Evan “Zee” Zanders is a 6'5" Chicago Raptors hockey player — tattooed, rough on the ice, and known for his player reputation.

Because the team signs privately that season, Stevie ends up being Zee’s flight attendant the entire time. There’s a strict no-fraternizing rule, but Stevie’s total indifference to Zee’s bad-boy charm is exactly what pulls him in. The banter between them is playful, flirty, and easily one of the best parts of the book.

Zee’s hidden soft side really worked for me — his found family with his best friend Maddison, Maddison’s wife Logan, and their daughter Ella added depth to his character. I also loved the way he treated Stevie’s body with complete obsession and reverence, especially as someone who struggles with self-confidence. He made her feel wanted in a way that felt genuine and healing.

The secrecy of their relationship brought some of the best tension: sneaking kisses on planes, back-alley goodbyes, and private moments that felt intimate and hot. Zee adopting a senior dog from Stevie’s shelter was another standout moment — not as a grand gesture, but as quiet character growth.

Where it lost me slightly was the amount of story packed in. Between family issues, public fallout, and internal struggles, it sometimes felt like too much at once. Still, the emotional payoff landed, and Zee ultimately choosing Stevie felt earned.

Need Me by Tessa Bailey is the second book in the Broke and Beautiful series, but it reads easily as a standalone — and honestly? It had me from the very beginning. This book hit something deeply personal for me: a shared love of writing, poetry, and literature that connects the two main characters in a way that feels intimate, intellectual, and electric.

Ben Dawson is a literature professor with emotional baggage, moral convictions, and a deep appreciation for the written word. Honey is his student — premed, yes, but with a mind that sings on the page. The way she approaches her English assignments, twisting language into something uniquely hers, made it impossible not to fall a little bit in love with her. I connected with both of them immediately, especially through their shared reverence for words and storytelling.

Though I usually love a long, teasing slow burn, this one wastes no time — and somehow still feels earned. Within the first thirty pages, the chemistry is undeniable, and I was absolutely pulsating with every word. Honey is over the moon for Ben almost instantly, and then — in one of my favorite narrative choices — the very next chapter reveals that Ben is just as affected… even though he doesn’t yet know her name, her face, or who she is at all. One essay. That’s all it took. Her words alone were enough to completely undo him.

From there, the tension only escalates. Every interaction had me hooked — every glance, every stolen moment, every internal battle. The professor/student dynamic hits different in this novel, not just because it’s taboo, but because of how deeply Ben resists it. His past — particularly growing up with a famous football player father who betrayed his mother with someone much younger — leaves him with a strong aversion to dishonesty, power imbalance, and inappropriate relationships. And you feel that conflict in every choice he makes.

Ben fights his attraction fiercely. Honey, despite how deeply she feels, tries to put space between them too — not wanting to be collateral damage in his back-and-forth decisions. But no matter how hard they try, neither of them can deny the red string tying them together. Their pull toward each other feels inevitable, magnetic, and utterly consuming.

This is a shorter book — just 237 pages — but it doesn’t feel lacking in any way. It’s tight, intense, and emotionally satisfying. And yes, it’s hot and spicy, reimagining the professor/student fantasy so many of us have had at least once, while still grounding it in emotional connection and restraint.

The connection between Ben and Honey is rooted in intellect and emotion, not just attraction. Their shared love for literature gives their bond depth, and Ben’s internal struggle adds real stakes. The pacing is fast without feeling rushed, and the chemistry is off-the-charts from the start.

Endless Anger is exactly what the title promises: a long, simmering slow burn rooted in history, distance, and emotions that never quite fade. Sav R. Miller takes us through different stages of Lucy and Asher’s lives — from their teenage years at thirteen all the way into adulthood — and watching the gradual shift in their relationship was both compelling and frustrating in equal measure.

Lucy immediately stood out to me. Her passion for the environment, her drive to make a difference, and the way she holds onto her values even when things get messy made her incredibly easy to root for. She reminds me so much of her mother, especially in the way her relationship with Asher mirrors her parents’ love story. Even when Lucy tried to deny it — tried to convince herself that she and Asher weren’t inevitable — deep down, she always knew. And that quiet knowing followed her through every stage of her life.

Asher, on the other hand, is intense. Protective. Possessive. The kind of man who would burn the world down for the woman he loves — and honestly, that part worked for me. I loved how deeply Lucy was etched into him, especially symbolized by the tattoo he gets for her. That felt intimate, permanent, and very Asher. His devotion to Lucy, even when they’re apart, even when he’s pushing her away, is undeniable.

That said, the constant fighting between them was hard to ignore. Asher’s anger is ever-present — tied to his family history, his violent tendencies, and his complete lack of communication — but it never truly evolves. There wasn’t a clear moment where his anger softened or resolved; instead, it felt like he simply came to terms with it once Lucy finally understood how deeply he felt about her. I wanted more growth there, more accountability, more change.

One thing that genuinely surprised me was learning that Asher was a virgin. Even though he insists he never wanted anyone else but Lucy, it still caught me off guard — not in a bad way, just unexpectedly tender for someone who carries so much rage and intensity.

The slow burn felt earned, especially with the years-long timeline and emotional distance between Lucy and Asher. Lucy’s inner conflict, her connection to her family, and the inevitability of her bond with Asher gave the story emotional weight. Reckless had me hooked from start to finish. Theo Silva, a rugged bull rider with a heart of gold, is my absolute favorite. There’s something about a cowboy who’s rough around the edges but willing to change for the one he loves that gets me every time. Theo’s past may be colorful, but his devotion to Winter and his desire to be the man she needs made me swoon endlessly. He spends so much of the novel reassuring Winter that he wants nothing else in life but her — and that unwavering belief in her, even when she struggles to believe anyone could really want her, is just chef’s kiss.

While I adore slow burns that simmer and tease, this book also has moments that jump straight into the hot and steamy stuff. Chapter 36 in particular left me feeling very warm — the buildup from their hinted night together to the full reveal was absolutely worth the wait. And the stakes get even higher: Winter ends up pregnant after their first night together, and Theo doesn’t learn until nine months later. When he does, all he wants is to be there for Winter and their daughter, Vivi, proving just how devoted and loving he is. Slowly, they work through everything together, and Winter falls for him completely — every word, every gesture, every attention-grabbing moment — and I couldn’t get enough.

Why It Worked

Theo and Winter’s connection felt real and earned. The emotional tension, the moments of doubt and reassurance, and the slow, careful buildup to trust and intimacy made their romance feel incredibly genuine. What really got me is how the men in this series treat their women: flirty, protective, appreciative, and absolutely respectful. They’re equals, not fragile damsels, and that makes the romance feel grounded and satisfying.

I’m obsessed with this series — the characters, the romance, the tension, the heat, and all of it. I’ve reread each book at least once, and I know I’ll be coming back to them again and again.
