Like always, posting the prompts early, so people can have time to prepare (do not call out the mod on the fact that he has barely caught up with the may prompts, that's just rude /lh)

“Do you trust me?” asked Sam, smiling ever so softly. 

For the last two weeks, Sam had been non-stop on the phone with a person who had been doing cold-capping, while also carefully re-reading his notes and re-watching the videos he’d been sent. All of it, just to help Colby to make all of this just a little manageable. 

Colby was feeling like he’d been through hell and back, the first session of chemotherapy leaving him drained. It was apparently normal — nothing to worry about, according to the doctors, but it still didn’t make him feel any better. His stomach was still knotting itself into tight knots, and he had stopped counting the amount of times he’d thrown up that day. 

He was beyond stressed, in case anyone was wondering — he doubted there was a word that even described the amounts of stress he was in. But despite it all, here Sam was, trying his hardest to not anything get to him. 

People liked to forget just how fucking strong Sam, even when fear threatened to consume him.

Colby had a huge problem. No, seriously, he wasn’t being overdramatic, or anything like that — this was actually fucking serious, and he meant it. 

Just today alone, he caught himself staring at Sam’s lips nineteen times. Nineteen! Nine and ten! Yes, he’d been counting, but that was only because he wanted to say if the number was getting any lower, but no, it was actually getting worse and worse. 

Last time he checked, friends usually didn’t look at each other’s lips for so many times, or even for such a long time. Oh, and do not get him started on the amount of times he’d imagined kissing Sam just today. 

His mom would probably say that he was being indecent. Colby had to agree. 

“Colby?” 

He finally tore his eyes from Sam’s lips, blinking slowly. Oh, his best friend was talking to him, and he was doing this like a creep. 

“Yeah?” asked Colby, clearing his throat. 

Sam tilted his head to the side. “What were you thinking about?” 

You don’t wanna know.

Sam had never been one for pet names. Well, no, let him rephrase it — he didn’t exactly like getting called pet names. For some reason, it’d always made him smile awkwardly, hoping the other side was going to get the hint and not do it again. He did have a name for a reason, after all. 

But his life has been changing in ways he could barely comprehend these days. First of all, he would’ve ever expected for him to start dating Colby? Well, apparently, everyone on the internet, but that was beside the point. And one thing about his best friend (boyfriend, but also best friend) was that he loved using pet names — he knew that little fact about the other man whenever they talked about previous relationships. 

So, it shouldn’t have been that surprising when it happened. 

“Honey? Did you see—” Colby froze in the middle of step, blinking slowly. “I’m… so sorry.”

Sam stared at Colby for a long moment, repeating the word in his brain over and over again, before he finally smiled — actually smiled. “Yeah? What are you looking for?” 

Maybe the problem weren’t the pet names, maybe it was the fact that it wasn’t Colby who was saying them until that very moment.
