let the ocean take me

“oh- i’m sorry about that. just let me move some of this,” he responded, nervous and speaking way too fast he hurried to move his belongings closer to himself. when blake had arrived at the coffee shop, he’d been alone, and he’d taken over a rather large table in order to spread out his work. but as the need for space increased, he relinquished some of his table. “there you go! it’s all yours!” 

“oh, well it’s a movie. it’s about one night where all bets are off in society. you can commit crime and no one will care. it’s a horror movie and focuses on like one thing but really, you could do so much.” 

“uh – alright then, flounder. what’re you doing in the ocean?” tommy raised a brow, taking a glass and some ice before pouring some fruit cider in. “i’ll start you off easy, first timers drink this kinda thing.”

“Living there? My people are from the ocean. You hear of Atlantis? Well that’s home.” Soa asks as he watches the other boy pour the cider in. “I appreciate that a lot, thank you.”

“i’m a simple man. i just like an oj with whatever liquor i can find.” he shrugs, taking a sip from his own cola. “you fresh outta the womb or something?”

“The deep ocean actually.” Soa admits as he pushes his fingers through his hair for a moment. “Uh, surprise me.”

“if you’re not gonna buy any drinks, you better tip me.” he huffed, leaning against the bar. “this is gonna shock you, but i ain’t getting paid to stand ere and look pretty.”

“Can you recommend me something? I’m new to the whole DRINKING experience.”

“But seriously, what would you do if the Purge was real?”

“Living all alone, well, I’ve had my share of that.”

“it’s not just our local cinema,” hugo explained, shrugging. “it’s all cinemas.” at least, all cinemas he’d been to. he didn’t know of any that just had closed captioned screenings at reasonable times. happy to move on though, the smaller of the two opened his mouth to giggle. “roller skates are shoes with little wheels. you skate around. it’s great, i swear.”

“i’d love to go to the movies, but i don’t think they play movies with closed captions on weekends. they play them mostly during the week, which is ridiculous. they’ve got… these other devices, but they suck. but–!” hugo hated that he had to put a damper on these sorts of things. he loved going on dates with soa, but movies were, for the most part, off the table unless they watched them at home. “how about roller skating? have you done that, yet?”

“expert is one way to put it, though others usually prefer to describe me as overzealous and a pain in the ass..”

wrapping his short arms around soa’s neck and settling in his lap, the smaller of the two huffed a little, unsure what to do with the affection he was receiving (though very pleased with it). pressing his lips to the other’s cheek and giggling, cupping his own cheeks, hugo giggled. “no. i think you’re just very nice. which i appreciate. be nice as much as you like.”

“it’s just… it’s a lot to ask.” hugo said simply, shrugging a little. it was a little embarrassing to admit just how touched he was – but he was just as touched all the same. leaning up to kiss soa back softly, he smiled against the other’s mouth, quietly amazed that he’d gotten so lucky to wind up with somebody so kind. “i wouldn’t push it if you didn’t want to learn. it’s… thank you. i won’t go on about it, but… thanks.”

Nadir considers his roommates words for a few moments, letting out a small, soft sigh. He doesn’t exactly feel like being around - well, anyone right now, but he can feel a little bit of guilt creeping in at knowing he’s making Soa worry this way. Besides - he’s not a child anymore, he can’t hide away forever.

“I’m not really hungry. I’ve been snacking.” He calls out in response, pushing himself up in bed a little and combing his fingers through his hair in an attempt to try and tame it a little. “You can come in if you want.”

Soa slowly pushes the door open, if anything just to make sure that his roommate was alright. He will try not to bother him too much, but he moves into the bedroom quietly.

cupping his cheeks and melting a little, hugo giggled softly. the compliment was a little out of nowhere – though soa was lovely, the amount of compliments he seemed to dole out, and how sweet they were, was more than a little flustering. not that it was a bad thing, of course – he’d take these compliments gladly whenever soa gave them.

“i like to, though. i don’t expect you to. i don’t expect anybody to. it’s really nice that you want to, it means a lot to me.”

Soa wouldn’t do this for just anyone, feeling that Hugo deserves it. He was always sweet for him, not wanting him to ever see the more rough side to him — usually saved for a battle. He doesn’t see that side needing to come out up here though.

There’s a downside to sharing his apartment. As much as it’s nice to have company, it means that extended periods of time spent in isolation in his bedroom seems to attract attention. He doesn’t blame Soa for it of course - he doesn’t know what happened, and he doesn’t know what could be so terrible that Nadir is two steps away from barricading himself in his bedroom. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that, when he hears a knock on the door, he’s ready for the conversation coming. [ @soamarius ]

“What is it?” He calls out, still settled comfortably in bed in his pyjamas with no real intention of moving. It’s not necessarily an invitation to come in, but not exactly shooing him away either.

Soa was worried about his roommate as he hasn’t seen Nadir in a while. He knocked on the door a few times, but despite getting an answer he wasn’t going to let himself in. It would be rude wouldn’t it? He doesn’t want Nadir to feel like he can’t come out though. 

languages were hard to learn, and the older you got, the harder it was – as a result, hugo was wildly impressed with soa’s attempt to learn the language. he was a certified genius, but even he knew that languages were a big ask. “i’d certainly hope so!” he giggled, smiling softly. “the grammar can be difficult, too. but you’re doing well.”

leaning back against the headboard of his bed, hugo tilted his head. “it’s nice that you’re learning. thank you.”

Soa already knew two languages in Atlantean and then English — so he doesn’t envision learning sign language to be any harder than figuring out English. He was being patient with it, knowing that it’s going to take a lot of work. “You’re cuter too.” He says while tilting his head, eyes looking over Hugo. “Thank you, it’s worth it for you.”
