This is lovely and also itching at me in relation to the present "AI" age, if only somewhat tangentially and perhaps because the current wave of AI has become such an invasive, unwelcome, and uninvited part of all of our lives.
We have all these techboi grifters crowing about "AGI in X years" where X is a number much, much smaller than 20, 30, 50, 100, 1,000.
Never mind that humans can't collectively agree what "AGI" even means, what intelligence even means. Never mind that we still lack a complete understanding of our own biology, our bodies and our brains especially. Never mind that we can't clearly define what consciousness even is or looks like, never mind that we don't even have an answer for whether any given organism is "conscious." Never mind that the human experience is something completely divorced from reams and reams of text and terabyte after terabyte of video and any other experience we are presently capable of feeding into a computer. I mean, certainly mind all of that, but let's set that aside for a moment and consider...
AGI... in less than 20 years from now. Five years, or two or three by some, uh... "estimates" (using that term generously because it does imply some basis in data and reality, which is not something I'm noticing here.)
A computer program that speaks, thinks, and acts like a real adult human, emerging fully formed from some data center in the woods somewhere.
My bois. My greedy, grimy, heartless, soulless little tech twinks. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
Your "intelligence" is going to need a fucking childhood.
You are going to have to raise your AI. Like a baby. Parents, love, nurturing, milestones. Family, holidays, culture. All of that shit. You want it to think and act like a human, you are going to need to treat it like an actual human. You're going to need to give it hands so it can touch your mouth, a mouth of its own so it can speak.
Either that or you are going to need to figure out a way to copy and paste an existing adult human brain directly into the computer, a la qntm's MMAcevedo.
Did I mention that we still don't understand how the human brain works?
This is how I know all the AGI claims are bullshit.
They think they can create life because they have no understanding of what life even is.
It's an even greater tragedy than Frankenstein's Viktor, if you ask me. At least that guy was capable of what he set out to do. At least he was in it for Science and Personal Fulfillment, not A Huge Pile of Money. At least he wasn't ruining the entire planet for the rest of humanity in the process.
Instead we get to watch these idiots set the world on fire in pursuit of Nothing.
