I feel like certain companies are slowly trying to make using their services slightly more inconvenient for the sake of engagement. Like with Amazon changing their shipping emails to display a category instead of the items shipped, or LinkedIn pushing their AI job search which feels much less convenient to use than the way it originally was. I wouldn't be surprised if it was to entice people to spend more time on the website, but it does feel more and more like the priority is less on the consumer and ease of use and more on the company and their analytics or whatever the hell they're trying to get our of this

#I forget what exactly I saw this on #but more and more I think about this comment I saw a few months ago #That said that about a decade ago technology was still seen as something helpful #something that was meant to make our lives easier. something meant to be positive #but now it feels like something sinister #and you can see that reflected in a lot of media regarding tech and robots and AI from the past few years #But yeah it def feels like new tech and existing applications are being made to benefit corporations more and more #something something capitalism ruins everything

My birthday was today. The past year was kinda a pain in the ass, but I'm hoping that this next year is much better now that I'm going to try and stop waiting for a better job or better pay to do things. I feel kinda like I've just spent the past year waiting and waiting for something that's never going to come and just wasting time, so I want to try my best to not do that any more

#tbh it's not just the past year but the majority of my twenties that I've felt this way #I'm waiting until quarantine is over. Then until I get a full time job. Then until I move out. Then until I get a new job + more pay #Makes me feel like life is passing me by #This problem also shows up in little things. Like waiting until I have a bigger apartment that I know I'm staying in to start decorating #But uh. I've been looking for a new job for over half a year now and it's not happening #so I can't keep sitting around and waiting for a better opportunity #2 years until I'm 30 and I hope my 30s are better than my 20s #not that my 20s were especially terrible. But I hope this looming sense of uncertainty and fear of instability will be gone #or at least not be as bad as it has been

There's an attitude I've been seeing more and more of where having any kind of artistic opinion that isn't praise is seen as some kind of faux pas designed to yuck people's yum or whatever, and while I understand the kneejerk response behind it I do have to wonder like. How sustainable do you think it is to foster an environment where even the most casual criticism is met with hoards of defensive with Whoa Mama Mia Cunt Let People Enjoy Things style comments

OK so yes feedback is necessary specifically in art but I have seen people just be full on mean or unnecessarily harsh. There's creative criticism and then there's just being a dick for the sake of it.

Okay. And I'm saying people are allowed to, when they want to, on their blogs, be a dick about things for the sake of it if they feel like doing it. I'm wildly skeptical of the idea that constructive critique is the only kind of feedback one is "allowed" to make in their own siloed corner of the internet, or that insistence on this will somehow create a healthier space for expressing opinions.

Once again. I can understand the kneejerk impulse here, I do. It sucks to imagine, say, a creator scrolling online coming across some needlessly vitriolic post about something they worked on. But anyone is allowed to go "That's dickish" and move on, or people can engage with "I think this is oversimplified blah blah" if they want to but at the end of the day it isn't some kind of crime against the hobby or a fandom or even a singular person if someone just shoots off "This sucked I wasted my night" in their own accounts.

Like. A lot of people are trending towards thinking I'm talking about the importance of constructive criticism and like, sure, I think that is probably a more interesting avenue of analyzing something's flaws, but once again if you're not like, addressing an artist or interested in doing a deep dive that doesn't mean you're Not Allowed to be flippant or quick to judge. It's kind of startling how many times I've seen someone be like, "I can't stand this album" on their blogs, untagged, had that shit shared, only for it to come across someone's feed and for them to respond with "Why? What's wrong with it? People are allowed to like it, why are you being so negative, why are you tearing people down for no reason, this isn't even real critique," as though the intention in the first place ever was or ought to have been substantive critique in the first place.

It's difficult to articulate my feelings on this, but I do increasingly feel that the insistence upon there being a correct form of disliking something that precludes the possibility of making anyone feel insecure or hurt because they like it is significantly more stultifying than an atmosphere where people can shoot off "Fuck this" and be blocked or ignored for it

#I've been calling this sort of backlash 'toxic positivity' for a while now #It really has gotten to the point where any kind of negativity is looked down on #Unless it's a largely disliked piece of media and then it's 'okay' to shit on it openly without needing to explain yourself #And over the years more and more people have had to start adding disclaimers to their criticisms #like saying 'I'm not saying this is totally awful or that I hate this #etc.'#And then there's an idea that if a project is small enough then you're not allowed to dislike it because it's someone's darling #and they put a lot of effort into it. Therefor it's absolved or criticism unlike larger projects

#The thing I hate about job searching is that it just makes me a more pessimistic person and that's a terrible way to be all the time #I feel like I have to always assume the worst in order to protect myself #because these companies obviously don't give a fuck #It's been a month since my 2nd interview with this one company and I've heard nothing #even to my follow up email almost 2 weeks ago #but at the same time I have to smile and take their shit because I don't have another choice #If I were to scold them for it then I'm the one in the wrong #If they were to get back to me with good news then I'd need to take it because I need benefits which I don't have with my current job #rather than being able to tell them no and lay into them about their lack of communication #At this point I don't even think ghosting candidates is considered unprofessional anymore with how many companies do it #Now it's just standard #Between this and the state of the world I feel like I'm always angry and cynical and sad #like I can't trust anyone ever. And that's awful #I don't want to be like that anymore but I don't know how I could change it #Because if I give a little bit of trust or a little bit of hope to things outside my little bubble it will inevitably backfire #so I don't know what to do #I just don't want to feel helpless anymore

Got an interview scheduled today and no one showed up at all, then when I send a follow up it turns out that the guy was OOO :))))) mfer you scheduled it for today!!

My friend got me into Dragon's Dogma and I love my wet noodle Arisen. Saddest, most pathetic looking woman who is now tasked with killing a dragon of all things. She's having an awful time

I've also decided that she romanced Madeline because I find Madeline funny but also my Arisen is a sucked who would get swindled by her so easily so of course they have to get involved somehow
