Wake up, donât panic | Jacket & Haruhi
âYou are in, then. Welcome!â Haruhi smiled. Jacket would make a fine bodyguard. But she wouldnât just let anyone in without knowing a bit more about them. If companies screened you to look for something fishy, then her Brigade ought to do so too to keep a semblance of professionalism.
Haruhi couldnât put into words how happy she was to have someone willingly join her adventures, and despite the depressing context into which she was forced, she had to admit that the numerous surprising and interesting characters lifted her spirits considerably.
âSo, Jacket, tell me more about yourself. For example, you can start by telling me what you do for a living, or your hobbies,â she said, almost overwhelmed by enthusiasm.Â
Jacket had expected her to question his background in some way due to how openly suspicious he looked and had already been mulling over possible excuses he could use. He would not tell this girl anything about who he really is, despite not having any reason to hide it. In a place as unknown as this it was best to not trust anyone too much, so he decided to falsify his own background to see if he really could trust Haruhi. He fiddled with his tape recorder once again and pressed play.
âSecurity guard.â Unlike most of the tapes he had played up until that point, this one was straight to the point. His tapes usually didnât have very specific questions, but sometimes they were just what he needed. The answer he gave Haruhi wasnât that far from the truth in reality. A security guard and an ex-military special operative werenât that different from each other in some contexts.Â
