Social Journalism: The Conversation

It has been five months since marijuana was legalized for recreational use to any citizen over 21 years of age in Colorado, and judging from the results, it may be time for the country to go green.

What is your ethnicity?

"I am Indian"

What do you enjoy most about Indians?

"The culture. It is all about family in India, which I love."

What do you not like about your culture?

"I wish we were a little more open minded. No one seems to stray on to something different."

What do you miss most from India?

"Well besides my family, the food. It's really organic and chemical free."

Where do you live now?

"I live in New Jersey."

Do you enjoy New Jersey more than New York?

"Oh no, I'm never in Jersey for fun."

So you're a graduate student in pharmacy, do you enjoy studying?

"I do actually. I like learning how certain chemicals can bond together to create something that can possibly help or cure a disease. But I don't like to study for no reason."

What made you choose pharmacy?

"My parents. My father was a pharmacist and he always planned for me to become one after him."

Did your father have that plan for anyone else in your family?

"Yes, my brother is also in pharmacy. Only my sister is different and she went into nursing."

Do you regret doing what you're father has told you to do?

"Not really. I mean, I don't really care. A job is a job and luckily I kind of like mine."

What made you come to Long Island University Brooklyn?

"I had a lot of options, but the people at other universities in New York are typically stuck up and I didn't want to be around those kind of people all day. At LIU I felt most comfortable.".

What do you plan to do in your future of Pharmacy?

'Well be a pharmacist. Hopefully at a drug store. But I would like to be one of the few who actually get to make medicine."

Final Project

Facebook is one of the largest Social Media Platforms ever created, thus making it still relevant and used by millions of people world wide to connect to each other. However, compared to other media platforms, it can either lack or gain some user qualities.

Facebook compared to Foursquare is very different. Foursquare is an app designed to locate a person or persons at certain locations and connect them with friends. Foursquare is a fast, easy way to tel your friends where you are and what you're doing without actually having to type or explain, where as in Facebook it is not as fast and easy.

Facebook and Tumblr are also different animals. Tumblr is a social media platform with a layout of a blog. On Tumblr, you can "re-blog" other bloggers photos, videos, memes, gifs,or quotes at the click of a button. You can also upload anything you want and post it on your profile. One Unique aspect to Tumblr is its messaging feature. You can choose to be anonymous or to use your actual username.

Pinterest and Facebook have both in my opinion the most in common. Pinterest "pins" up certain things you like on your home page, just like on Facebook. Also like Facebook, Pinterest picks and organizes things you love in order relevant to what you have done or looked at recently which is similar to how Facebook is now with friends or specific likes.

Like most people in my generation, I get all the information I need to know about the word through the internet. The Media Platform that I use the most to receive this news is Twitter. I follow the Huffington Post, New York Times, CNN, and Dallas Morning News on Twitter. The great thing about Twitter is that you have a limited number of words you can say, or character count. This way, News organizations have to make their story sound interesting or else most people will not look further into their features

As of this year, I have come to value the Huffington Post as my main source of information. I enjoy Post's structure on certain breaking news coverage. Post, at least when I am reading, doesn't make me feel like I need to find other articles from other news organizations to get the entire in depth story. 

The only other News Organization that can compare, is the New York Times. Although the its the most popular newspaper in the world, The New York Times' articles make me feel like I am reading something that has a valued source. I know that I can trust the New York Times to be correct. This is a trait that all Media websites should inherit in order to become more popular,
